I know what you mean. I started off as Felix the Cat - a cartoon character - then I forgot all my super hero abilities and became a man in a fursona suit with a rocket up his arse. I now do progressive commercials for my career. Something that gets to me is how Sonic Team and DIMPS think the chubbier look is aesthetic. It is not. Sonic was chubby so you could see detail of his sprite in 2D, and to compliment his form for when he rolled into a ball. This is why Advance and Rush Sonic look so damn retarded and why 'Classic Sonic` can be jarring in 3D at times. It always perplexes me how Sonic game designers do not understand this fundamental design choice that is totally functional in purpose.
Modern exaggeration hate aside (because he can't totally roll into a ball now and doesn't know even more tricks), you are right, Moderns more leaner body, makes the head, for me, too big in 2-D perspective, and seeing Generations mods you can see that the classic design looses some of his best details like running, in 3D, using the different designs in the most correct environment would be the perfect ideal, canon be damned. We all already heard the "Toon Link" thing... This kind of situation young/old is good for the situation that was Generations and Comics, and that's it, limiting a game with plot decisions it's stupid. And speaking of the devil, Zelda, do we really give a crap about timelines? Yes maybe a little for the lore, but would you want the games be built around it? hell no. They don't give a crap how Angel Island looks or how can Knuckles carry a giant gem with him, this can't be something that limit the choice of the design.
Now available for Android devices. http://blogs.sega.com/2012/01/25/sonic-4-episode-I-has-arrived-for-android/ "Continue where the Sonic CD saga left off!" oh gosh here comes that again
Sonic 4 Episode 1 is out NOW for Android Devices For £2.56 in the UK. It's the same as the iPhone Version I think due to the description on the Android Market: Edit: I keep getting ninja'd :v:
This is weird, can anyone sacrifice themselves and buy the android version? :v: For whatever reason the Sonic model in its Android Market site is much more detailed than the iPhone/WP7 Sonic model https://lh3.ggpht.com/hT-IFAObTW94Wzj2HWOzqBeRduGpE5WRoIZa3QQ3GV2uFEOp6pSLmVfTcyVZpCKNH4Q=h230 Android http://www.touchmyapps.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/reviews-sonic-4-ep-1-4.jpg iPhone/Touch/WP7 (Can't embed images )
I bought it, but I'm at work and waiting for extra files to download. If this takes as long as Sonic CD's extra files though, you guys will have it cracked before I have a chance to kill even one pesky Bubbles.
Apparently the Android version has both the iPad models/textures and the Console's world map, but with the iOS levels. Thanks to NoNameAtAll. *EDIT* Ok, this is hilarious First of all, the game doesn't give a shit about the resolution, the 3D is displayed at whatever resolution you are running at while the HUD elements are scaled and stretched if your aspect ratio is not 16:9. Second of all, I'm using an android device without multitouch, but it's rooted so with an app I can just remap one of the hardware keys to another key, I remapped Menu to Dpad Center thinking the game would be Xperia Play Optimized and detect that keymap as a jump button, which it did, but that's not the problem... The problem is that no matter what I do the game will just not let me jump and run at the same time, and this being S4 EP1 it means that I literally have to stop dead whenever I want to jump.
Mine's stuck on a white screen. Tried to restart it and it has to download everything again. What's with SEGA and the Android market?
I tried it, it sucks, I'm getting a refund. On my Samsung Galaxy S 4G it: - Is stretched out and ugly - Has ugly, grainy jpeg-looking HUD items - Has a choppy framerate - Lowers the pitch of sound effects and even the "SEGA!" call
The Android version uses mp3s to play music. So the first thing I did? Gutted the Casino Street Zone 2 music and replaced it with... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOAaFNLdzT8 Now THIS is pod racing!
I may have to do that. This stupid thing just won't open. It finishes its downloads and says "unpacking" before freezing on a white screen. I'm gonna try one more time when I get home from work. Maybe keeping an eye on it will help, I dunno. I didn't try the mobile version the first time around and figured, I'd give it a shot (I'm among the five who found the console version...decent enough), but it's just not worth it if I can't even open this shit.
I have been noticing that it's been having problems running on some phones and keeps crashing. I thought it was because it was an... "out of marketplace" variety. Guess it's a pretty half-assed port. I'm running it decently on my X10, yet people with better phones than mine are crashing on boot or install.
Final note on the Classic-Modern evolution discussion, it's a graphical effect for our fun in Generations. It's like when Deadpool travels back in time to the beginning of the Fantastic Four and everything is drawn in a Kirby-esque way. It's a continuity joke, for us to go "haha, so the Sonic from the 90's is an indeterminate amount of time younger than the one from the 2000's!"
It won't even download the data files on my Advent Vega tablet, it just crashes as soon as it tries to start. Anyone else with an Android tablet (ie not a phone) run into issues?
Works fine on my tablet, though it is running the dedicated tablet OS version (unlike yours, based on a quick Googlin').
Played this for the first time in a while yesterday, I forgot how bad the physics were. Seriously, just change them to the Generations physics and make rolling more useful and you have basically perfect physics.
Yeah... I really need to root the thing and flash Cyanogen onto it at some point. =P Nice to know it's not a specific tablet issue though!
