    The Water
Shadow as a character (and also the new Chaotix) by extension, are callbacks to 1—3&K because they are callbacks to the Adventure series (and Heroes)

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Well I suppose you're right. I had better examples, but forgot 'em.

Unleashed had a Soleanna Hotel and Pachacamac Parking signs in Skyscraper Scamper. There was a Chao Beans sign too, throwback to Adventures / Heroes I suppose. The Tornado was red again too, it could count.

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Heroes even had a throwback to the glitches of Adventure, with Amy saying she was reminded of Casinopolis :specialed:

Aren't we kinda derailing this topic into "let's count the continuity nods," though? :v:

But actually Unleashed has a real throwback to Adventure. In Unleashed Tails calls his plane "Tornado I". If "Tornado II" never existed, he would call his plane just "Tornado" wouldn't he?

I remember a sign saying Blaze Road and possibly another referring to Rouge.

Sky Scraper Scamper has road signs for Silver Beach, S. Shadow Road and other place names that include various other characters. Oddly enough, Knuckles is never referenced even though Omega is.

That is something though. Throwbacks. There definitely should be a good few in any format in the anniversary title.

So, if they are making something like "Sonic Unleashed 2", but with Sonic in his day-stages-gameplay, and Knuckles with Werehog gameplay.

They even can name this as Sonic & Knuckles Unleashed.

I'd be okay with this if:

    - Knuckles' gameplay was vastly superior to the Werehog's
    - There was more interesting platforming
    - There were less frequent fights,
    - Having more interesting combos that make you want to use them as opposed to button mashing
    - If they're going to insist on a battle theme, at least have two or three different ones (or better yet, a customized version of a theme matching each stage)

Honestly I quite liked the Werehog's game play but there are definitive improvements that need to be made if it is going to return.

lol, if those counts as throwbacks, then that must mean Sonic Colors has the most throwbacks:
    *Rouge is a file name
    *Emerl is a file name
    *Tikal is a file name
    *E-123 is a file name
    *Cream is a file name
    *Charmy is a file name
    *Chaos is a file name
    *Big is a file name
*I'm pretty sure pretty much every Sonic character is a file name. Someone should check if they have obscure ones like "Fang" or "Mighty".

I'd be okay with this if:
    *Everything Mykonos said
*The Wii version doesn't suck and is actually comparable to its HD counterpart, like All Stars Racing is
    *0% Dimps involved

  12. There was an Ecto-1 before there was an Ecto-2. :)

It amuses me how many people didn't like the Werehog solely because of the character. Granted there were some big problems with the Werehog levels but hating them solely for not being the right character seems a bit petty (so you say completely lush and well implemented speed levels would be appalling if you played as Big?).

Werehog's problems for the most part seemed more the level design rather than the gameplay mechanics (par maybe being a bit too slow). The levels were extremely repetitive and lacking in innovative obstacles and challenges, you just beat up loads of generic enemies and placed a few switches here and there. The odd few times they put real effort into the setup the character is placed in it begins to shine (the Egg Dragon was epic for example).

    I. Would Love. Another Sonic & Knuckles game.
Those two are such phenomenal opposites of each other that a 3D Sonic & Knuckles should totally happen.

    Additionally:

Nice work Jester. Saved for awesomenesseses.

Sort of Like what they did in BIONICLE Heroes?

Those are the battle themes for each of the six areas. Compare them to their respective Low and Medium themes.

Well it makes me extremely happy to see that my first ever post on Sonic Retro has exploded in popularity. Scarred Sun (who just wrote an epic and heart-warmingly beautiful post on the front page) called this a "great original post" which was an awesome start. I will be sure to go back to page one and read through the storm of replies to get into the discussion here. We're due for those announcements from Sega any day now if "early 2011" is any indication. I truely hope Sonic Anniversary is a fuck-awesome game to make us all scream with retro-joy. I want HD Ice Cap Zone with pumping synths or bust. We shall see. Now I have some replies to read. Enjoying my time here on Sonic Retro thus far. ;)

No. They'd be fucking AWESOME if you played as Big. Everything is awesome with Big. (inb4 Big Unleashed)

This is pretty much my only problem with the Werehog levels (bar the fact that they're in a Sonic game, but blah) - it needs to be less Streets of Rage 3 and more Bare Knuckle III in terms of number of enemies. It just starts to drag on after the millionth guy you kill.

I'm more excited for any 3DS outings than console releases. I feel more optimistic about handheld outings than anything, as the GBA and DS games have been more enjoyable than the bulk of the console games, Colors excluded.

And to be honest, I've wanted a handheld version of Sonic Adventure ever since I played it on Dreamcast. Now that technology's finally caught up, my hope is re-kindled.
