Well, memorizing it isn't difficult, but beating Eggman without getting hurt and getting all those damn rings is a huge pain in the ass.

Hey, anyone have any tips or a video on how to get passed the MGZ boss in ESZ without getting hurt? That's the only boss I'm having a problem with.

PS: the first boss is really annoying when you hit him, it makes a noise, and it should be the last hit, but he doesn't explode.

The rings in Egg Station don't count toward the Super Sonic ending.

Oh. To get the Super Sonic ending, I thought you needed all of the rings from the Egg Station and all of the rings from + - the ending   . I'll definitely try that then.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
Just the ending. Get all of those and you get the Super Sonic ending. And a stupid avatar mask if you're playing the 360 version.

    All the bitches.

That makes me rage very time I see it because I just feel like the guy who decided on it was just like. "Hmm... I can't think of anything to give as an avatar award. Oh wait I know, I'll just reuse the Mii suit from Winter Olympics!"

That suit looks so fucking close, it makes me rage every time.

EDit: Not to just go HUR HUR REHASH DER, it just makes me rage because they look so similar, and the fact Avatars are a bit ripoff of the style of the Mii doesn't help.

Well, I only noticed the difference in the first boss theme, which admittedly did sound awful. Perhaps it is attributable to the relatively low quality of the playthrough I was referring to (I realise I should have linked this to begin with), but I would like to think that my hearing is a bit better than that… <shrug />

I'm replying on this based on what I played, which was the demo. I hope that counts as "Playing the game".

I'll just summarize this: This game is terrible. I think I owe a big apology to the users saying how bad the physics were, I never said there was nothing wrong with the physics, but I didn't realize just how bad they actually were. Even after spending time following the game on various Sonic sites, I wasn't prepared for how unplayable this game feels. Sonic moves too slow and trying to gain speed feels unnatural. Maybe it's just because I played Rush for all of 2 and a half levels before I decided I hated it and never got used to it, but I at least expected Sonic to pick up a bit of speed if I started moving left or right by jumping (which seems to work in the older games). The uncurling is also something I underestimated, the enemy placement is unfair. I tried four times to make it to the end of the stage with 50 rings but I couldn't do it on the first act of the first zone because enemies seemed to be everywhere I didn't want them to be - but bad enemy placement was present in the classic games as well (Hi there Metropolis zone, you insufferable bitch. Hydrocity and Marble Garden also come to mind.) but what makes it so much worse in Sonic 4 is that it feels like whenever I try to go for enemies, Sonic is being pulled at and it feels like the level is fighting against me at every opportunity. I know that Sonic 1 and CD are praised for such a trait, and I don't know if that was intentional, but it certainly isn't enjoyable for me. But that might be because I expected something more like Sonic 2 with a smoother flow.

Another thing I want to bring up is the start-up animation. This isn't important compared to other things, but why? Alright, SEGA wants to go for the retro 16 bit feel, the only problem is, this game isn't 16 bits, and that South Park stype animation just looks lazy and cheap compared to the quality of graphics lighting and textures. A smooth, fully HD start animation would have been just fine.

The homing attack also feels broken. I know I will be shot dead for this as soon as I exit my house, but I think they should have just let you spam homing attack instead of replace it with the air dash because the targets don't always respond for me. It's frustrating. It makes a slow game even slower in some places.

The only good thing I have to say is that thanks to Sonic 4 being so pathetic, I got a good laugh out of the community's criticism, especially the "Sonic Retro Refund Project."

I bet SEGA doesn't release a demo next time because of people like me. :v:

If they release it digitally on XBLA, they must provide a demo, as per XBLA specifications. Not sure about the other download services, though.

Considering the huge amount of bitching about it, it took me AGES to figure out how to do this:

(Powered up my 360 today for the first time in ages. It's the demo)

Seriously, that took some EFFORT to do. My opinion of the game from SoS still stands - not S3&K by any means, but still not terrible. Physics need tuning, for sure, but they're largely there. I actually like the art and music styles =P

If you try rolling more you'll find that that actually happens somewhat regularly. No effort involved, just rolling. Granted a lot of pics floating around show Sonic doing that areas where you DO have to try, it's not something that should even be possible.

the jump physics are the only thing wrong with the entire game imo. made platforming annoying.

yeah if nothing else for me, the main theme is now burned into my head and I cant get it out >_<

  15. Seriously? That happened to me a lot while I was actually just trying to play the game. I am used to rolling a lot.

I'm OK with the music, but the art is a little lacking, specially concerning the 3D models and all of Splash Hill.

So after having dealing with a week being sick, I meant to post this: the loops are semi automated, it's more of the ceiling that's automated (I'm not sure if this has been posted, but whatever. I've been sick.) I was expecting them to do better! + - (Ha.)   I'm also angry that + - I almost beat E.G.G. Station Zone with all rings except I got hit at the very end by a glitch. Curse you glitches!

  17. I kinda got out of the habit of rolling since the boosters usually do it for you whenever it's required, and the physics for it are kinda messed up (have to hold right to go right instead of just getting speed normally). The only place I've rolled recently (other than spindash) was the Casino Street boss section of E.G.G Station.

I found that staying a tad to the left of the "middle" of the screen is best until you see an opening. This should let all the fake Robotnik eggs jump over you. I only got hit once and that was because I accidentally put myself into a spin and couldn't get out of it fast enough.

So that's why I got hit on that boss.

Now that I finally got my first playthrough complete (it was a chore I had to force myself to do) and physics/momentum aside... Dimps can go screw themselves with their BS level design. :argh:

Sonic 2 had some "FU" moments but not nearly as many as the levels in Sonic 4 did. Enemies right after a vertical spring with no time to react, the countless bottomless pits where one false move (which happens too often with the flawed homing attack), etc. And yes I know Dimps is known for their pits. The most rage-inducing parts I think were the Orbinauts that were at the top of a spring (especially the ones that span the spikes out and in, WTF?!) and the "tower of death" as I came to call it in Mad Gear with the countless Slicers and Asterons. The blind spikes with the piston that pushes you into them was a BS move as well. I never had so much trouble completing a level with more than 25 rings as I did in Sonic 4. I think I had an easier time with the bosses than the levels!

Would be interesting to modify S&K to use this physics engine and see what some of the supporters think about the Lafa Reef Zone act 2 boss. Good luck jumping on those platforms.

    A) Sonic 3 & Knuckles' levels weren't made with Sonic 4: Episode 1 physics in mind.

    B) Actually, it'll be easier:
    1. Jump and hold right.
    2. When directly above platform, let go of right.
    3. ???
    4. PROFIT!

It's the presence of momentum that gives it difficulty.
