The delay is neither bad nor good, it doesn't tell us anything. The people who automatically correlate a delay with an increase of quality are the delusional ones.

Personally I think this delay is the best thing that could be done for Episode 1; Considering the leaks showed the game had some buggy areas.

Though Sonic games in the past decade have suffered to some degree from the fact that they needed varying degrees of spit and polish. At least sega has learned deadlines are not everything!

Why are you people complaining and slandering both Sega and RubyEclipse?

    The new trailer shows all the things we don't like about the series, yes;
    - auto-play areas
    - booster after booster after booster
    - Rush's loop physics

But look, they changed his ball/spinning animation... That sounds like the stupidest tweak, but it shows that they're at least starting to pay attention to little things.

The game has been delayed to fix a lot of what were seen as problem... They haven't re-tooled the engine yet, and thus they don't have footage of what we're going to eventually see in a few months' time, but they've already changed one simple thing before they put out a new trailer.

I was grossly disappointed by the original leaked gameplay footage, but the fact that they've delayed the game, and made it explicitly known that they're trying to fix stuff should be a sign that maybe we shouldn't malign it just yet.

I'm actually a little more interested in the game now than I was before. You people have no right to bitch about Sega, or Ruby as an employee and messenger, when the people involved with this project are trying hard to make sure this game lives up to its expectations.

I'll eat my words if the game still bites when it finally launches, but for right now I remain slightly more optimistic than I was before.

Didn't notice that, though I saw his new spinning animation

This is the most retarded news ever.

Why delay? Everyone knows god damn well Sega's NOT going to:

    *overhaul the physics
    *redo the music
*put classic Sonic in the game
*remove the mine cart and score attack acts

Or anything else that people would actually EXPECT from a delay.

They better merge this with episode 2 or something, and they ought to do a disc release

Look at 25 seconds in, he hits a chomper and keeps spinning.

Then again at 27 seconds in, he hits a Newtron and keeps spinning. Both times he just bopped them, he didn't homing attack them.

When he does the chain of Spikers he does it so fast that I can't tell if he uncurls, but it looks like he does.

I'm not saying this will automatically fix the game, but it at least creates the possibility that the game will better whereas without the delay, there's no such possibility - we're guaranteed to be stuck with minecarts and pinball levels. Anyone who hates the game should be happy. There's a chance it could get better, and if it doesn't, well, you didn't like the game anyway!

This is just conspiracy-style paranoia. Of course the scientists say we landed on the moon, THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK. You're just immediately jumping to the worst possible conclusion because you have some - again - irrational hatred of the game.

I doubt that they're going to remove the mine cart or gimmick Casino acts, but I wouldn't be surprised if time spent during the delay was spent on improving the physics and maybe even making the music sound better.

It's the same, what are you talking about.

And I recall people having more problems with the jumping animation.

But according to the announcement, "response has been overwhelmingly positive".

Dimps and Sega DO NOT BELIEVE THERE ARE any problems, and so they can't be "delaying" to fix them.

I reiterate that this is nothing more than a trick to snare the lost revenue they WOULD have had from piracy, by making the pirates think what they have is a beta so they'll buy it legit.

Happy for what? That the theoretical possibility exists that the game may get better?

I don't think it's unreasonable for me to reserve my happiness for when I actually see improvement, no?

If the game is delayed, just drop the episodic parts and make a real Sonic 4. On a disc.

As for refining everything, it's something they have to do in order to please the fanbase. They need to fix some of the animations (in progress), make the levels better and allow a non-homing attack route in every act and do something with the music. I said in an earlier post that Sonic 4 is a make-or-break thing for SEGA. People wanted this sequel and have been shafted in many ways possible.

I'm still disappointed. I'm not going to be able to play this game because the iPhone is supposedly better than a PC (lol Apple) and SEGA don't give a fuck.

  16. Replacing synth with proper instruments isn't too hard for a team of developers. As far as I know the only real problem with the music was the fact that it had that fucking irritating lead synth in it everywhere.

I don't know what on earth they'll be doing, but its not like they'll make the game worse.

Yes. The iPhone is a better platform for a 2D sidscroller than a PC. Like a few people have mentioned before. There is little to no market for a PC version of Sonic 4, and the market on the iPod Touch and iPhone is MASSIVE. Consider the sales of the iPhone ports of Sonic 1 and 2.
It would be illogical to NOT put this thing on the iPhone...

I don't know what you're on, but response HAS been overwelmingly positive. A couple of forum dwellers aren't the majority. Look at every single professional preview for the game. Look at every comment box on IGN, gamespot, 1up, destructoid, etc. The response to Sonic 4 has been very positive outside of the extremely critical few on Retro and NeoGAF. And even then, they appear to have heard us.

What's Sega going to say, "yeah, our game looked like shit, we're pushing it back so it's not totally broken"? No, it's called PR spin. Anything they say in a press release is going to be worded so as to not make Sega look bad. If they didn't think there were problems, they wouldn't be delaying it, plain and simple.

You know what, you're probably right. They're delaying it to make the game worse. :specialed:

Now, when they say Q4 2010, that usually means September through December, right?

Anyways, it's good to see that Sega is going to fix up some of the stuff in the game from descending into shit territory. Maybe the holiday rush of new 360 Arcade games WILL come in handy when this bad-boy goes out! :v:
