In fairness, in 2010 Nintendo also released Super Mario Galaxy 2. I don't think you need to celebrate an anniversary with some over-the-top extravaganza like Generations, though it's a nice gesture.
Pokecapn and friends started posting their Generations LP on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05g0dWit7NI&feature=g-all-a&list=PL97CAAB64B9478280&context=G2e35f45FAAAAAAAAAAA
Sega should really fire their currehnt beta testers and hire new ones if there's this many glitches. Thankfully unless you know they're there, you're okay, I think.
I love that speedrun. When the guy jumps outside the main course and stands on the walkway, I forget for a moment that the entire scenery around Sonic is an illusion.
I don't think anyone has posted this, so I have some good news for those with a multimonitor setup. The guys at WidescreenGaming have updated their Widescreen Fixer, which allows certain games to run at multimonitor resolutions, even if the game doesn't normally support it. Generations doesn't, it stretches everything and looks shitty. It's been updated and Generations can be played on 3 monitors nearly flawlessly, the only issue being the HUD is still stretched, the results screen is also stretched, but ingame it is absolutely beautiful. Here is the link to WidescreenFixer for those interested. Have some screenshots too, so you can see it in action.
That works for users with screens less wide than 16:9 too and without having to letterbox. The HUD scaling fix is broken though.
This looks absolutely amazing! Is there a video of this? I'd love to see that in motion! Also, about the HUD.. There's a way to remove it, so the game could look even more beautiful and without stretched HUD.
pokecapn demonstrates the most stylish way to die in Speed Highway Act 2. youtube.com/watch?v=5ZK0Ul1N- -g Remove the space. I would embed, but—if the space wasn't a big enough hint—Retro insists on changing the double-hyphen into a dash, rendering the url completely fucking useless. Nice work!
Ok, here's an interesting question... Which Generations levels do you think outdid the originals? For me I'd have to say... Green Hill - No Chemical Plant - No Sky Sanctuary - No, but damn it's pretty! Metal Sonic Boss - No Death Egg Boss - Yes Speed Highway - No City Escape - Yes Seaside Hill - Yes Shadow Boss - Never played the original Perfect Chaos - Not quite Crisis City - Yes Rooftop Run - Yes Planet Wisp - Yes Silver Boss - Never played the original Egg Dragoon - Yes
I'll play along. Green Hill - No Chemical Plant - No Sky Sanctuary - Yes Metal Sonic Boss - Yes (It's an actual fight..) Death Egg Boss - Yes Speed Highway - Yes City Escape - Yes Seaside Hill - Yes Shadow Boss - No Perfect Chaos - No Crisis City - Yes Rooftop Run - Yes Planet Wisp - Yes Silver Boss - OH GOD YES Egg Dragoon - Yes
Alright, but I think we need to elaborate a bit instead of just listing it. Green Hill - No Chemical Plant - No Sky Sanctuary - No The originals will still beat out any modern rendition. They're too classic. However their modern renditions were awesome regardless. Metal Sonic Boss - No I liked the original race format for this. It proved Metal was on par with Sonic. Death Egg Boss - No The way Death Egg worked before was amazing. Yes it took longer but it felt more satisfying. Speed Highway - No The original one still works because the layout wasn't confusing to hell. City Escape - Yes This one WAS improved. Moderns Version had alot more variety, and the GUN truck was amplified to 11 Billion. Seaside Hill - No The original level had team mechanics that worked well for the game it was from. When you try to shoehorn changes that don't reflect the original design and mechanics...I feel something is wrong. Shadow Boss - NO The original boss was MUCH more thrilling, and you actually ATTACKED Shadow. Perfect Chaos - No The way it was a Super Sonic boss worked. Modern Boosting does not. Crisis City - Yes This level received the makeover it deserved. Rooftop Run - Yes This level got alot brighter and more chaotic, while keeping the same things that made the original awesome. Planet Wisp - No So what if it was all metal? The linear paths and only two Wisp powers JUST CAN'T hold a candle to the original. Silver Boss - YES This was unexpectedly my favorite rival battle. It fixed all errors from the original fight and proved to me Silver can work as a character in this regard. Egg Dragoon - No While the new fight made it work for Modern Sonic, I felt the original fight felt much tighter and better executed.
