If you mean component cables (YPbPr), then yes. A component cable won't turn Wii graphics into HD, but the image quality is noticeably better than with plain old composite.

How so? Sharper image quality? Flicker removal?

As a materials scientist I feel obliged to point out that there will, in fact, be no difference in quality at all using rare metal cables or gold plated connectors or any of that bloated audiophile pricetag scammery.

You do get electronic band gap distortions with different and higher quality materials... but they're the kind of differences that are utterly dwarfed by background fluctuations in the machining process. Several double-blind trials have shown that the "sound quality gain" from using specialist wiring is just a placebo effect: you think your sound quality should go up, so you convince yourself that you are actually hearing superior sound quality.

So don't bother with your yttrium cables, basicly. :ssh:

HEY HOW ABOUT THAT SONIC COLOURS?!

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Huh? Aren't Component cables the ones the split the video signal up into red, blue and green seperately? What's that got to do with materials?

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
So it doesn't really make a difference between once component cable and another, but component is still much better quality than composite.

Finally started playing this game on Wii, and I gotta admit I really like it. I wasn't a huge fan of unleashed Wii, but this controls much better IMO. Although I've noticed some of the acts are really damn short, there was at least one I completed in <30 seconds on my first try, and it wasn't even a good run.

(Where's a facepalm picture when you need one?)
As a multimedia scientist, and as someone capable of reading AND understanding what Lobotomy asked, I feel obliged to advise you to read up on the differences between composite and component video.

Sorry, I thought YPbPr meant some freak kind of yttrium-lead-praesodymium alloy that you're trying to use to "make electrons flow better" or whatever crap the gold-plated cable proponents go on about. 'Cos THAT doesn't work. But you're correct that I don't know shit about video feed splitting, and that's a whole other kettle of fish that may well improve quality, IDK.

Don't mind me I'll just go back to mah wiki :specialed:

Exactly! While it's true that expensive high quality cables don't make a noticeable difference (especially not when carrying digital signals), that's not the question here at all.

Depends on what you mean by that.
Composite video: only one lead for the whole image. Typically full of dot crawl which can be described as "flickering".
Component video: in case of YPbPr, three leads for the image: one luma channel+sync (the "Y", gives you a b/w picture on its own) and two chroma channels (Pb and Pr).
On the Wii, YPbPr also enables progressive video (composite is always interlaced), which is a plus too.

I'm too lazy to search for a good composite vs. component comparison, but component is factually better. Although I guess some people might not notice the difference much. Anyway, given that you can get 3rd party Wii component cables rather cheap, there's no excuse not to use them, if your display supports YPbPr of course.

Component cables don't carry the signal digitally, so that parenthetical note is a bit moot.

Component is generally better because colors tend to bleed together when they aren't separated into the 3 channels you get with component video cables... or some such thing like that. Honestly I never really understood the reason for the quality difference, all I really cared about was the fact that they let me do 480p.

I beat the game after playing it for about 6 hours. It's a pretty short game but there's so much replay value that I find its length fine.

    Some of my biggest complaints:
-The double jump is really, really lackluster. I was hoping it would feel more like the lightning shield double jump in S3&K. In generally, I wish the jumps felt more like the Genesis games but it's tolerable.
-I don't like boosting in Sonic Unleashed or the Rush games just as a personal opinion. In this game however, boosting is actually a serious in-game flaw. Since there is no spin dash and getting boost energy is much harder in this game than it is with Unleashed, it can be a real huge annoyance when you want to spin or boost an enemy but can't because of a lack of energy. I lost a lot of rings this way. >_>
-Please fucking map the side step to the L and R buttons for GameCube and Classic Controller owners. It wouldn't be much of a problem if Sonic didn't slow down by not pushing forward but it makes side steps a huge pain in the ass.
-Why is there such a lack of boss variety? That was a really terrible idea and took away the early boss battle's specialness.
-On Act 1 of the last zone, + - boosting near the end of the level really fucks you over because of the automatic camera. This is the only time in the game where the camera ticked me off.
-The button mapping for the Classic Controller sucks. Jumping should be B, sliding should be A, and boosting should be Y. :/ This caused me to use the GCN controller for the entire game which is a great controller but it's unfortunate the buttons were mapped stupidly for one of the controller options.
    - + - Even though I really enjoyed the last boss battle, I was disappointed there wasn't another boss battle afterwords with Sonic in his super form. >_> However, finding out getting all of the red coins gives me Super Sonic totally makes up for it. Actually, since it's possible to get 50 rings on that stage, that can be a Super Sonic battle. Cool.
-I wish all of the cutscenes were in CG.

That pretty much covers all of my gripes about the game. Despite all that bitching, I think it's the best 3D Sonic game ever and a really great game. However, Sonic Adventure 2's Sonic and Shadow stages along with the Chao Garden will always have a special place in my heart. <3 They could have done a really cool Chao system with this game but oh well. For the next Sonic game with a Chao Garden, I'd prefer it to be a PS3/360 game so there's potential for online Chao raising which would be awesome.

    Edit-

I forgot to bitch about the lack of a volume selector. The writers spent a lot of time making jokes for Dr. Robotnik during the levels but I can rarely understand him because the music's volume is much louder than him.

Oh really? That fucking sucks. I can't image how awesome that would have been + - on the final boss.   :(

Oh, lord. As if someone could possibly be spoiled by knowing the game has *gasp* a FINAL BOSS D:

Can we please cut out the senseless spoiler tagging? It's bad enough when hiding actual content, but now it just seems more like a game.

What? Where? How? It better not be a reward for getting 180 emblems either! I thought I was working to playable Tails!

Just ruined the game for me, I'm not gonna bother getting thoses last 4 emblems now!

I also found 1 way to skip the 2d section in the final boss. + - When you get a rocket wisp, and when the boss goes 2d, then asap launch the rocket wisp, and when you land, you get only the meteors falling at your face in 3d etcand no 2d lazers and meteors. Found it accidentally on my own though xD.

So, got Super Sonic last night.

Super Sonic + Terminal Velocity is hilarious.

I loathed that level first time around, so it's great to go in as Supes, get 50 Rings within 20 seconds or so of starting, and beat the entire level without getting hit while never ceasing to boost. Instant S-rank.

While I've gotten nearly 170 Red Rings so far without using any guides or help (something I'm quite proud of), I'm going to ask you guys here for a vague hint.

In Planet Wisp Act 3, are the first two Red Rings in the Quick Step section? It's driving me nuts that I can't find them, and I hate looking for trinkets in auto-forward sections.

EDIT:....as soon as I post I find the first one.

EDIT 2:........and the second one. Never mind.
