Japanese use "Colors" because their English is stolen from the US. And the canon spelling is actually "????????".
Jesus, is that what you kids consider alternate paths nowadays? Fuck, before you would always find some secret door hidden in the background, some corner that lead you to an assload of treasure, a fake wall that took you to an entirely new part of a level or a vine that bypassed an entire section of a stage. Now it's just go left for a few seconds and then you're back to the main path.
Precisely, your definition of alternate route is skewed, there were no "alternate routes" in City Escape, just very minor deviations, short cuts, nothing more. PLAY SONIC CD, then you will understand what is meant by "alternate route".
Why so many comparisons? Sonic Colours is clearly its own game. The only thing it shares with anything, is the style of gameplay from Unleashed. Its completely different from the classics. Its similar to, but nonetheless different to Unleashed. Treat this game as a standalone title. Praise its best elements and criticise its flaws, after the game has been released, once you've seen everything there is to see. I only really want to say this once. Sonic games do not need alternate large alternate paths to be good. The game can be linear, but as long as the controls are good, the level design is interesting and most importantly, it is FUN, then the game is good. Its pointless complaining about alternate routes (or lack thereof) in comparison to the classics, because they are NOTHING ALIKE. Its literally like comparing an Apple to an Orange.
This is real? Why can't Tails be in there <_< Plus, unless it's online, I have no reason to care unfortunately since I have no one to play with locally :P. Cool nonetheless.
oh god fans across the world are going to cry foul at sega stealing their ORIGINAL CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL.
If it's online, there is no reason I can think of to have antennae on each of their heads for that cause. Forgive my pessimism, but I sense a gimmick. The stage design itself looks interesting...maybe a special stage?
A red Sonic though? If Sonic Team was smarter, they'd recolour it black and red and they'd have a bigger blockbuster than they're already going to have. The first thing that I thought about was random generated level. Ah ah, no way.
It may just be there so you can't get too far away from each other, much like the way that you share an air-guage on co-op in Riders.
This is honestly probably just some shittily thrown together 2-player game, I really don't think you guys should be getting too excited for it.
