I think I might actually draw some fanart, with a little World Domination on the side *COUGH* DID I SAY THAT OUT LOUD
I wanted to make that joke. I was REALLY trying to refrain from making it, 'cause I figured it was gonna be corny.

    Good game, sir.

I guess it's just that stifling feeling of being locked into it without any time to breath or do any actual thinking about what you want to do or where you want to go. It just feels completely wrong as fuck.

The fact that the level starts off with you blazing at top speed down a narrow path says it all. Hang the fuck on a minute! I actually like to get a feel for my environment and go at my own pace like I could in Adventure 1.

Yeah, if you speed through it as intended, it's a game of reflexes. But apart from a few automated setpieces, nothing stops you from taking it slow.
On that note, I miss the ability to crawl in Sonic Generations. Sure, it was rather useless, but fun. And it also looked better than sliding at a snail's pace.
Some manual camera control would also be nice for those occasions when you want to go slow and enjoy the scenery.

  4. So, I just got done with the demo. I of course started with the superior Classic Sonic. The first thing I thought was, "This Chao mother$%^&* needs to get out of my face." Haha.

Anyway, damn they made Classic Sonic so freaking fast. The first thing I did was run into a Badnik at full speed.

I got to get used to not being able to rev the hotbutton Spin Dash. But all in all, I liked it and have no real complaints.

The Modern Sonic was just a speed feast. Yes I have a problem with Sonic games playing themselves. I want my platforming back.

Well Green hill is the kinda basic stage, that isnt meant to overwhelm you with too many complications. I do agree that its very rigid if your trying to blast through at max speed, there is like the "good route" and not much else. I found the level a hell of a lot more enjoyable when I just held off max speed and just went for a little explore, there are many subtle and not so subtle routes you can take.

But yeah the stage does seem very much like a racetrack compaired to older 3d endevours, but then again, take a stage like Emerald Coast, that level is very closed off, but the large ocean gives the impression of being open, but you are pretty much just stuck in one narrow path the whole way, you're just not moving so fast so you can enjoy it more though.

Thats still my ultimate stupid complaint about any modern sonic game, They are still just too fast =/

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
You're going to love Sky Sanctuary.

The speed was rather tasty, at that. But then, so's the platforming in Sky Sanctuary, by all appearances. I hope that particular trend is more dominant than the one set by Green Hill (which is fine for its place in the game; we'll see how the speed/platforming balance really is when we have all nine zones lined up next to each other).

  10. I honestly hear that I will. I need to get around to watching that video.

It's definitely been posted a couple of times, but I don't see how that has any bearing on your intelligence.

Act 1 of GHZ? Perhaps. Act 2 of GHZ is less so. I like the trick of getting the speed shoes and zooming across the loop "backwards" in order to jump at the top where the 1-up is. And then the easily-findable hidden invincibility before the set of moving platforms so you can walk along the spikes. At the very least, irrespective of its linearity, it was fairly tricky.

You think 30$ for a game is almost like a steal? Steam version costs 12.6 US dollars here in Russia. Jeez piracy is real bad in my country.

I just got a game over in classic on purpose. It plays the Sonic 3&K Game Over remix, then this interesting tick-tock tune.

Classic physics are NEVER going to work properly in Generations. It's akin to wanting to put a V6 engine in a car that demands (and is built for) a V12...you may love the feel of the V6 in one car (the car being S 1,2,3 CD & K...) but this is a game requires nothing less than the V12. And as such, they're going to handle a bit differently! You could install Taxman's engine in Generations but the fact of the matter is it wouldn't work the way you'd want it to. It would invariably need to be tweaked.

Those classic physics we all love (myself included) were built around very different level maps. The difference is night and day. As I pointed out earlier, the loops were originally MUCH smaller (requiring less momentum), the distance between any two points was radically different (Sonic's original classic speed reflected this) The kind of level maps encountered in Classic Generations are entirely different beasts. Sonic has more terrain to cover, greater loops and corkscrews to get through, greater heights to get to...all this to say, that this purist bitching and moaning and writing off the game - based on the introductory stage no less - is ri-goddamn-dicilous.

Rewind to the dumpster fire that was Sonic 2006 or even Unleashed in 2008. I believe not ONE of us could have ever imagined a game of this quality ever coming out of Sonic Team. They've given us a brilliant piece of nostalgia that has so many minor nuances (that only hardcore Sonic fans would appreciate) that to complain is to miss the point entirely. I'm NOT suggesting people can't have their opinions, or have things that piss them off about the game - that's nothing new. What pisses me off is when a contingent of diehard purists go out of their way to reenforce every negative stereotype about the Sonic fandom. I am an oldschool purist myself but even I can appreciate that Classic Sonic as rendered in 2011, in 3 dimensions is going to be a little different than he was 20 years ago. Yes, the rolling still sucks here, but it's not going to hinder my mastering the game like I did back in the days of the Genesis! :eng101:

That reminds me ... check your PM*.

So I preordered Sonic Generations. Hopefully my GeForce 310M can handle it.

If not I'll borrow my bro's Alienware and record those City Escape chases.

*No I'm not buying it for you.

    Doing absolutely nothing
Classic's physics don't bother me that much. He's playable, and he's fun. That's all that matters to me.

I do expect them to polish him up further in Sonic Generations 2, though.

Absolutely! And I fully expect that they would keep fine-tuning Classic and even Modern Sonic. They've done wonders (save the reassigning of some of the buttons) with making Modern tighter and faster than Unleashed (I find drifting especially has been improved).

When I hear some people demanding that they have more "choice" and more opportunities to explore alternate areas of the level, I can't help but feel that's almost never been the case since SA1. As someone else pointed out, SA1 was about as Linear as they come. Perhaps people are romanticizing it a bit more as the hubworlds played a major role, but save a few less invisible walls, it was damn linear. Believe me, I wanted to explore City Escape in SA2 but that was about as linear as it comes. I think people are going to be delightfully surprised by the alternate paths as the stages progress...

green man gaming has this for 25 sans the steam pre-order bonuses. The game is supposed to be steamworks, so we should get a cd-key that we activate on steam. If not, I'm cancelling the order on GMG.
