Well, that was interesting. So is it possible that translating Japanese to Cantonese to English creates consistently coherent translations for nonsensical Japanese songs?
+1 to fourth wall breakage in the first episode. I haven't exactly been a huge fan of the show, but that whole "remember kids, don't jump on a moving car" conversation made me lol. Why did 4Kids take that out? Also, (I don't really know for sure) it seems like there's better explanation of things in the sub, like I don't really remember the whole part where Sonic talks about the moon and stars looking the same from where he came from.
TMS International version, I'd believe. It's like uncut, except it's less Japanese anyway, for some reason.
4Kids Executive: "Kids don't care about astronomy! Throw out the exposition dialogue and put in a funny one-liner instead!"
Yeah. This is as "uncut" as 4Kids is allowed to provide, seeing as TMS Entertainment painted off all the japanese writing on the episodes before giving them to anyone outside of Japan. I'm surprised as is that they've managed to get the japanese logo in the opening. Other foreign distributors had an english logo instead.
I remember in episode 26, right before the climatic battle with the Egg Emperor, Eggman addressed the kids watching the show, telling them to pay attention so they could talk about what happened at school the next day. That's one of the funniest Eggman moments in my book.
So other then painted off japanese words, what else is different in these TMS-I. versions? HOORAY FOR MAN CHILD PEOPLE! :specialed:
Only that, I believe. And occasionally some edits that were also done in the japanese DVD releases (I.e. PASSWARD fixed to PASSWORD in the 30s). However, the lack of japanese text makes for some occasional awkward situations, where you see characters holding blank signs. Oh, and the next episode previews are gone. TMS didn't provide those, either. Also a shadow effect in episode 4 was mysteriously removed in the international footage.
I believe he's talking about the missing shadow effect in the dub as well: http://85.195.15.84/SXUncensored/series/ep04.htm
Giving this a bump up. Episodes 1 through 5, plus the opening and endings, are available on 4KidsTV's Youtube channel with Subtitles.. Hulu also hosts both the subtitled and dubbed version.
Yeah they really need to show this here. What's stopping them from doing so? I don't think any TV station carries Sonic X any more anyway.
