I did a sort of parody 'remake' of Sonic Boom which included sprites from Sonic's Mega Quest and a few other infamous early fan games. Instead of having levels it was just an endless score attack thing and was full of random wav samples from ren and stimpy, ranma 1/2, the simpsons etc. Did anyone play it? Maybe I should upload it haha.
New, old Sonic Fan Game day! Tails' Rescue Quest! Made by Adam Merideth - a very quick game, but I actually enjoyed playing this one! That lava level had some incling of fun game design in it, which I don't see much from other old Fan games.
Sonic Fan Games - Tails & The Quest For 100 Rings Complete playthrough of this one! Tails Quest was one of the first Sonic Fan games ever made, made by Magnus Anderson, all hand drawn and not bad for a kid. Missing from this video is about 45 minutes of me trying to beat the bloody thing because it's very difficult.
Is SFGHQ dead? I've tried every once in a while for a long time to access it and every time I get either a 404 or an "Account Suspended". The Sonic Retro wiki lists it as "Online" and I haven't found any website closing announcements. On the contrary, everything I've read feels like people are still using the forum. :specialed: That said, while looking into it I found this: http://pc0.hapisan.com/sfghq/games/ It has most of the ones from the big zip, I think, but as individual downloads.
The wiki badly needs some updating lol. SFGHQ has no real site or forum right now. All of that is in the works and planned for launch sometime this year. In the meantime, the community is active on a Discord server if you'd like to join.
Remember both the game and the person - used to chat with them on AIM forever ago. However I think the game in question may be lost to the echoes of the Internet. I have a hard time finding my own projects from back then that are also lost. Sonic Fusion was remarkably impressive given the time period - way ahead of its time.
Anyone have a working link for the latest version of Sonic Axiom? The game was released in 2011 so my Google-fu is failing me and I'm finding it difficult to locate. Any help would be appreciated! EDIT: Nevermind. Checked the Sonic Retro Sonic Axiom release thread and found a working link of the 2012 version of the game: http://www.mediafire.com/file/0rcb97g9d1dyvxn/SonicAxiom.zip It's one of the best Sonic fangames ever released so if anyone else wants to play it - there's your link!
10 minutes with Google and I found the song that was in Raudaschl's Sonic Fusion game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTZ2NXtD-AU Wonder if anyone else remembers this!
Sorry if I'm a little late to the party. I found this topic about old Sonic fan games and I couldn't resist posting here. I've played so many of them it's not even funny. I'd like to share some of my memories here if I'm not bothering anyone. I see most of you downloaded fan games from SFGHQ. My story is a little different, you see. When I was little, my parents bought many CDs that had games on them. Yes, people were actually selling freeware games and earning money from them. I think there were 7 "main" volumes, 2 dedicated to Mario and Sonic fan games, and one that claimed to have 700 games. There are possibly many more, but those were the ones I had. The CDs had demos of official Sonic games released for PC (S&K Collection, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Heroes) but they were also filled with fan made games. Some of the Sonic fan games included there were well-known, mainly SRB2, Time Attacked and the Magicgrafx games. However there are many I played that I didn't see anyone bring up here so I'm curious to know if anyone else has heard of them. Here are some of them: Spoiler - Sonic Universe: Made by Alexandre Martins (@lex) from Brazil. There were two of these. They had Sonic 3/S&K sprites and zones. The first had Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. There was also an underwater stage from Donkey Kong Country, oddly enough. It also had minigames you could unlock, and the intro used a song from the Sonic OVA. - Sonic Universe 2: The title screen had the Sonic 1 logo with Sonic recolored yellow to look like Super Sonic. It added Amy and Shadow, and the ending song was in Japanese (I'm sure it was a Dreams Come True song, the same one that was later used for the Sonic 2 ending). After beating it you could play as Espio. - Neo Sonic Universe: Made by the same guy in 2003, it was sort of a reimagining of the previous two games, it also had Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Shadow. It used Advance zones and sprites, though Shadow's sprites were new. It also had an improved engine and it played really close to the Advance games, with each character being unique. You had to go through the entire game as all the characters, unlocking the next after each playthrough. The villain was someone named Evil Tempest, who looked just like Shadow, and in the final stage you fought him as Super Sonic. It also had snowboard Special Stages and a really cool battle mode. Really impressive game and one of my all time favorites. - Sonic Zone: It used Sonic 3 sprites and had many original zones, at least I remember them not being recycled. - Sonic ZE: Used Sonic 3 sprites and Advance sound effects. The zones were huge, and Sonic's sprite was very small. It had a huge number of zones but most of them were incomplete or had dead ends. The zones themselves were a weird mix between the Genesis games and the first Advance. - Sonic Quest: By Emerald Games. It had hand drawn cutscenes, and only two zones with one act each and a boss. The story ended on a cliffhanger. It was supposed to be an episodic series of games, though I'm not sure if more were made. - Freedom Fighters: A MUGEN based fighting game, and another one made in Brazil, by MUGENHunter. Basically a traditional 2D fighting game similar to KOF, but with Sonic characters. It had a very distinct art style with heavily muscular characters. DOS game, so it no longer works on my computer. - Sonic Super: It had Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. The intro showed Rouge stealing the Master Emerald. The first stage was Azure Lake from the Sonic 3 competition mode turned into a full zone (which I thought was a nice touch). After said stage there was a boss in Collision Chaos and I don't remember much else. - Knuckles vs. Super Sonic: Another MUGEN fighting game, though it only had two characters (the ones in the title) and two stages, one of them being a burning building (which I think it's actually taken from The Last Blade 2) and the Windows Dune wallpaper with Spider-Man and Venom fighting in the background. Like the other fighting game, it is also a DOS game. - Mario & Sonic: It had Sonic, Tails, Mario and Luigi in Mushroom Hill. It had both rings and coins but only the Sonic characters could grab the rings and the Mario characters could grab the coins. I think it only had one zone and that was it. Sonic and Tails used Advance sprites, and the Mario and Luigi sprites were custom made (I think they're the same ones used in Super Smash Flash). - A DOS game simply titled Sonic the Hedgehog. Apparently based on Sonic 1, it only had Green Hill, a boss fight in Star Light, Spring Yard, and a fight against Robotnik/Eggman in outer space. It also had Super Sonic and a strange, red Super Sonic that gave you 666 rings. The music used to creep me out when I was little. It was made in Spain. There were a few I could not remember the names of: - It had a 3D-ish Sonic sprite in what appears to be a stage from Yoshi's Island, and after that you had to fight the Cerberus boss from Castlevania Bloodlines. - A remake of Hidden Palace Zone, though interestingly it was based on the magazine screenshots rather than the Sonic 2 Beta version, with a red and yellow color palette. It closed itself after you completed the stage. There was also another remake of Hidden Palace Zone, this time based on the Beta, and a remake of Wood Zone, and in those two you had Tails following you and you could control his flight. - A 2-player surfing game with Sonic, a red Sonic and TMNT Turtles in Time music. There was also a tennis game with Sonic and Knuckles and even back then I didn't like it. There are probably more but those are the ones I remember the most. Has anyone played or heard of them? Fortunately I still have all the CDs in case any of you want to play them, except for Vol. 6, but I don't remember it having anything of interest, only the 3D Blast PC demo. I think Time Attacked was also in there, but it's widely available online so no worries.
