I have no idea why the OVA gave him a hat, but it's cool to see it again

Very scary to see people reply to it saying Sonic looks better with segmented eyes

 

They're right, stay mad. The monoeye sucks, it's always sucked.



It only worked back in the old days when he was drawn where the "pupils" were the parts that blinked and it could be coped that the white parts were just lighter coloured fur around his beady little black eyes. And even that was situational depending on the artist.

 

It's a very common eye stylization, plenty of cartoon characters have it.

 

But not Tails or Knuckles or Blaze or Rouge or Espio or...

Anyway, I don't like it anywhere it's used, it's strange and unnecessary and looks particularly odd in three dimensions.

Of course it's okay to have opinions about it, no one's actually "right" in the end. It's just one thing I particularly enjoy about his movie design and I think they handled it well by putting that little patch of white fur above his nose.

The GOAT is finally getting the justice he deserves!

 

Sonic's mono-eye is a really iconic part of his design but also the most inherently cartoonish. I think it looked great and funny as hell in Sonic the Fighters

How it looks really depends on who's animating him. I've noticed that western animators seem to love making his eyes look square shaped, he ends up looking like the Pixar cars. looks so weird imho.


I think the biggest reason it looks weird nowadays is because Sonic's currrent model just looks bad. It feels like they have a fundamental misunderstanding of cartooning. Compare it with older stuff where they made more of an effort to give the illusion that his eyes were separate

 

I still think two eyes is better in principle but yeah, well said. I wouldn't be nearly so sour on it if Sonic still fundamentally resembled a classic cartoon character rather than the cereal box mascot he's been for awhile now.

Also my dad's a wrestling buff and mentioned Knuckles was all over NXT Stand and Deliver yesterday for some kind of cross promotion.

Yeah and it looks like Stadium did a write up with some other tidbits. My dad's text implied there was some advertising around the ring as well ("...banners on mat and barricades and ring..."). I was supposed to go watch with him, but he lives about an hour away and I've been dealing with some respiratory BS for the last week. I bet it was cool to see live.

EDIT: Another cute promo video, this one's the other actors discussing what it's been like to work with Knuckles.

 

Sonic 3's trailer was shown at Cinemacon.
According to people who saw it it showed Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles fighting Shadow who was on a motorcycle.
It also showed Jim Carrey's Robotnik, getting fat as he sulk's his previous lost. And apparently New York was shown as a location.

 

Kino is back on the menu. Jeff Fowler truly was the best choice to direct these movies.
