I mean it could be diegetic and some echidna is off somewhere playing bongos.... Very loudly. :V

What I meant was that the melody (or whatever) of the drumbeat is common and not the sort of the thing that is truly unique. "Stuck" by Stacie Orrico also uses this drumbeat (or at least something similar), for example, and I'm sure someone can dig up various other songs with this sort of thing, much like how Green Hill Zone's music and "Mickey" by Toni Basil both use, to different extents, the kick-snare-kick-kick-snare drumbeat.

I noticed that on the Xbox 360 version. You can still hear the beat when other music starts playing in past cutscenes.

Thank you SO MUCH for this. Saw it was sitting on ebay for a ~£800 asking price for months. How much did you end up paying in the end? Such a lottery when you can't even be sure what's on the disk.

I've wanted a clean, hi-res version of the Sonic Adventure background for ages and thanks to you, we have it! Excited for this stuff to be uploaded to the wiki.

EDIT: Oh, they already have! I have updated the page for SA2 accordingly :)

Here is my attempt at recreating the SA1 cover art in hi-res.

(image too large to be uploaded here)

I used these as a guide:

Hi, I ended up paying €1,100.91 for it.

  8. I guess it's safe to say Akira Toriyama's work was a inspiration for Naoto Oshima creating Sonic the Hedgehog:

On a related note, Judy Totoya has stated that Sonic and Tails' relationship was based on Piccolo and Gohan:

Dragon Ball really hit hard on many fronts, despite not seeming so nowadays.
A great loss, he passed way too soon. So sad to see him leave this soon...

Please don't just link to Twitter. Copy the tweet so it doesn't get lost.

I always chalked up the addition of a 7th emerald in Sonic 2 to an attempt at justifying why you could go Super now, rather than them drawing inspiration from Dragon Ball. "You need 7 emeralds to transform. That's why you can do it in Sonic 2 but not the previous game, where you could only get 6."

Someone just pointed out this to me on Twitter, but it looks like the first draft of the Sonic bible mentions 7 emeralds.

The second draft is dated June 24, 1991 so this predates Sonic 2. I think it was a coincidence but who knows.

I do think 7 is a better number because of all the meaning/symbolism it has behind it.

Finally, after all those years, the mystery has been solved!

...They're not going to claim Super Sonic wasn't inspired by Dragon Ball, right?
