So when I first installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition I was very disappointed my touch screen didn't work properly, but I loved the interface. The problem is though they are replacing Netbook Launcher with Unity in 10.10 (which actually works with my touch screen). So a few drinks later... I said fine I'll just make my own Netbook Launcher but with Windows!

So one boring evening later trying to remember VB.NET (Yeah I know it's all I know.. =/) I came up with a very basic program that is far from complete. So here's the first and very incomplete version of Winbook Launcher. Only the Favorites tab is usable mainly just for demonstration. Yes I know I suck at artwork too. I'll probably see if I can get someone else to do the Category Icons once I get it more finished.

The way it works is I have a small form that lays over the start button area so that's how you launch the main menu on the left and then click a category to display the area on the right. I originally planned on having the System category for launching items found in the Control Panel. On the favorites page I also wanted to make some form of a command bar for running applications (think like "Run" in Windows). I also need to learn to make it customizable so people can add their own applications.

So what do you guys think should I take the time to learn some more VB.net to add the features I want?

I should be able to fix the corners of the forms soon I just made a mistake in gimp and those brighter pixels are a different color than what I have set as the transparency color.

    You mean like this?

In all seriousness, it shouldn't matter if anybody else wants it. If you want to make it, if you want it, go ahead and do it and screw what everybody else thinks.

Edit: make sure to put correct URL to image.

That's kinda cool, actually. If you want to do it properly why don't you look in to Litestep, you could probably make a plugin for it like this and have a proper shell replacement instead of just a program running full screen.

And of course, since Litestep isn't "Explorer", the poor souls running Win7 Starter may actually be able to get around some of the limitations built into it, like the wallpaper thing.

Sadly, yes. But most of them switch to Litestep or some other open source shell to bypass the restrictions that Microsoft built into Windows Starter's Explorer.

And btw, the UNE interface in 10.04 will still be available to be installed on your computer if you want to use it in 10.10.
