When and what was the first Sonic fansite you visited?

I know there's plenty of older folk on here who have been around the Sonic community for awhile (me included), but I was kinda wondering what everyone's first visit to a Sonic community fansite.

Mine was... I want to say around 1998 or so. Would've been around 8 or 9. I first visited Sonic HQ when the website was up. I can't exactly remember how I stumbled across the website in question, but I think I was looking up information on Sonic games, particularly Sonic Adventure, as well as the Sonic OVA at some point. Though my first exposure to more of the community would be around 2000 or 2001 when I started visiting MSN Sonic chat rooms, and joining message boards. Think my first proper community I joined was SoaH. I... left a pretty terrible impression pretty early on and did some really stupid shit. But eh, I was a kid. What do you expect?

    Anyways, what about you guys?

For me it was probably around 98 or 99. Area 51 and Simon Wai's Sonic 2 beta page were my main hang outs.....

Same as the above posts. Started at HQ and branched out to the others from there, as well as CulT. I was lurking for years but didn't start posting anywhere until 2007.

I'm not sure which I first visited (would've been around 1996), but the first I remember actively participating on was Knuxcom (I think Mecha Sally was there with me too, actually).

Yep Sonic HQ for me. Didn't have a lot of internet access until high school though, and I was more hovering around the Zelda fandom at that time. Retro is the first place I actually interacted with the fandom though.

Oh yeah, I remember being on Knuxcom! It was a pretty cool site.

Can't remember the first Sonic site I ever went to cause I visited so many. I know I used to go on Yahoo and go to the directory they had for Sonic fanpages and look at pretty much every single one listed there. The ones I remember the most are the Freedom Fighter Shrine, Artail Productions (now TeamArtail), Sonic 2000 (some fangame that I don't think was ever finished), the Mobian Central Library (formerly Knothole Library?), and various others that I can't remember the names of cause it's been way too long, but I do remember the content they had.

I'm trying to remember exactly how I found the Sonic 2 Beta site, Sonic Cult, and all the sites on hacking/emulation side of the fandom but it's really blurry. I vaguely recall a site called "Mecha Sonic's Lair" or something along those lines which is where I first learned about emulators and ROMs, so that might've been where I learned about those places.

SSRG, and more specifically Area 51. Got into emulation around the time of my GCSE exams in early summer 2001, and joined the board later after coming across the hacking community scene - I still have the sign-up confirmation email from EZBread, dated the 5th of November 2001. =P

When I first started using the internet around 97, and back then there was some fan site directory I used to visit all the time on Angelfire, so really a ton of them. I don't remember which was my first. I remember really liking any site with MIDI collections, though.

Didn't find the hacking scene till the early 2000s.

Edit: Since it was mentioned, I did post on Knuxcom like once, but wasn't active on the message boards till I found SWS2Beta.

My first site was either sonic stadium or sonic cult back in like 04. I was Shadowknux56.

I'm surprised I'm still around if Cult was my first site. What filth.

My first was The Sonic Foundation way back in 98. Looks like it's gone now, but it had links to Sonic HQ at the bottom, and went there. Then I found Sonic Cult, and was scarred for life finding the douijinshi section. First forum I ever joined was SoaH back in 04. Still have a few people from there in my Facebook rolodex, but the site kind of imploded, and found my way here.

I guess the Moogle Cavern counts? I joined that site in 2007, not that long before it closed down. Joined this site in 2008 and didn't really start posting until near the end of the year.

EDIT: Before that I also was on DeviantArt. And I've removed my accounts from there for good reason. :v:

Does fanfiction.net or deviantArt technically count? Those are what got me into Sonic circa like 2002. + - And also a Sonic roleplaying site. Don't judge. I was like 13. :v

Sonic HQ. Sometime in between SA1 and SA2 coming out, and I was about 13 at the time. I must say I'm so glad the forums are dead and gone as I could have probably powered an atomic weapon with the cringe generated by my old posts.
That being said, I found the site pretty good for looking into all the various games I didn't even know existed. Also being from the UK, it was nice reading their section on the Archie comics. After a while though I jumped ship to Sonic Cult and never looked back.

I remember my MIDI collection was crazy big back then, before my internet was good enough to download MP3s. How many midi versions of Live and Learn did I really need? About six billion apparently...

Sonic Foundation was the first community I joined, but the first fansite I found was Shadow of Light (which SoaH was known as at the time).

Sonic United: Around 2004-2005 or so for Sonic 3 cheat codes. Ended up then going to Secrets of Sonic Team and Simon Wai's Sonic 2 Beta for prototype info. I was pretty fascinated by all of it.

Some random geocities site in Summer 2001. I kept the link:

  17. When I was homeschooled (1996-2008) my first ever Sonic site was "Sonic Fan Games HQ". Downloaded a crud ton of fan games. The one fan site that stood out for me was this one site called Super Sonic Sunshine(?). It had a white background and yellow boxes. Also, Portal Sonic and (separate site) Portal Mario.

I found Simon Wai's Sonic 2 Beta Page whilst browsing the web one after school computer session in Year 7 of Secondary School. Through the links there I soon found SSRG and Area 51.
I only every browsed, though did register an account on the old Wai boards, and just lurked with it.

It was around 99-00, so I must have been 11/12 at the time haha!

Wow, I'm such a newb compared to some here. I had been lurking Sonic Cult for a couple of months before Knuckles in Sonic 1 by Stealth dropped (can't remember when that was. 2005 or some shit?). Glad I caught that, renewed my interest a bit in the game.

Signed up at the 'old' (pre S2Beta merger) Sonic Retro in 2007 sometime as I became interested in Sonic hacking.
