I'd have to say the consoles the games were released for. But mainly the Gamecube/Wii. Since a majority of my Sonic games are on that, it's what I got used to.

With the newer Gen consoles though, probably the PS3. Probably because I'm more used to the controller layout than with my 360.

The Wii, right now. Have Sonic 2, 3, & Knuckles downloaded on it.

Will probably get Sonic 4 for it just for completion's sake. Otherwise, 360.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
...I can't stand playing Sonic on the 360, but that's probably because of the controller. Granted, the emulation isn't all that great, either, but I could deal with that were I provided a choice that includes more than a crappy d-pad and an analog stick that's actually a better d-pad than the d-pad itself.

I can still play it, and play it well, but it feels awkward and for some reason I prefer the Wii version's sharper display.

  4. Its a damn shame the PS3 doesn't have a retro store. If it did, I would love to play the classics on it. The PS3 has by far the best D-pad of all the current-gen consoles, maybe the Wii's is equal, but I still find the PS3's easier to use.

The good old Genesis+32X+CD. Playing Sonic on any other console just doesn't seem right. I've played the Sonic series on Sonic Mega Collection for PS2, but I didn't like the feel of it.

My preference is always the original hardware. The advantages of emulation are great, but often enough there will be minor inaccuracies which annoy me.

Even with Kega Fusion? What sort of thing? I'm not saying this just to be argumentative; I'm actually interested! Also, I only recently learned of ReGen, which claims to focus on accuracy above everything else; maybe it's worth giving a try.

    Nice, simple controller.

Hardware is decent, despite the laggy two player Sonic 2.

Are you on about the sound?

You know there are differences in sound when comparing the MK1 and MK2 Megadrive because of the changes to the mixing circuit. I think Kega emulation is really good. And I cannot hear anything out of character to the original MK1 hardware.

Though I am interested to find out what inaccuracies you can spot out.

I have to say my Genesis, because it's original. Plus since it's not emulated, sound effects and the music sound accurate, and more enjoyable. Plus I can use my headphones and hear the music in quality stereo sound. :v:

Wii. Because I can play a good majority of the games on it.

I prefer playing the pre-Dreamcast games on my PC. Personally, I hate the NTSC filter that was used on the older consoles and I love seeing the graphics ultra sharp. That, and using the PS3 controller for my PC is pretty much perfect for 2D gaming.

Genesis, since I played with that for years and years. PSP is okay, except when I have to use the nub for Sonic CD's Special Zones. Wii is good too, not complaints. PS2 is decent. The 360's piece-of-shit D-Pad hurts my thumb if I play too long. I only played Sonic 1 on Dreamcast once at my then-friend's house. Most of the time I find myself playing it on a PC, at least these days.

Mega Drive for the full-fat experience, but when I can't be bothered to turn it on, my PC with an old controller I bought about 11 years ago that kinda re-creates the MD experience (more accurately than a 360 controller anyway, plus my original pads never worked properly so I had a 3rd party pad with all 6 buttons):

Regarding controllers, I find that Saitek's P220 does a fair job approximating the MD's pad (triggers as Mode and Start), and also the Saturn's (throttle as Start):

Saturn. Sonic Jam will always be the definitive Sonic compilation- surely I'm not the only one who realizes this? Not to mention the Saturn's incomprehensibly sexy controller, and having easy access to the superior version of S3DB is always a treat.

Or, you know, a PC with a convincing USB replica of a Saturn controller. Pretty hard to beat that.

Hell yeah. I have that exact controller. It's a cheap-ass controller, but I'll be damned if it doesn't do the job alright. I've had it for like, six years, too.

Right now, definitely the Wii, with all the homebrew capabilities as well as the GC backwards compatibility.

I used the Saitek P880 for many years and I think the d-pad is absolute shit.
