Would it be possible to build on top of that demo engine that SANiK made? With permission pf course, or wouldn't it be worth it?

I'm not too good with programing although I am learning (Pascal and Delphi unfortunately) so I'm afraid im not much use in that department.

A good Homebrew Psp sonic game would be good though... *hint hint*

Or Game maker fish eye lens :P http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtop...09567&st=20

He released the C++ source, I have it, but it is also on the PSP homebrew site that he uploaded it to.

Er, it'd most likely be better to build a new engine from scratch. Something tells me Mario Bros and Sonic Xtreme had extremely different ways of handling everything at their core :D

That said, SaNiK only made the demo to show people in the PSP community that, with effort, you can make something that doesn't suck. He made it in 6 days. The only part of his code that he's made available is his reflex lens so I'm pretty sure he's a-ok with people using it.

That said, I'm pretty sure Tweaker is gonna be pissed when he sees us talking about a homebrew Xtreme so I think we should tread away from this topic.

Are we not allowed to discuss homebrew? Or do people really care about this dead game?

    Internet.
More the fact that Tweaker goes off the deep end anytime someone goes off topic.

Someone needs to make a playable version of these levels and all the other footage we have. With all these other projects that keep rising up -- why not try to create sonic xtreme? (as in, not make up levels, but recreate the ones we can see in the videos as best as possible)

Chris Senn himself is actually working on a community project to reconstruct and create a sort of Sonic Xtreme with Project-S. Besides that numerous individuals have tried the same, however none of these projects have come to fruitation quite yet.

If you go to Chris Senn's boards at senntient.com you can learn more on that.

Well Project-S isn't going to be a Sonic X-treme remake, they are just creating a Sonic game with some elements of X-treme if that makes sense. Remaking X-treme was the original idea but I think the Project-S team changed their minds after a while.

I think the best way to "remake" sonic x-treme would be to follow it through it's develpment cycle.

    E.g

The first few levels have the style of the version that used the nights engine.
Then it gradually moves onto the footage shown at E3 96
and finishes up with the most recent PC version style game play.

This way everyone will be happy as it will have every version that was developed for sonic x-treme. It would also allow use to use alot more of the content that has already been made.

I don't know why but when I talk about Sonic Xtreme it is like... It is near but rounded with a glass wall... It is really strange... I think in the future we will have a topic "Sonic Xtreme engine leaked"...

Personally, I'd like to see SEGA recycle the fisheye Sonic idea for XBLA/PSN/Wii Shop Channel or some such. That would be a nice gesture.

Either you have managed to get Ofer to release it, and then somehow developed a way of running it without dedicated hardware (a certain rather old 3D accelerator containing an NV1), or got the slow, shoddy Saturn port by Point Of View (which psychobob screwed up ever getting, unless he never actually said what they told him back.... someone clever and not a tool want to look into that?), it won't happen.

Even if we did get the PC version, it shouldn't be too hard writing a wrapper, or at the bare minimum the source would be valuable.

Eh. I never really liked the idea , but that's just me
Although seeing an X-treme esque game on the online marketplaces would indeed be a nice gesture

It would be, but I think just like Sonic 3d Blast the engine might be better in another game or type of gameplay other than high speed platforming.

They should definitevely try to do something about Xtreme now; use it on some game or release it posthumously or something else. But they need to use it!

The recent 3D Games could take some notes from these two videos alone! I mean, Sonic can actually walk around =O
