He vanished the day he got demoted from his mod position on CulT. I wonder if he went on his word and became a hoarder?

Oh man, if drx starts hoarding, that would be a disaster for the community.

Well this is fucking fantastic. Not only did we lose our best source for buying protos, if someone were to try to step up to take drx's place we're going to be bidding against him. The most I can hope for is that he doesn't hold a grudge. If he chose to, he could easily badmouth the sonic community to the any of our potential sellers or try to shut us out from any proto that may be available.

If anyone is willing and able to pick up where drx left off, please speak up. I have to believe that if no one does, then we'll be hard pressed to find anything more than what we already have.

I think you guys are jumping to conclusions.

Inactivity =/= hoarding.

But given the amount of criticism he's been getting from some people (wether or not he brought it on himself, doesn't really matter), I'm not suprised he's been away.

But either way, DRX being gone =/= lost ability to gain protos. If the rest of us would get of our lazy asses and do what he did/does, we wouldn't be dependant on one guy. The only thing he did was organise us to be able to raise funds. I think the rest of us can do the same thing if we get our act together.

The community's activty is NOT dependant on one guy. Don't lose hope because one person is not around to bear gifts.

 

Yeah but if he doesn't get his donations then he wouldn't be able to buy some of the expensive stuff anyway, so anyone taking his place and getting donations could stand a chance of outbidding. Anyway, I think everyone is worrying over nothing. A lot of people become unactive for different reasons. No need to jump to conclusions.

 

Also, on a slightly unrelated note, his forum is full of spam because of his insta-registration form, he needs to come back and add a capcha script to it.

 

For those who don't regularly frequent the IRC at this time of day, drx says he's been absent because he's been in the hospital. Since that's hopefully been settled, now we can dismiss the trivial paranoia about him becoming a hoarder and go back to the trivial paranoia of him stealing money.

And on two related notes:

1) I never said that the community is dependant on one guy, I just tried to say that in my (granted short) time here, I've never seen anyone do the work that drx does. If he were to leave, I've seen little evidence that anyone would take his place.

2) Unless you have donated money to drx and somehow feel that he's abusing your donations, you don't have much room to talk. Like I've said before, I've put a good amount of my money toward this, and I do not feel it has been abused. You can debate business ethics as much as you want, but unless you've actually put your money at stake, then it seems unnecessary. I don't want to see someone fight a battle for me, especially if I don't agree with it.

I don't want to seem like an asshole, but a good amount of people who aren't directly involved are attacking drx for something that doesn't concern them. To me, it seems like that type of thing should be left to the people who have given their money up. If you don't want to donate, then don't donate. Otherwise I just really would love to see this shit put to rest.


These are opinions, not a half-assed attempt to regulate board activity.
