This topic is silly.

It's illogical to assume X-Treme would be a disaster because the truth is, it was never released. Very few people have played a demo of it, so we can't really draw many conclusions. Aside from that, no one has ever played the game at it's closest form of completion. Basically, its impossible to determine to how the game would've performed quality wise and retail wise to SM64.

And for all you haters, SM64 was a truly revolutionary title at the time. Say what you will, in 1996 that was groundbreaking stuff. While there were many 3D games prior to it, SM64 was the first platformer to get the control scheme right. It housed a variety of levels and set the standard for 3D platforming games. It WAS a great game that had the potential to bring Nintendo to the top, if they weren't so in love with the cartridge format. All in all, 3D gaming owes a great debt to SM64.

X-Treme if it had been released probably wouldn't have aped SM64 or NiGHTS, but it would've garnered some attention. Especially to those who owned Saturns.
