Sonic X Shadow Generations thread, movie level out now

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by charcoal, Jan 29, 2024.

  1. Could you imagine if right before the final boss, a new level popped up, and it was The Doom/Lost Impact? And you're carrying Maria through the stage while listening to that soft piano theme? That'd be so awesome, there's no way in hell they'd do it.

They've already revealed 3 zones (4 if we count Radical Highway separately). I would be surprised if they just showed every zone they have to offer 4 and a half months before release. There's gonna be the Nintendo Direct tomorrow, the anniversary next week (Sonic Central?), Gamescom in August, and whatever other event that comes up.

If the game was that short, they would've tried to keep Kingdom Valley hidden for later.

Edit: Also, if you look up Sonic Generations longplay on YouTube, the completion times range anywhere from 2 hrs 23 mins to 5 hrs 20 mins. I would say the average is around 3.5 hours. But most of these are probably not first playthroughs (certainly not the sub 3 hours ones), so I imagine the average for first playthroughs would be closer to 4.5 hours.

Of course Iizuka could be taking this from a different angle, in that Shadow Generations doesn't have as many stages as Sonic Generations, and that wouldn't really be surprising because I don't think anyone was expecting 18 stages, 7 boss fights, and 90 extra missions.

IIRC, the FULL game takes 5-6 to beat. Forces also did 2 hours to finish, but to be fair, it's not even the full game to take that time lol.

I hope we at least get this song in the jukebox, while that stage was annoyingly long that song was absolutely beautiful. I hope they have a lot of unlockables in the shadow side of things like concept art, music, etc just like base generations had.

While we're talkin' about additional unlockable songs, I think Speed Highway: At Dawn definitely needs to be added somewhere. Absolutely criminal that original Sonic Generations didn't include that anywhere, not being remixed in the Speed Highway levels themselves is bad enough, but not even the original rendition as an unlockable track? Unacceptable! :colbert:

+ - I'm totally not biased on this particular track, not like it's my favourite track in Sonic Adventure 1 or anything... :V

According to the Japanese Sonic Twitter account, the PS4/5 pre-order bonus includes a longer version of the Dark Beginnings animation

Well that's moronic. I suppose the silver lining is it'll be source quality, so we'll have a version of the animation that isn't butchered by YouTube's compression algorithm.

this is one of those things thats just super weird but wont matter cause it'll be uploaded online regardless, soooooooo

wouldnt be shocked if sony paid them to have some sort of exclusivity in the package and sega didnt want to bother gating ACTUAL content to it

I definitely agree with that being the case. We'd probably blow a fuse if it was a skin or ability. So they took the route that can easily just be uploaded elsewhere. It's sucky, but ultimately not as sucky as it could've been.

  10. Reminds me of that leaked Sega doc from 2009:
    “Sonic Anniversary
Could put out collectors edition with all old sonic games on one BD disc.
“Best of Sonic” for around $99.
SCEA would love PSN exclusive power ups/different game modes (think a mirror mode of levels)”
I wonder if whoever wrote that kept pushing for mirror mode until it finally made its way into the Genesis Classics collection and later Origins.

I'm glad they're actually including these animations in the game itself. I know most people will say it's pointless because "you can just watch it on youtube brah!" but youtube always felt a bit impermanent to me, like they could just remove these uploads for absolutely no reason whatsoever and it'll just be gone. It's like if the Sonic Riders 2D animated intro wasn't actually in the game and you had to look online just to see it.

in other news there's a nintendo direct so I hope we get to see direct footage of the game running on switch. If the switch version looks balls I'll get the game on PS5.

Yes, the lack of any indication on the Switch version's performance is the only thing that's kept me from purchasing it so far - if necessary I'll wait until after launch for confirmation, even if it does mean missing out on that sweet-looking SA1 DC skin. If it runs no worse than the Xbox 360 original, I'd happily pick it up for the chance to have a version I can play on the go, along with the additional Shadow Generations side-game which does look interesting so far.

I thought someone mentioned on here that it was running at 60fps.

    New interview: https://venturebeat.com/games/learn...onic-x-shadow-generations-and-takashi-iizuka/

-Shadow is nearly on par with Sonic for popularity and is their second most popular character.
-Shadow will meet other members of the Sonic cast during his game.
-They don’t have a plan for future remasters. They will go by what people ask for.
-A lot of people don’t ask for Chaotix, so that makes it hard to remaster.
-SegaSonic Arcade wouldn't be too easy for new people to play, so that's unlikely to be remastered either.

Aww... I thought a Chaotix remaster might be a tiny bit more likely after the success of the Knuckles show. But I guess there's no demand.

A chaotix remake, ala Sonic Mania, would probably be way better than a remaster. Take those gorgeous tile sets, build proper momentum-based loop-di-loop levels out of them, ditch the combi ring mechanic, and profit your way to victory.

Honestly at that point, just make a new 2D / 2.5D Knuckles + Chaotix spinoff game...which depending on who makes it would be my GOTY

I maintain that Sonic Origins should have included every 90s game. It's still baffling to me that it's missing the three easily-emulated Genesis games but HAS two of their Game Gear versions, but they should have taken the time to put in Chaotix, R and SegaSonic, along with the already-existing modern Sonic the Fighters port. If it can be a random arcade game in Lost Judgement, it can be in Sonic Origins. I will still pay for another DLC since that would probably come with more updates, fixes and maybe even Ray and Mighty, but it annoys me that they're missing the most obvious chance.

What modern Sonic the Fighters port? It's emulation.

Fuck that noise. SegaSonic is a groovy little game in its own right that can be handled just fine with analog sticks so long as you communicate what its deal is. You could either go the route of redrawn graphics in a style that's somewhere between the original game and Yui Karasuno's works, or you could go for a toybox vibe like the Link's Awakening remake - either would be fairly economic and would let this game be sold at a competitive price point that could really thrive on something like the Switch. SegaSonic deserves so much more than being stranded in Japan and languishing in obscurity for being a little different and maybe not instantly intuitive in the modern landscape.
