Okay. First off, I'm glad to announce that I have returned to good ol' S2B as a civilized member of the Sonic community. Thanks to all the people who helped after seeing the improvement in my behavior, you know who you are. I apologize for all the crap I brought here 4 years ago. So anyways, what better way to prove myself as a member than waste one of my 30 Trial posts showing off my new half-assed hack? Introducing Sonic the Hedgehog: Ramped, ladies and gentlemen. Sure, it's in some early stages now (the only full zone that is actually near completion in both level layout and pallette is City Heights :F) but be prepared for a release sometime along the way. What I give you today is only a board of pallettes (and retarded level names) that I plan on putting in my hack. Be aware that tenative pallettes may not be in the final hack.

So, what the fuck is Sonic the Hedgehog: Ramped? Okay, here's how it goes. Once upon a time, I was bored and felt like hacking Sonic 1, and so I did. Keep in mind that this came before I knew that you needed a clean rom to use ASM and SonED 2. It's not going to be anything fancy, but if it is released as a full hack, here's what I'm promising you:
    • Decent pallettes.
      [*]Decent, high-speed level layouts.
[*]Any good chunks of hex that I feel will have a nice effect on the game.
[*]Perhaps, some very minor art edits (or major, depending on on how far I feel like going with TLP)
      [*]End-of-Level 'Ramp' System
^ This is where the whole "Ramped" thing comes from. At the end of most levels (as of now, with the exception of Bosses, Labyrinth and Marble) you will notice a ramp. You will either have to gain enough speed on your own or find a hidden spring somewhere to make your way up the ramp. The higher up you go, the more bonus points you will aquire. If you find 50 rings, there will be a Special Stage ring at the very top. This is my first hack, and as you can see, it is still in early stages. I will only release the finished version, with little or no periodic updates to avoid looking like a fucktard, especially since this is a very minor hack. So, stay tuned for more info, or just ignore it until it's complete. It's not like it really makes a difference. =P You want screenshots, you got 'em. As of now, the most helpful thing you can do is say "FIX IT FIX IT FIX IT" to the level names and pallettes you dislike (the current problem I find is that there is WAY too much green in each level). That is all.

...Lol. What an unnecessarily long post.

I have only one thing to say.

    Tentative*.

Furthermore, the only pallette I don't like is the one you do not deem "tentative."

Crap, I knew I would make a spelling error. XD Sorry about City Heights, but I really like the more bubbly theme, and as you can see, it's the only pallette so far that isn't exactly dark - another problem I'm finding with these.

Yeah, Amazon Furnace is dark. Just brighten up the hue values and it should look nice. :)

And for being a "A Boy and His Blob" fanboy, the Metro Park buildings look a lot like the building from ABAHB. :P But yeah, nice pallete for it anyways.

Not bad looking! I remember the City Heights picture well, but the others are new to me. Hope to see more layouts from you soon as well. ;P

Good job, though. I'm liking what I see, and the ramp concept is pretty cool. I may even help you remove the limit on speed so you can concentrate on that when it comes to your layouts. :)

I've got to say, that Pipeline has one of the best pallettes I've seen for Labyrinth. Nice stuff.

City Heights pallete is definitley good, the others could use work. You certaintly didnt hold back on the presentation :P

At any rate, welcome back I suppose. We all know people are capable of changing, so we'll see how it goes, eh?

Botnik Marsh and Amazon Furnace are WAY too dark. I'd suggest some more browns in BMZ instead of the blacks (maybe slightly dull some of the greens as well), and brighten everything in AFZ.

I like the ideas reflected through your palettes. They fit incredibly well. Keep it up!

Nice one on City Heights. As well as pipeline zone.

Those look nice (specially City Heights), but a bit of graphic-altering would be a good addition.

Well, Those palettes are OK at best... here are my opinions on what you could do to make them better

    City Heights: Leave as is

Metro Park: I like the purple color for SLZ but having the sky dark blue will conflict with other palettes in the Zone, also, the Foreground pallete needs to be lightened maybe make it a more lavender or purpley-blue color

Pipeline: I like the greenish tiles for LZ but the brown water is too brown. If you want dirty water in your hack, lighten the browns up a bit and it'll look better

Botnik Marsh: This is a new idea for GHZ, usually people have sunset hill or whatever, and it is a good concept but Make the water a little less dark green and a little more olive green, make the sky light grey and lighten up the foreground a bit

Amazon Furnace: This level could use a total palette overhaul. although the pallete is nice, Im getting the feeling that you want this to be a dark evil looking zone. So here's what you do. Get rid of the night sky, as there are already too many night skies in the hack, and replace it with a fiery looking sunset palette.. also, change the grey foreground and mountains to have a red tint and lighten it up a bit... then change the grass to make it more brownish and dead looking

attached is an example botnik marsh I did in ChaosaXpal. (ignore the blue clouds because I took the screen at the very start of the zone)

There must be other ways to fix it (if needed) other than making a two-color Atari-style level.

    NEW SHIT

    Quoted from SSMB. :F

Yeah... remember when I told you I wouldn't bump this topic up with nearly meaningless updates? I lied. D: Couple new screens with updated pallettes and sprites, going a wee bit further into detail. Sorry about the bump, but SSRG is down and since I have yet to show you all the glory of the slightly-less-gay screens, here I am, showing them to you. They want me to make a playable demo of City Heights Zone over at SSMB, but I think it's still a little too early, and I'd rather release everything in full.

    *-1 Trial Post*

    I guess it's worth it, though. Took some of the advice I got from you guys on Botnik Marsh and Marble Zone, and it worked like a charm. Now there's just the issue of the custom sprites and level design... ^^;

Why are ppl critisizing his palettes? They're awesome.
Amazon furnace foreground & bg-trees should just be a little brighter, as well as the grey foreground squares in botnik marsh. Everything else looks good to me.

I love your dark levels, top atmosphere. City heights palette looks great too.

Edit: just noticed your 'list of levels' link.
Really love 'boiler hill'. That's HOT in both meanings of the word.

Mine? Because they stunk. =P I want constructive criticism against my pallettes, so that I know what to improve on. That's one of the reasons I decided to show my hack off in the condition it is currently in. According to your feedback, it still needs work anyway. Criticism is like food for the right (?) side of my brain. After enough criticism, I can ultimately turn shit into gold, as far as my artistic, hacking, and musical skills go.
