    Oh my god, I've always wanted to see full size Endless Mines, it looks amazing! Good job. Also, I hope you're keeping the original Endless Mines music, it's one of my favorite songs =P

    That's one of the songs I liked from the original. I'll probably spice it up a bit, though.

    Sonic 1 / 2 / 3, S&K -> Sonic CD
    GHZ, EHZ, AIZ, MHZ -> PPZ
    MZ, ARZ, MGZ, --- -> R2
    SYZ, CNZ, CNZ, --- -> CCZ
    LZ, ARZ, HCZ, --- -> TTZ
    QQZ is more like a mix of ALL levels. MZ, SBZ, MCZ, HPZs (2/S&K) ...
    SLZ, CPZ(!), ---, --- -> SSZ
    SBZ, MZ, ---. DEZ&FBZ -> BOTH WWZ and MMZ


    So, in Sonic 1 all levels are implemented.
    Sonic 2 - Unused Hill Top (it's reused EHZ, putting down), Sky Chase and Wing Fortress (do not fit), and Death Egg (just a boss level)
    Sonic 3 - Unused Ice Cap (there seems to be NO iced levels in SCD) and Launch Base.
    Sonic & Knuckles - Unused Sandopolis (possibly 9TH yet more hidden desert SCD zone???), Sky Sanctuary (does not fit) and The Doomsday (a boss level)

    So, it's 99% chance that R2 is a MZ-ruin like zone
    (and 1% that there were 9, not 8 zones in development. Also mentioning volcanoes in TTZ)

    Eh, considering S2 for how Sonic CD's missing 8th Round was seems rather inefficient. They were developed by different teams, each sitting on the other side of the globe. Both went very different directions in basically everything. The style of the graphics, level progression, spindash, level design, overall feel, number of Zones/Acts per Round/Zone...
    The similarities merely come from how both SCD and S2 developed from Sonic 1, just in different directions. And SCD's entity was so wholly different and unique that I doubt the development team would have been any influenced by the earlier-released final Sonic 2.
    S3K is entirely irrelevant , as it was made a year after SCD.

    ...I really hope drx' magic proto-powers can find us an earlier Sonic CD beta someday. D:

    Also to stay on-topic. I really look forward to this hack, it looks quite interesting. :o

    Wow. I just noticed this project just now. Shows how much I've been around lately huh? I debated doing this very thing myself earlier this year but never got around to it. Now I'm glad I didn't. It would have been all for naught! I definitely can't wait to see what you create from this. It looks pretty good so far. My only criticism is the background of Desert Palace. It looks a bit too pixelated in my opinion. Is there any way to smooth it out or is it just a rough draft so far that you'll refine later?

    Will do, nineko =) The more help I get, the more quickly I can finish this and the more likely it will be to be completed within the next two years =P

    You're probably referring to the sand, right? That's temporary =) I don't want to give away too much, but the bg for act 1 is different than act 2 and act 2's is different from act 3's in this level. Desert Palace is my "show" level as it's the most worked on and furthest along, so you can be guaranteed that, even now, it's more polished than in those pictures.

    From now on, feel free to use my tilemaps from S2 8bit in order to import the lever art and blocks to your Scrambled Egg zone port.

    This also applies to anybody else wanting to use S2 8bit level art/layout.

    At this point I've polished things up enough to make a proof of concept. I realize that there are collision errors and foreground / background issues. There's big problems in Azure Lake with the loops and some collision stuff, palette, etc. This is mainly for ideas, feedback, etc. to let me know what you think thus far with the actual concept and what suggestions you may have. Here's the translations between levels (level select code is unchanged):

    EHZ == Desert palace
    ARZ == Azure lake
    CNZ == speed slider
    MCZ == Chrome gadget
    HTZ == HPZ == Endless Mine

    To go to another level, within the level press a + start SIMULTANEOUSLY and it will redirect you to the level select. It may take a few tries as this is just something I use to quickly reset the game if I wind up in a bottomless pit or whatnot =P

    Anyway, feedback is very much appreciated. Ideas, things you'd like to see, suggestions, criticism, conjecture -- you name it!! Happy Contest Results Day =)

    It's not old anymore, I'm still working on the hack =P I'd like to put the featured badnik in. I always figured he was something like underground zone's boss in s2gg =)

    Just because it's New Year's and I'm fucked off my ass, here's a picture of Crystal Egg Zone that I've been working on. The art has been ported and I think I've got the "see through" aspect working well enough. Thoughts? Let me know =P

    If you can keep the crystal blocks the same size but fix up those lines so they don't look so pixelated, it'll look much cleaner. Otherwise, looks good very good.

    So, playing that beta, I didn't get past the first act; I quit after two game overs.

    The upper route appears to contain a leap of faith, but I always plunge all the way down into a bottomless pit.

    On the lowest route, there appear to be some small invisible platforms. I keep dying because Sonic will touch down on such a platform in midair and start running before he lands on the intended platform.

    That would be nice if I could make it a bit less pixelated. I'll try and do that. I was thinking that, too. I'll probably work on that tomorrow when I'm not completely fucked up.
