I don't think it's going to open bigger than Sonic 2, domestically. During that period, Kraven, a LotR spinoff, Mufasa, Babygirl, Homestead, Nosferatu (2024), A Complete Unknown will all be seeing theatrical releases. Obviously, a mass majority of people going to see Nosferatu were never going to see Sonic 3, but those movies are still taking up potential auditoriums and seats away from Sonic 3. Thhe amount it could gross is going to get capped hard.

When Sonic 2 came out, its only real competition that week was Ambulance. Ambulance and Morbius were flops and The Batman was in its 6th week by that point. Sonic 2 grossed $72 million on a pretty light week.

Releasing during Christmas will be good for its legs though. There's practically nothing in January 2025 so it should enjoy repeat viewings and better holds than Sonic 2 did.

The biggest flops in recent history have also all been Disney movies, if I remember correctly. I doubt Mufasa will be much of an actual threat. It's a movie nobody was really clamoring for.

You can say the same thing about the remake, and it made 2+ billion dollars.

To put into context it’s success vs. the Sonic movies, if Mufasa matched the BO of the first 2 Sonic movies (Between 300-400 million dollars, I believe), I would have to make less than 1/4 of the Lion King remake’s box office. I highly doubt that only 1/4 of the audience who saw the remake will be the only attendees in the theater for Mufasa, especially with new children being born every day.

Well, people on Twitter are lurking us, and now some of them are assuming the movie will be delayed based on previous discussion / informations...

I'd love to know how on Earth they came to that conclusion. Did they stop reading after the first post of this "discussion"?

This is starting to remind me of when people were literally having fucking aneurysms over the No Way Home trailer. Marketing cycles are different for every movie. Paramount will start it when they feel it's time.

Anyways, I don't regret theorizing if they might be considering moving to release date slightly to avoid coming out on the same day as the prequel to a movie that made 1.7 billion dollars. It was an innocent question that didn't deserve the crash out response it got.

I didn't expect it to become a enough deal for Tyson Heese to feel the need to chime in his theories and two cents either, but I understand he just wanted to calm people down who've been wondering if there's bigger issues afoot that caused the rollout to happen as it happened.

It is what it is. I'm sure they have something special planned and we just have to wait and see how it plays out.

  11. It has seeped into the real world as well. I had to go to pick up some stuff at a pet store yesterday, and chose to hit up one a good buddy of mine works at 'cause I hadn't seen him in a while, and one of the first things he asked me was, "Are they delaying Sonic 3?"

Nah dude. Just Internet people bein' Internet people.

It took me 5 minutes to pull a list and see Paramount doesn't put out trailers that far in advance. I wish others would just do the same instead of just blindly speculate or shoot from the hip. The internet and its vast resources is available at our fingertips. It doesn't take much to be informed.

Honestly, I'm less surprised at the lack of the trailer and way more surprised at the lack of even a single poster.

Hey Twitter, my uncle works at Paramount and I personally watched him melt the trailer negatives with his bile. Craziest shit I've ever seen.

I know Sonic isn't known for patience, but I really didn't think Sonic fans needed marketing for a film they're clearly hyped for so early.

You'll get your damn Sonic 3 Movie marketing after Sonic x Shadow Generations comes out.

ig that's kind of inevitable when screencaps of a conversation get posted somewhere else out of context. I did like having a smaller forum like this to chat but those days might be over for me. :psyduck:

The marketing and trailer time span doesn’t surprise me. Toys getting released early surprises me. Is it true some are not allowed to be purchased even though they’re on shelves?

The action figures for the latest Ghostbusters were found for sale at a local store somewhere...before they were officially revealed and available online like a month later.

This always surprises me because it’s actually something that can be blocked from shipping. I mean it’s feasible to keep it from happening. Unlike like other leaks that just require a post to be spread.
