Grinding looks like it's a power? Also, 8 slots on the wheel, not just 7.

 

Yeah, this got me a little confused. Did look like the player had to activate grinding and, when they didn't, the vine reverted back to normal physics.

 

It looked more like you just stop grinding when you reach a low enough speed, and when you reach a certain speed threshold you start grinding again. The emerald Powers seem to give Sonic some sort of visual effect, like a blue glow.

E: now that I rewatch, I genuinely cannot tell.

 

I re-watched the clip and I see what y’all are talking about. I can’t tell if grinding is a power, if the vine detection is odd, or if u have to hit a certain speed to grind

Sonic lands on the vine, there's dust behind him, and he boosts up the vine

So Drop Dash confirmed.

 

I'm kind of struggling to imagine what sort of level design would benefit from the toggling of grinding as an ability. I mean, you could gate off areas with things like that corkscrew there, but that seems pretty lame, equivalent to just having a door that only opens with the right Emerald.

Wonder if the 8th slot is Super.

When Sonic jumps off the corner of the vine, he actually leaps off at an angle like he should instead of the Sonic 4 "what are physics" jumps, so hey.

 

The power made clearer. I'm guessing the one on the bottom is the Sonic zerg rush and the one on the top right is the waterfall ability.

So false alarm, grinding is not a power. @jubbalub's got it, I think: go fast enough and you grind

 

Wow, I did not expect that we'd get additional information this soon, this is wonderful. We can get the M-word answered THIS WEEKEND and move on with our lives!

Also, how important was the scoreboard? I literally never looked at it for anything significant ever in my history of playing classic Sonic. Secondly, I really need to see an HD version of that game intro, it looks awesome. Looks like we'll see animations of the Chaos Emerald powers in action.

 

Call me a fanboy but I'm hyped.

 

Also, no life counter! If Forces, Mania Plus, and Frontiers didn't make certain enough, I think this will.

Hesse and the team are feeling more and more anime-styled with each new animation work and I dig it.

So it's a robot, not an animal.

 

That intro really doesn't have the smooth flow or bouncy life of the Mania intro but it looks fine. I like the new character though, I wonder what his story is.

 

What gives off that its a guy? Honestly we're due for a woman villain in the classic story world.
