At this point, names like SA3 or S5 mean nothing about the games that actually come about. We all learned that lesson the hard way with Sonic 4 (which funnily enough struggled to keep much consistency between it's two halves). That said, I would like to see games that follow, develop and improve upon the design philosophies of the Adventures (and '06) and the Classics.

I've been really expecting something Classic themed until recently. Now I'm just not sure. Classic still seems most likely, but the Adventure stuff is interesting too.

I know you said you weren't going to respond, but I'll say that I see your point and I was needlessly bitter. I just don't want this hypothetical SA3 to be like 2 where you mostly play as Tails and Knuckles and it's not very fun to play as those characters. If it's actually spectacular, great. Because it shows that Sonic Team sees what's wrong with SA2 and doesn't make it boring and tedious.

The fact that SA1 and SA2 haven't aged gracefully will be a boon to a Sonic Adventure 3. The name will obviously be a hang-up to the petty, but hypothetically, if Sonic Team refined Generations formula with more branching paths, and a half-decent attempt at plot and threw the name SA3 on it, there would be no objective need to complain. It would be a good game that would certainly hold up better than its predecessors.

Sonic Team has proven it can now consistently create sound gameplay mechanics from game to game (even Sonic Lost World, despite its flaws in design, is not a mess mechanically). As long as that remains unchanged, IF this is SA3 (which I feel VERY confident it is at this point), it will, by default, be a better game than SA1 or 2 and I will be appeased.

If it's SA3, I'll only be disappointed if it doesn't have a Chao Garden.

After all, that's the only reason I play the first two games nowadays. :v:

inb4 it's SA3, a beautiful game, but everyone shits on it because of the underdeveloped/unfinished CHAO GARDEN.

One could say we learned the hard way earlier with Sonic the Hedgehog*. :specialed:

+ - *(2006 video game, not to be confused with the 1991 original.)

I do agree with this though. I'd rather they make a game that's more of a spiritual successor of the Adventure titles more than a direct sequel. Unleashed almost got it right IMO, it's just that the gameplay (both day and night) went for a different direction.

That said, I'm still hoping for a proper Genesis Sonic sequel more than anything else. An outsourced (as in it's not by Sonic Team) proper Genesis Sonic sequel, that is.

Does anyone still doubt we're getting classic Sonic in some way?

    The influx of classic merch.
The sudden classic reskinning of the Twitter and its oddly specific banner.
The teaser video flipping between classic and modern Sonics.
The recent specification of classic Sonic as "pixel Sonic" with no clear explanation.

I think it's pretty safe to say at this point we're getting something involving classic Sonic in the next game.

Or possibly two titles. Modern for consoles, classic for mobile/portable/digital.

I agree with you, it's too much Classic to be nothing.

Ugh, I hope not. If we get both a modern (non-Boom) Sonic game and a classic Sonic game (which is actually what I'm hoping we get this year-individual classic Sonic and modern Sonic entries), I'd rather they're both be console retail titles. Not a fan of the idea that classic Sonic games should be shunted as a low-budget/lesser projects, especially after how that worked out in the context of Sonic 4.

Nintendo can handle having their mainstream Mario games be both individual 2D and 3D entries. In what I would consider an ideal world, the same could be managed for both the Genesis and contemporary halves of the Sonic series.

  10. I know Sonic The Hedgehog 4 gets flak (I love the game series), but I want proper conclusion to the episodic trilogy. There HAS to be something that happened between Episode 2 and Championship.

  11. Championship? What are you referring to?

  12. Sonic The Fighters or Sonic Championship.

  13. When was Fighters considered canon? :v:

  14. Every time I bring up wanting an Episode 3, they say Fighters is canon.

You can think of it as canon, but that's purely a fan thing someone here came up with to fill the gap. It's not in the official sense canon.

  16. Ah cool. Thank you. Back to playing Sonic 4.

Just another random thought, but this is Sonic's Silver anniversary... Silver Adventure 1! Psychicadellic baby, yeah!

Anyway, I'm with most people on this. I think it's going to be Sonic Adventure 3 too. Sonic Heroes 2 I also wouldn't mind. Sonic Generations 2... um, now that I think about it, I'm not so sure. It just means we will be reminiscing in Sonic's early days again (and remember how good Sonic was back then and how bad it became). And also, what would the story entail? No seriously, what? A brand new game in the same style as Generations (so no nostalgia) with brand new levels, then that I wouldn't mind.

I'm cool with a Sonic Adventure 3 as long as I can play as Tails again. Preferably without a mech. :v:

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
I don't even know how to talk about this without having a "what makes a Sonic game an Adventure game??!!??!" discussion again.

I am keeping myself grounded. I just don't have it in me to be let down again. The prominence of all three incarnations of Sonic (the fact that there are three is ridiculous) means there is probably be something for each. The Sonic Team title will be whatever they had in the works since at least Lost World, maybe as far back as Generations if the two team structure is still in place. It will be something unrelated to bringing back any series of games, and be yet another "fresh" take on the series of debatable quality. Fire & Ice is Boom Sonic's game. Classic Sonic is the physical compilation release of the 3DS M2 ports, because it's a retail release of Sonic 1. Again. There will be a nice retrospective video from the marketing team like the 20th, coupled with an announcement of some more toys, clothes, and plushies for every incarnation. :colbert:
