    Oh yeah by the way...
SEGA could afford three Nickelodeon crossovers for Sonic Racing Crossworlds yet not the voices apparently.

Even Gamemill could do this. Come on, man...

It took GameMill until the 3rd Kart entry and 2nd Brawl entry to add VA.

Not giving this game an excuse, but I sure as hell don't want GameMill to get credit either.

Even still, they're able to afford it so SEGA should be able to do so too.

It's not about affording them, considering that Sega has this game dubbed in six different languages with over 1,000 voice lines.

If Nick's own games that are exclusively about Nicktoons take so long to get voice acting, why would Sonic be an exception? Those are the hurdles with these licenses.

Hopefully, like the first Nick All-Stars game, we'll get an update with voice lines.

On one hand, knowing Spongebob is at least the second wave or later, I remain optimistic that the voices just haven't been implemented yet.

On the other hand, the fact that none of the guest characters, Sega or otherwise, have been heard speaking in their trailers has me concerned.

Edit: I think we all might have misinterpreted the quote from this interview:

Would need an expert to verify, but I don't think it's saying there's no dialogue WITH the DLC characters. I think it's saying the DLC characters won't have dialogue at all.

Not to come off as "delusional" but I can swear I hear Miku saying "Hi!" or otherwise something similar alongside her own mouth opening as if she was saying something in this?
I could theorize that SEGA / Sonic characters can have voice clips whereas Third Parties (Viacom) would be silent due to corporate matters.

Until then, that does make this all funny in hindsight until further notice (Sonic Wiki)

Chili Dogs and Emeralds on the tiki background, cool! Maybe a spin dash silhouette too.

Don’t know about you guys but I’m actually very much okay with the piercing howl of SpongeBob’s obnoxious laughter whenever he happens to pass me in a race. Frankly, I’m hoping he does remain unvoiced.

If it's anything like the original Nick All-Star Brawlt, there'll be full VO mods like three days after release. (Frustrating that we'd even NEED to take that route, but it is what it is.)

We shouldn't go down the route of the "mods will fix it" mentality. Mods shouldn't have to exist to fix issues that we're aware of even before a game launches. And, more importantly, mods are limited to PC which isn't how most users play.

I feel like the voices are so integral to the identity of these characters that not being able to afford to include voice acting should have straight up cancelled the crossover deal, but that's just me. I'm not an industry expert but the fact this has happened multiple times with Nickelodeon's IPs in recent games is baffling, and consistently jarring every time it happens.

I honestly don't like the fact the DLC is such a big part of the promotional material nowadays. I'm not too fussed by the free DLC but I'm not keen on the paid DLC being such a big part of the marketing, to such an extent it's even on the promotional key art. The game is three months away and they've already teased two levels and three characters as close to finished. I understand they need to pay people for these crossovers but it feels a bit annoying to me. The DLC is £15 which I guess isn't too much but none of this content is included in the base game. In the 2010s this would have been controversial as disk locked content but I guess nowadays it's par for the course.

I understand they had to deal with the leaks (which is why I think TMNT and Avatar were teased early) but Minecraft was definitely ready to be revealed on the day and I wouldn't be surprised if Spongebob were too seeing as it's had a professional trailer and renders on the keyart. I imagine not things you can't just do knee-jerk.

It's bad enough when all of the characters in a licensed game are mute, but it's even worse when it's only the unfitting licensed characters that are mute in an otherwise Sonic/SEGA game. It definitely should have been a deal breaker.

Oh, I fully agree. It's a consolation prize, not a proper fix or an attempt to at all validate Sega's decision.

I would have been fine if the DLC reps had general gameplay grunts and one or two generic, non-character specific rival lines rather than proper interactions. The fact Sega seemingly couldn't manage that is beyond disappointing.

The more I look at the Crossworlds SpongeBob trailer, the more unappealing it looks. I'm honestly kind of pissed at this because a Sonic and SpongeBob crossover would've genuinely tickled my brain in a positive way but as it stands now, between the utter silence and the way the stage itself looks.

It somehow looks worse than the actual licensed SpongeBob games.

Sonic has a budget, there is no excuse here. DLC or not

Just guessing, but I think it's probably Viacom/Paramount/whoever-owns-the-rights-to-the-voices-specifically that is ultimately to blame. It took until the third Nickelodeon racing game to get voice acting for these characters on their own turf, so it seems that the rights are just highly protected and expensive. Either way, things were probably made difficult for SEGA and they decided not to bite the bullet.
