Sonic Origins Collection - General Thread

Yeah, all I see is a glow from a light source, which could be anything. My brain wants to gun straight for the Master Emerald, but it'd be out back in the chamber, so it's not that.

Better now? I adjusted the contrast and brightness and pasted the in-game tapestry for comparison.

You can see what seems to be a platform on top covering a fraction of the Eggman mech's nose and fingers, Super Sonic's aura, and the Master Emerald's glow.

 

The light source is just the action/splash background that starts before Sonic and Knuckles clash.

I think he means the empty space between Eggman's face and the emerald. Kind of seems more like a mistake than a platform though since it looks flat. Or maybe it's some form of compression?

 

Yeah in all likelihood that'd just be a compression artefact. YouTube's algorithm handles dark colours dreadfully. If we were meant to see a platform, it'd be more apparent, and there were one there that we weren't meant to see, they'd have done a better job hiding it.

It looks like it's either transparent (possibly made of glass/crystal), or black with that ancient text on its side.

The runes get really big, the bottom line fades in from the left, an extra top line fades in from the right, and the aforementioned cutoffs. (Eggman's nose + hand, the Master Emerald rays, the hedgehog flaming aura)
It's way too precise to be a glitch, but doesn't look very intentionally done.

 

Whatever happened, it doesn't look to be intentional.

 

What would a platform even add to this fight though, unless they're planning to entirely rework it? Knuckles goes down like a chump, so I don't see them making the fight easier, and I can't see how adding a platform would make it any harder.

 

Not sure. Perhaps the same higher ups who imposed unlimited lives demanded a platform be put there to allow players to easily avoid Knuckles' spindash?

Or maybe they tweaked Knuckles to be harder, and the platform is used by him to gain altitude? Then he could glide down from the top of the screen.

 

I just see a full hearted attempt at recreating that background tapestry. Possibly not perfect but I don't care to nitpick because it isn't too noticable without it being pointed out. So, I dunno. Maybe there's something there. I doubt it. A lot of it could be compression artefacts as well exasperating it all. Not worth a discussion imo. I could be way off though, I dunno.

 

Ok looking closer from the link provided by @Blue Spikeball , definitely not an artefact. However, I highly doubt it is a platform.

 

Yeah what the heck is that? It's a weird extruded surface. I have no idea what's going on there.

 

Looking at it more closely, that thing seems to be "reflecting" not just the ancient text on the tapestry, but also part of the Eggman mech's hair/crown/horns/whatever, as well as the purple border on top:

I'd say it's either some kind of glass platform or object, or some bizarre goof.

It it's the latter, then perhaps when they made the background for that scene, there was originally something there, but they removed it for some reason and quickly used the clone stamp tool to cover the hole?

 

It's completely baffling. Given the artstyle, if this is indeed an object that's meant to be there, I'd have though it'd be far clearer, especially given several of us couldn't even see it at first.

 

Honestly, looks to me like some sort of compositing error with the background of the scene - maybe an adjustment layer or patch layer that's accidentally been scaled/aligned incorrectly during animation of the scene?

 

IMO if it was something there that they wanted to notice it would be more obvious and a lot more people would have mentioned it by now.

None of the Sonictubers I have followed, who's literal job is to dissect this stuff for views, have noticed a hidden platform. I haven't heard about this on any other site or forum I frequent either.

It's probably literally nothing.

 

Even if it wasn't intentionally put there, you'd think these guys would have noticed it then.

 

I think it just might be a rendering error, lol.

What would they even put in there? It's super small.

 

I don't know, maybe they could have edited the ROM? It's definitely not just the stock retail ROM though.

 

From what little we see of Classic Mode in the trailer, the Green Hill Egg Wrecker's ball is rotating and acting like it would in the Retro Engine ports instead of constantly blinking frames to fake rotation like the Genesis / Mega Drive version. Basically the biggest giveaway that they're just the ports with lives and no additional mechanics plus a 4:3 ratio on top.
