Sonic Mania (Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC...Netflix?)

Exxcept in that shot Sonic was using a different sprite with Mania shading.

 

I wonder if it's going to get a full physical release though. I feel like the plan is get the vinyl with a few selected tracks but the digital version has the full soundtrack.

Honestly I feel like if it ever gets a full physical release it might be Japan only since they always get them just because SOJ has more resources, but this one might be different since (I think) it's not under Wave Master label.

Speaking of the soundtrack, does anyone have any collection of all the songs we've heard so far for download (including the ones that were edited to remove sound effects like Mirage Saloon, Chemical Plant, and Green Hill)? Particularly for the Chemical Plant act 2 song, the version I have plays really quiet on my phone and also runs for 13 minutes, which is a tad excessive.

Youtube ripping can only do so much (that being said when this is available in a proper format, like digitally or on Spotify, I will listen to and support those versions, but for now there are runs to be had :specialed: )

 

They could just do a limited print run following the digital release, and then decide whether to make more copies if the demand is strong enough. That's pretty much what Limited Run Games does with indie titles (and they actually offered to do one for Mania). Yacht Club Games did this with Shovel Knight too IIRC.

That and going how the classic games are still selling to keep churning out ports to gaming and non-gaming devices (including, but not limited to, 2004's Sonic Mega Collection Plus selling 2 million copies in the US alone and still shifting units until 2008) and how quickly Mania's C.E. sold out quickly when it was announced, it's not like giving classic Sonic shelf space is a risky gamble in the first place. Let alone Sonic in general given it is their biggest IP. Remember, they greenlit a retail sequel to Boom: Shattered Crystal of all games, and kept it in production even after Shattered Crystal (along with Rise of Lyric) bombed miserably.

 

EXACTLY my reaction. Glad I'm not alone. I want to hear the full OST so bad. Seriously, Tee, and whoever is mixing this, are gods.

I second this request. For now, we have:

• Title screen
• Main menus
• Green Hill Acts 1 and 2
• Miniboss theme (still didn't find a clean rip version of this)
• Boss theme
• Studiopolis Act 1
• Mirage Saloon Act 2
• Chemical Plant Zone Acts 1 and 2
• Flying Battery Zone Act 1
• Invincibility song
• Power sneakers song

If someone could create a YT playlist with the best known rips of these songs, I can download and upload them. But uhh... is it legal to do so? :P

 

I like the Limited Run Games idea but I'm not too sure about it. Plus I wouldn't use the C.E. as an example of demand since it didn't sell out quickly when it got announced at all because it recently became unavailable on Amazon like 2 days (so 10 months after it got announced) BUT it's still available for preorder in other big name stores.

 

This is proving to be the single most relevant Sonic game since the 90s, so maybe SEGA should start reconsidering making a regular physical release of it.

You could be right, but according to Taxman's post a while back he stated something akin to "Who says that's Sonic Mania running on the second TV screen?" torpedoing the idea that blue spheres is a bonus stage for Mania. 99% sure he was referring to Sonic 3K. Could be wrong however.

 

THEN WHERE IS MY MOTHER EFFING SONIC 4 EPISODE III.......I really don't do well with unresolved cliffhangers. Especially of that magnitude. In fact, it's worse than the SatAM cliffhanger because as far as I'm concerned, Little Planet is still fucked.

Since "MultiQuote" is broken, both are perhaps maybe kind of somewhat acceptable answers.

 

The C.E. actually did sell out quickly when it was announced. The PS4 version sold out in France the moment the Collector's Edition was announced in Europe. It also took top spots in the Best-Sellers / Movers and Shakers lists for the France, the US, and the UK Amazon stores when they were made available in those regions as well.

I'd argue the problem regarding the lack of demand for the C.E. (now) is because it was announced too early; it was revealed and first made available in the US back in September and then made available in Europe in October during last year. The game didn't even have a concrete spring release date at that point, and it was arguably well before the decision to delay the game to August happened. By the time the game releases, it will be nearly a year since the the C.E. was announced, I imagine people that weren't following the game closely have likely forgotten about it. Had the C.E. been kept under wraps up until the original spring release period, or when the pre-order trailer from late May was posted, the demand would likely be more visible / stronger.

 

So, do you think the Mania vinyl will come with a digital download code, so people can put it on their phones via iTunes, or whatever Android users use?

Yeah, I didn't see the original tweet from datadiscs. Just from the Sonic twitter and Linkabel's twitter, which don't mention a download code. My bad.

 

I mentioned a couple of pages ago that exact same thing about them revealing the CE too soon since that kind of stuff usually gets revelated 1 or 2 months before release. I think we're on the same page on everything but the fact that it might be too late in the game for them to release it as a physical copy. I think what people should do is support the digital version as much as they can so if the Mania teams gets another shot at a Sonic game then that game can get a physical release. And who knows, if that sequel or follow up starts with the physical release in mind then they might even get enough resources to release the Mania physical copy as a preorder bonus or a special edition like the how they did Bayonetta for the Wii U.

 

Now if only this applied to our reality...
