3DS version gets really mean around Tropical Coast with the buggy Jaws that hurt you no matter how you attack them, and that's when the levels REALLY start to drag.
Also the 2D levels remind me a whole lot of Death Egg mkII from Sonic 4 Ep. 2, the way they like to make the camera completely flip upside down.

Welp, I broke through the control ceiling, and I've spent about 5 hours today playing. And y'know what? I've actually been having quite a bit of fun.

This was all predicated on finding the Time Trial option and seeing what times would be possible to S-Rank the levels. By giving a specific speed-running challenge, I was like, "Woah, let's try that." And so by running the early levels over and over, I'm FINALLY nearly used to the controls.

Here's the thing, though. I have fun with Sonic 06, too. But only because I played it long enough to learn to get around its bullshit. Now, Lost World is a FAR better game than Sonic 06. But Sonic shouldn't be so complex and convoluted as to REQUIRE 10 hours of playtime before it starts to feel right.

Even Bubsy the Bobcat starts "feeling right" after enduring 10 hours of playtime, I swear.

Must be the brain activating a self-defense mechanism, or something.

I'd also like to show off another playthrough from another guy I'm watching on youtube, Cyberman65 makes great game walkthroughs and I'm pretty sure hes the only 1 whos tackling SLW3DS in HD:

So if you haven't seen what SLW3DS has to offer, this playthrough will give you a good idea.

Apparently people think I'm insane for saying that, unironically, Lava Mountain 2 is my favorite stage in the game.

You know, the one with all the one-hit-kill minecarts everywhere? With the nice music?

    Yeah. That one.

I'm not saying it's an example of great level design or anything. I just like how ridiculous it is since it actually loops back and becomes amusing to try not and die there. Would have made a far better extra level.

I actually enjoy those two grinding levels the most out of the game. Only thing that resembles good level design and is fun. Sure the placement towards the later half of the level requires you to time your jumps a bit more., but I loved playing Lava Mountain Act 2 since it felt great when I could beat that level easily afterwards.

I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but I do really like it. Anything that evokes Donkey Kong Country's minecart levels to that degree is okay in my book.

I'm on the level where you fight the latter three of the Deadly Six. My GOD, that fight against the red one is RIGHT outta New Super Mario Bros. This whole level, moreso than anything else in the game, is WAY too fucking Mario. Especially with 3D World coming out, it just makes Lost World look like a cheap imitation... and that is NEVER what Sonic was, for all the bad games he's been in.

Also, I can't figure out how to actually BEAT red at the end there... and my Wii U locked up as I was trying to figure it out!

Those special blocks near the end you can jump through? Yeah, you're supposed to jump/bounce on them to make them fall onto Zavok.

I thought they were there to help you jump through to the top but nope. You're meant to jump on them. Much like the earlier Zavok fight it introduces a concept that is neither built up to, explained, or used again.

Also, while fighting Zavok on Lava Mountain...

The edges of the screen are safe for you, even if Zavok is on the same side. Get behind him and do a fully charged homing attack. This will get him to do his 2nd phase a lot faster and allow you to bounce attack most, if not all the blocks he was planning to use on you, making the whole battle go by quicker if you use enough blocks afterwards. And yeah, I was totally reminded of NSMB2's final Bowser battle. I thought you had to go to the top to either set off something or fight him there. Well, we all knew what happened there.

    I swear it's Stockholm Syndrome.
I mean, I can't say I ever got to a point where I found Sonic 06 'fun'. But I do recall getting over the disappointment and bad stage design long enough to Silver Medal all the stages.
I guess after a while you just learn to understand the shit you're wading through, and somehow deal with it for the sake of getting your money's worth.
Which is an awful thing to say about a game that's meant to be played for enjoyment, but there ya go.

Thankfully that hasn't happened for me with Lost World. I'm just about feeling some positive emotion on the better stages, and I can happily play the early levels plenty of times over.
On that note. Is the 3DS Lost World worth picking up if I didn't hate Generations 3DS? Keep in mind the choice is between that and Link Between Worlds, so it might be fighting a losing battle there...

  13. Well I'm trading in Lost World towards a Link between Worlds, I could continue to get the red rings but I really don't want to.

I'm not even a huge Zelda fan and I'd recommend a Link Between Worlds over this garbage. I didn't hate Generations 3DS either. Sure it was kinda boring and ugly looking but it's inoffensive. This game on the other hand just does so much wrong. Get the more polished game.

Sonic Generations 3DS was better than this, it was just not polished in the Graphical side of things, mainly polygon-wise.

Yeah for all its faults at least Generations 3DS was pretty consistent and it wasn't anywhere near as cheap as Lost World 3DS. Also speed running was much more fun in that game since the levels didn't drag on for a half hour :argh:

Cheers for the short and sweet answers. I think that settles it then. Zelda wins the purchase by a landslide victory.

Definitely agree about Generations 3DS as well. I can still enjoy playing it even now to shave seconds off my Mushroom Hill times. It doesn't sound like Lost World 3DS is offering any desire to replay it out of anything other than completionist's necessity though.

Just rent it later when it's dirt cheap. You'll play it and be glad you didn't buy the game lol.

I'm so sad I bought the digital version, thus I'm stuck with this crap I don't want to play anymore.

The 3DS version of this game is one of the few Sonic games I can think of that I won't want to play again after I 100% it. Most other ones I go back to sparingly at least, but this one? Can't see it happening.

All this vitriol toward the 3DS version really disappoints me. All I've played is the demo, and Sonic controls and just FEELS so much more natural than he does on the Wii U version. It's a shame the level design goes downhill so harshly.
