It's already not going to since one of those buttons is mapped to the auto spindash (not sure which one)

Not that it matters, while I understand where you're coming from, the buttons aren't lined up in the same way as they were on the genesis anyway, it wouldn't be as comfortable doing what you're describing.

I like you admit to plinking (pianoing) as well. : )

I also like how Sega is helping to encourage time attacks with the check points telling you how close you are to your best time in relation to your previous runs.
Even if they just made A and B both jump, and X spin dash...two buttons for pianoing is better than nothing. Right?

Hmm, I was just wondering about something, can you actually roll when pressing down? It doesn't happen in any of the footage Sega released. And does Classic Sonic actually look up too?
It would be nice if someone who attends Sonic Boom could try this out. I'm just curious how far they replicated the aesthetics, thats all.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
I thought we'd covered this, already. Wasn't it confirmed earlier that both the Down + Jump and a separate Spin Dash button worked for the Spin Dash?

You know, that's actually not a bad idea. Just want a quick burst of speed to get your ass out of a jam? Just tap the spindash button. Want to get up a steep incline? Do it the old fashioned way and rev it up. Not bad, Sonic Team.

And yet, I'm sure some people will bitch about it 'soiling their childhood' or 'tap X to win'. :v:

    Doing absolutely nothing
I'll stick with reving and only use the one button spindash when I feel like it. I have no problems with the new control scheme, it sounds pretty neat to me.

My only worry right now is how well Sonic controls/feels when I actually get to play this game for myself.

I finally caught up on all the new details in this thread. My computer was being repaired the past few weeks so I've been left in the dark on some of the new updates. All the new screen shots and photos look absolutely beautiful. This whole game thus far just looks so visually gorgeous and it's like a dream come true to see the old Genesis levels I loved so much as a kid in a more realistic dream like tangible looking art style. I've always wanted to see what the levels would look like in a more realistic sense and this game does it so well. It's also nice seeing that even though its old level's we've seen and played all our lives they are keeping it fresh with new surprises, obstacles and layouts. Keeps it fun, exciting and new even though its a level we've played and loved since we were children.

So far all the new interviews I've read and magazines have made me even more happy, optimistic and excited for this game. I just knew this game was worked on for at least 2 years. 3 years is even longer than I imagined, this is good news to me because it shows they aren't rushing and are taking extreme care, heart and time into this game. I'm liking the hub worlds they are mentioning, I hope its a mixture between Sonic Adventure's and Unleashed's hub worlds as I love both. The more content the better and its fun to just walk around in the hub worlds, Mystic Ruins will always have a special place in my heart. I'm not all to worried about who the mystery villain is in this story plot because it could be either the Modern or Classic Eggman / Robotnik or some sort of villain who can actually think for him or herself, the sentence makes it sound like this mystery villain is capable of scheming and preplanning to get this time paradox thing to work to his or her own will.

So I don't think its a monster of the week as they are usually just giant ass monsters with no thoughts of schemes and plans and just destroy stuff around them. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that evil scientist looking guy in the background of the Mr Needle Mouse concept art would be awesome to be the mystery villain. I think that guy has some good potential and looks really freaking insane lol. I cannot stop laughing when poking jokes about the villain being Big the Cat, Mighty, Ray and Fang all seeking revenge on Sonic and company. I like that they are giving the spindash two different buttons with two different styles the Sonic Adventure style and the Classic style.

It gives more variety and as stated earlier can help benefit in different situations such as escaping danger with the instant dash or revving up a high incline. I haven't found anything to be upset about with this game, every bit of new news gives me more excitement and enthusiasm for this game. The fears about physics in the beginning have long since been put to rest. I wish I can go to Sonic Boom why oh why is everything cool always in the opposite side of the country for me? I hope theres a Florida one so badly. Have a fun and safe trip to all those here who are going and I am looking forward to seeing new pictures, footage and commentary on the game.

Everyone mentioned how they were unhappy with how the graphics looked and were worried about Modern and Classic Sonic's blurry eyes and the line on Sonic's stomach. I think that its because the game is still in some early stages, after all in Sonic Riders and Unleashed his eyes were black till the very near end polishing of the game. More recent screen shots I've seen had more detail to the eyes and brow area and lacked the line in the middle of the stomach. I think things like that will be fixed near the very end of development so I'm not to worried about it. Whatever graphical issues people may point out I won't be able to catch since I'm not savvy in that department and the game is just so beautiful already as it is I wouldn't notice nor would it derive me from the gameplay.

I personally cannot wait to play both game styles but mostly Classic for obvious reasons. As for art styles and the Chaotix I love both Modern and Classic designs for all characters but prefer and like Classic more so. I just like that more cartoony and closer to the actual animal they are portraying and timeless look the original Japanese designs had. A lot of people dislike the Classic Chaotix designs but I actually like them more. I like Vector looking more like Trogdor lol, in all seriousness I like him looking more like a skinny crocodile with lots of goofy expressions and I liked his blue shoes. I like how he looks when he rolls too, I am not very fond of him being fatter and more built and tough looking the Modern style has. He seems like a different character altogether to me.

He also just reminds me of those tough Italian New Yorker guys, Storm gives me that impression as well for some odd reason lol. Espio is essentially the same in looks from what I can see...I like both designs of him really but I miss his more cocky looking facial attitude and changing colours ability he had in Chaotix. Charmy....when I was younger thought he was annoying as hell in Heroes but now he's grown on me. I like both designs but I like him being a 16 year old more than a hyper active 5 year old. I do however like him being larger, in Chaotix he was just so damn small. But not to stray off topic here, I cannot wait to see new updates on Generations these past few weeks of no new big news is killing me! I really hope Sonic CD gets some love in this game as I think CD is the one that gets the least attention out of all the Main Classic games.

Sonic CD is one of my all time favorites and am looking forward to seeing a 3D HD Stardust Speedway. I'm also hoping Collision Chaos makes it in the game because its my favorite level. Since the game is really oriented on story I can only hope it can possibly be in due to the fact its where Sonic first physically encounters Metal Sonic and where Amy gets kidnapped. A girl can hope and dream right? I'm also hoping that if Generations is released for 3DS that they put the Spin Off games and hand held levels from Advance and Game Gear in that version. I like the fact that other versions of the same game are different in some ways as it adds more variety and fun to the games.

Such as Sonic 2 8 bit and Sonic 2 16 bit, Colours and Colours DS ect. All were based off the same game but with different levels and gimmicks and story to add to it and give more fun and depth. Plus the more levels and content the better, hoping for some unlockable levels and DLC as well. I have a feeling this game is going to be packed with content though especially given the 3 long years of work put into it. I'm wondering how many levels per game / time zone they are going to do.

I'm really excited for this game, like unbelievably. After playing Sonic Unleashed for so long and getting used to how modern Sonic controlled in that game, I just couldn't get a feel for any of Colours' controls, so I'm glad this'll be on the 360. It looks beautiful, and classic Sonic seems to play like his old(regular?)self. I can't wait to run though Green Hill with modern Sonic, it'll be nice to have a 3D Green Hill I can't beat in like 30-something seconds *cough* SA2 Battle *cough* I'm also really curious to see what other Zones they include, there's a few from Sonic 1, lots from Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles I wanna see in there. Here's to hoping that City Escape & Final Rush make it in for the Dreamcast-era levels. It probably sounds odd, but I'm kind of hoping they remake Wave Ocean too, because I really wanna run though it with a Sonic that isn't slower then Blaze :3

I think a legitimate question to ask is, what kind of post-launch DLC can we expect from this game? After what they did with Unleashed, I would hope some additional, perhaps totally original C.Sonic stages could be added. I would love to see some additional, non-recreated classic zones thrown in the mix.

But, an even deeper hope, one that I hope Sega pursues, is to continue Sonic 4 episodes as DLC for Generations. To have the game continued with decent physics and with Sonic Team, not Dimps in the drivers seat... that would just be fantastic. It would be a good move for Sega, too, as it will get more people buying Generations, because it would be essentially two games in one, a product that keeps on giving...

    A man can dream....

I hope that they might throw in downloadable characters into the mix, or perhaps just for shits and gigs the option to play as classic or modern Sonic in the alternate levels (they'd play like they were supposed to play depending on the level, so basically you could do a classic skin for modern Sonic and vice versa). Of course alternate levels would be nice, even the original level layouts recreated would be rather nice.

That's a pretty good idea, hell, they could even release a smaller XBLA/PSN version of Sonic Generations that's only the Sonic 4 levels so people wouldn't have to buy the whole game plus the DLC to get it.

  12. That's a really good idea.

It also prompts the question on why we haven't heard a peep on episode II, aside from it being worked on.

  13. Sad to say that S4:E2 could be the mystery title they have been bugging us about.

If it is, They have better have a damn good reason why it hasn't been shown off yet.

Sad to say. I love how we don't even want Sonic 4 now. We haven't even gotten to the actual bulk of the game yet- we got pissed because they gave us a bad remake, and now this other, prettier remake is taking precedence over actual fresh content that we don't even want. Maybe you guys never wanted it to begin with!

Guess that's what happens when you have a product doing the same thing, but 100x better ;)

I have no problem with new content. I want them to add it here as DLC of some kind, but at least here there's a good template to base that new content on, as opposed to Sonic 4. I would take Generations' engine over the alternative any day.

Funny you say that actually. I would LOVE the Sonic 4 that would have followed in 1995/6 (fuck Chaotix and 3D!). I would have also loved it if there had been just one more Beatles album in 1971. Today however, I simply don't want Sonic 4, more specifically I don't want the Sonic 4 Sega are making, I just don't think they're capable of capturing the magic.

However, say if Sonic 4 had never existed, and Generations turned out to be awesome. We'd have ALOT more faith in them making a Sonic 4 then wouldn't we? In fact, that's what the daft cunts should've done in the first place to test the water and seen what we thought of the classic gameplay, instead of arrogantly assuming they could just make a good Sonic 4 out of nowhere.

From an ideal point of view, I think it would have been perfect had Sonic 4 not even been in development until after Generations was made, then they based the entire game off of the Generations "Classic" Sonic physics, art direction, level design, etc.

It's a bit of a 'chicken and egg' scenario with Sonic 4 and Generations though. Had Sonic 4 not existed (and the fan base hadn't exploded at the disparity between what they thought Sonic 4 would be as opposed to what it was), there wouldn't have been such an emphasis on the return of classic Sonic. At the same time, a bigger budget title like Generations wouldn't have been thought up on the fly after Sonic 4, the pre-production process takes a significant amount of time.

What will be interesting though, is exactly what direction the next installment of Sonic 4 will take, given how Sonic Generations has been received so far.

Hopefully Sonic 5 will learn all the right lessons that need to be learned from both of these titles. Seems optimistic, but eh... I'm feeling optimistic lately.
