Yeah, your right namo, I have no right to pick a fight with somebody at this moment, guess he just got under my skin. trashing the post...

But my point still stands, SOA and SOE didn't follow anything much from SOJ's original canon until SA1-SA2. most of it was just made up stuff to appease western audiances. So we really can't take what is said in the US-UK manuals seriously like the name "mega-mack" and what the purple water does as it was told in the US-UK manuals unless your that die hard about it, then pretty much nothing is going to change your mind.

Or am I just talking out of my ass and in the japanese sonic 2 manual the purple water really is called "Mega-mack"?

You're right, though. He had absolutely no reason to call you an ignoramus, in fact I think you handled it quite maturely.

I have a pretty good feeling that Mega Mack/Much isn't called that or probably even mentioned in the Japanese manual. I'd say they just call it "poisonous water" or something to that effect. I can't read Japanese, but it would probably be on this page if anyone's interested:

But the stuff Robotnik dumps on you in the boss fight is blue gunk, and he gets it by sucking it up from the pink water. Clearly it's the same stuff; the water is just a less concentrated/refined form.

I always thought he sucks it from the tubes....

Anyway, I don't care about this. It's a silly thing to get technical about.

For the record, the manual page posted doesn't mention it at all as far as I can tell.

I always figured that the purple chemical juices are only harmful if swallowed, and Dr. Eggman's manipulation of the Chemical Plant transforms them into the blue Mega Mack. When he sucks them through the pipe in the boss fight, it goes through a reaction that changes the consistency and makes it a harmful acidic chemcal.

It's that one section where Sonic's sliding through the blue liquid in Generations that mixes things up. I don't think the development team understood the mechanics at the time. This can be reconciled through some traditional theorizing and fan fiction nonsense:

The tubes in Chemical Plant with blue liquid are either:

An incomplete transformation of the Mega Mack, where it's still only harmful with prolonged exposure or ingestion. This explains why it's only harmful when it's in the blobby form. Eggman just has a more efficient portable model that he uses against Sonic in the boss fight.

    or...

The blue chemicals in the tubes are supposed to be non-harmful, but Eggman's tampering is making it toxic, so he can use it for his malicious deeds.

I prefer the first explanation personally, but I can see it going either way.

Yeah, that would make the most sense.

I don't think it would make sense, even for a fantasy world, for a blue and opaque fluid to be the same thing as a translucent purple liquid... Are you guys seriously implying this?

    Blue gunk = Mega Mack

    Purple water = polluted water

    This isn't rocket science.

I don't. How would he suck it from the pipes without breaking them?

...God this is a stupid argument.

OR, the original developers didn't really think about it all that much (considering how tight their development time constantly was) and left localization to come up with whatever they wanted.

It honestly shouldn't be a big deal, guys. It's a fun gimmick for modern Sonic, that's it.

Edit: My post was to Indigo Dude.

In other words its a video game with an unrealistic situation. If the Japanese says nothing about the chemicals being poisonous then they might not be. It could also be situation with a complete contradiction that has no explanation in existence.

Here's another technicality you could consider; In sonic 2, if Sonic ducks down when the boss drops chemicals on him, his back will absorb the damage. In the screenshots, the only part of Sonic touching the chemicals is his back. Maybe the issue is if a lot of it gets in Sonic's eyes or mouth?

granted, it's not as purple, but... well...

I go for the "blue = concentrated purple" thing.

I'm drawing something, not that you'll ever see it.
    Purple Stuff=Chemicals
    Blue Stuff=Other Chemicals

I don't see why any more explanation is needed.

theres probably certain parts of the pipes eggman connects the tubes of his hover-egg too. notice that he only goes to 2 certain spots when your fighting him (if you ever get part the first 20 seconds of fighting him :p)

    SCIENCE! :specialed:

Thanks for the definition though, I was still quite confused what the "mega-mack" really was.

From the build we've played, or from the classics? Because from what I've seen they've just been trying to emulate his animation from Sonic 1.

Oh God, I'm sorry I brought it up. Definitely pressed a shitstorm button on accident. Sorry sorry sorry. No more nitpicking for now.
