Sonic Generations Megathread

Hey look the website finally works, cool.

In other news HOLY FUCK.

I like everything I see and hear.

EDIT: Is it me or is the Classic Sonic gameplay a little off? I hate to be that guy, but it's the first thing I felt when I saw it for the first time.

 

While I wish some changes would be made to the modern Sonic levels (like less linearity and more emphasis on spin dash), this game looks really, really awesome. I wonder what's going to happen to Sonic 4. >_> Sonic 4: Episode 2 is going to need a severe overhaul to even have a chance of competing with this game.

 

They never said they were playable. Only the two Sonics are playable. (at least as far as we know)

 

I dunno, some things on the Classic Sonic gameplay looks off or choppy or whatever, but hey, it really seems that they're actually trying to make it classic unlike what they did with Sonic 4 and I'm loving it!

I'm almost as happy as everyone else in this thread, but I just can't shake off my skepticalness. I guess I learned not to hype so that I won't feel frustrated or anything, hype really is a terrible thing tbh, it doesn't help much to making the experience be more enjoyable once you get your hands on the game, and it makes the disappointment (if you have any about the game) be so much bigger! Look at Brawl for instance! Still, even though I still think this might still have a chance to come out mediocre, I'm really really liking what I'm seeing so far, aside from really minor nitpicks c:

Also, I dig SO HARD that image of Classic Sonic on that "ready to run" pose from his old artwork though, fo'real.

Well okay, it didn't say playable, but it does say they will be an important gameplay element.. which doesn't make sense, for now at least.

This is the most GORGEOUS Sonic game I have ever laid eyes on!

It has Classic Sonic in 2D, and Modern in 3D!

It has classic levels redone in HD and with both play styles in mind!

IT HAS PROPER PHYSICS.

This game is amazing. Hands Down, Day 1 Purchase.

My thoughts exactly. With how good this game is looking Sega will really have to step it up with Sonic 4 Ep2. After watching these trailers of Generations I have honestly not even thought about Sonic 4 Ep2. My focus is now 100% on Sonic Generations. As soon as pre-orders are available, I will definitely be pre-ordering it.

I wonder how much of the classic music got remixed and if so, when I can buy the soundtrack. :v:

 

This looks extremely impressive so far, I can't believe I'm saying this but you've got my attention back Sega! Now I have another reason to grab a PS3 when I get the cash!

I am fucking loving those Green Hill Zone remixes. I'm cautiously optimistic about this game after seeing the gameplay/interview, and I damn happy to see the spin dash back in full force. Make this game as fun as possible SEGA, please.

Also if it hasn't been said yet it looks like the red rings from Colors are back. Super Sonic(s) confirmed?

 

It's looking good so far and could be my first ever purchase of a modern Sonic game. It's a shame that in some parts of the classic bits still come across as the same roller coaster ride that have put me off playing past games.

Speaking of the PS3, I did notice that the gameplay video was playing the PS3 version of the title. The only time I noticed slow down was with that big Chopper near the end of the video. This is really cool, because if I remember correctly the PS3 version of Sonic Unleashed had it's framerate dip all over the place while the 360 version was at 20/30 FPS. I hope this means that both versions of the game will be identical to each other so no one will feel left out for buying the inferior version.

I'm buying this game because 1) It looks amazing, and 2) To give SEGA money, as they are going in the right direction, and their wallets need to realize that.

It's been a long time coming. In fact, I never thought this time would come. I seriously believed SEGA would just never figure things out. Let's hope it's fun to play!

It was crappily done in MSPaint though, so it's not worth sharing.

 

I noticed in the gameplay trailer I didn't see Classic Sonic using any modern moves, and sticking to a classic play style. While I am glad that they're making this distinction, I hope they don't completely ignore S3K era things like elemental shields the way they did for S4e1.

 

Eh, elemental shields aren't a part of Sonic's "moveset", per se. If they included the Insta-Shield (Which I doubt) that'd be cool.

It's kinda like the same way I don't see Sonic Team throwing in Chaos Emeralds in the normal fashion, if at all.

 

3D SPECIAL STAGE POSSIBLE?! :O
