I'm hoping at e3 they show stardust speedway, as the modern sonic gameplay is like a race anyway. So racing against metal sonic with that gameplay would be great. Plus the classic version in hd would be great as well.

Whatever they show next is going to be a modern zone. Probably Shitty Escape.

Yeah, I'd expect lolCity Escape because for some reason everyone seems to love that level, in spite of it playing like a really bad Unleashed stage.

However, it's a neat setting, and setting is most important for this- we're not keeping layouts, that's well-known. I'd like to see what a team with some imagination could do with, essentially, "San Francisco on a massive downhill slope"- perhaps a more mazelike design?

I have a feeling a City Escape will also feature architecture and stage design from Mission Street or Radical Highway, as well as a quick-step section made from that big Route 280-or-whatever-it-was stage.

I'm also calling classic Sonic's City Escape to be the instrumental version with the guitar lead from the SA2 alpha build.

+ - ALSO calling that classic fans will immediately dismiss the stage no matter how beautiful/fun it looks, just because it's from SA2

Boring. The classic mix needs to be every bit as extensive as the modern GHZ mix was. It needs to sound classic, and an instrumental track isn't going to cut it!

Well, yeah, it's just San Francisco. These real world locales had no business cropping up in a Sonic game to begin with. If it's fun, it's fun, but anything from SA2 that isn't Pumpkin Hill or Mad Space is just a waste of a level slot. Y'know, if you ask me.

Yeah, man. That part where the giant fucking monster truck chases you down the street? Or when you're demolishing cars by surfing into them?

    Totally boring.

+ - Sometimes, I wonder about youse guise.

City Escape actually does have some surreal elements- things like the skyscraper supporting a road with a rollercoaster loop in it. Work with those and you have something.

Of course, if they try too hard to be "accurate" to the original appearance of the level... we have San Francisco. Woo? They need to seize on the handful of interesting elements in the stage and build on those.

I just hope that melody from the guitar track in the alpha City Escape sticks. It's miles better than the melody the vocals give off in the final version.

I'm willing to bet they're gonna take some liberties (like they said they would with every stage in Generations) and make it more like an Unleashed stage in terms of design; by warping the landscape x500 plus ultra saturation. And speaking of which, I never had a problem with any of those said real world locations popping up in Unleashed, either.

    Plus,
I have to agree with these as well.

The problem with all of these bits is that they're all gameplay conventions, not visual design elements. Street surfing isn't going to make San Francisco any less San Francisco. Something like 70% of all Sonic zones have loops in them, there's nothing interesting about that. Also, chase sequences are only fun the first time, and we've already got one. Fuck that noise.

What City Escape needs is an art deco facelift and floating neon billboards sporting one word platitudes all over the place.

M.Sonic had a Modern remix of GHZ, I'm the same sort of thing will apply for C.Sonic in the modern stages. He'll have pseudo 16-bit/retro sounding music.

True that some of the levels in SA2 and other modern games are a tad much on the realistic side (having roads extending out of buildings and such is simply for level design), but it's variety. Variety is the very essence of Sonic Generations.

He was referring to the music being boring. That description you gave can also be applied to any over the top action game. City Escape was just San Francisco and doesn't represent the worlds of classic Sonic. It represents modern Sonic but you're crazy if you think it could go along with Starlight, Stardust Speedway or Casino Night Zone.

And a loop on a building does not make it a surreal when they were just trying to cram a loop somewhere in the first level.

I love City Escape and I will love to see what they do to it for both eras. Hopefully more wacky shit for Classic Sonic instead of "Look! A loop! That's classic!"

Loop isn't interesting, the road held up by a skyscraper is. If they were to run with "road suspended by skyscrapers", that type of thing, that could produce an interesting level. That'd be my point.

    Something like this:

    THAT would be cool.

(Metropolis Zone jokes in five... four... three... two... one...)

What would be great is if Sega composed all of Classic Sonic's BGMs using an NEC PC-88 to keep in tradition of the classic Genesis music. Except add extra touches that would make the song sound new and fresh. Just a thought.

Compromise is the essence of Sonic Generations. Half of this game is just a fruity, ephemeral distraction- I don't think I'm going to mind it much at all, but this could only be an optimal experience if they just trimmed the shitty bits altogether!

The shitty bits? Thus far, I've not seen any shitty bits. :P City Escape does come off as one of the most realistic stages in Sonic's history, but in saying that Rooftop Run is just as realistic but somehow doesn't feel it. I'm sure that it'll be fine if it is in the game. SA2 after all had a fairly gritty art style the was present even in stages like Mad Space and Pumpkin Hill. Generations doesn't, it's much more in line with Unleashed.

Exactly what I was saying; which is why I get the feeling that it will be much more cartoony, warped, and saturated than the original. They revamped Green Hill a lot for Generations so I won't be surprised if the same happens for this stage, and every other stage while we're at it. And with Iizuka claiming that there will be a different twist added to each stage in the game, I believe there would be much more to it than San Francisco with loops.

  17. I haven't been keeping up, but has this been posted?

They were in the Sega-Press site. Just thought I should share.

They were posted a long time ago. Shortly after the first trailer reveal I think.

Look harder: Holding a button to blast through narrow corridors. Grind rails. A chase segment. Horn sections. Green eyes! So shitty tbh.

Yeah, they're screenshots of the menu that changes as you progress through the game. I look forward to seeing them in action.

lol. I'll you the first one, but the rest I like.
