That's not what he's referring to though. The Greased Lightning trophy only applies to act 1. The competition is for Act 2.

 

It'll be on Sega's official blog, but from what I understand, it's only open to people in North America.

 

Did anyone not understand what to really do with the final boss?

When you go to hit him, I just held forward, mashed some buttons and Sonic(s) flew in to his middle and hurt him, I still have no idea what the hell to do, I have beaten it though! haha!

 

I think touching the debris doesn't count against the trophy. Also, only stay in 3D mode, much easier to avoid its attacks. Unless he fires his laser, of course.

People in the UK and Mexico can compete too.

Well I think I figured the technique out for the final boss...

To people wondering what to do in the final boss fight, I believe I have figured it out... If you propel the Sonic you are not controlling forward with the X or A button depending on your console, then boost, it seems that you move quite a bit quicker to sort of catch up with the Sonic you throw. If you do it right you can reach the Time eater really really quickly. At least that seems to be how it works upon close inspection, as well as trial and error on my part. From my testing this technique seems to work regardless of whether you are in 2D mode or 3D mode.

 

Chimera figured it out a long time ago. His post is what I used to beat Time Eater.

I don't reeally think the fight itself is that crappy as much as Sonic's friends going "WARPING ARM" "HOMING SHOT" "BE CAREFUL" and such. They really ruin it. That, and people don't know what the fuck they're doing. Also, the debris... If you imagine them as rocks, the foght really is like a 3D Doomsday Zone, so... There ya go :specialed:

I think a lot of people are getting swept up by the initial excitement of playing the game for the first time and it actually being fun to play. Sure, it's fun, but I'm pretty sure I had a lot more fun with all the classics.. that's not to say it's bad, just it's hard to approach a game like Sonic 3 and Knuckles or Sonic 2 and come close. Yeha, it's been a long time since a sonic game has been anything but a chore and disappointment to play, but that doesn't immidiately make this better than the games that were actually great. We should see if it stands the test of time - personally I think it definitely has some weaknesses and there are elements of the game that stand out as having problems (the bosses in particular are a bit meh, and the 2D levels feel a bit tacked on - while they're interesting from a 'ooh, speed highway in 2D' perspective, they're not actually that fun to play imho, and to me it feels as if I'm just trying to get through them to get to the next 'real' level).

I think before people start making verdicts on how much better than the good old sonic games, we should give it more time

 

Also, I don't see how you can think that the classic stages felt tacked on. It's seemed pretty clear to me that a fair bit of work went into those layouts.

If you want "tacked on", look at the challenges.

 

I can't wait to actually play this tonight.

After being away for the weekend and not getting to play it upon its arrival through the post on release day, I feel like I am missing out big time.

The footage for modern speed highway I saw on youtube was incredible. I am also looking forward to classic crisis city and modern chemical plant.

Yeah, I noticed this when browsing through some recently uploaded videos. I've been at it for this stage for the past few days (and have a 1:44 record) but this is like a punch to the gut. Even though I can definitely see things to improve on... I'm going to fucking break something if I have to tackle this stage competitively again.

The Speed Highway one's been posted already. Not as interesting- I want to see what Diablohead is doing for his 1:36 time.

 

The only thing I absolutely hate about the game is there's no Marathon Mode where you can play through all the classic levels or all the modern levels in a straight line without dealing with the stupid hub world. I don't get why they insist on having a hubworld in the first place, I think SA2 did it best, make the main story mode linear and then give level select a map. Sonic Colors most certainly did NOT need the stupid map it had for the main story mode, it just breaks up the game and makes the story lose momentum. NEWSFLASH: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG IS THE ONE GAME WHERE LOSING MOMENTUM ISNT A GOOD THING.

Either way, a marathon mode like they DID have in Colors would be great in Generations. I love Classic Crisis City, some of the other levels are just bad though. Classic City Escape makes me feel anxious because you really can't explore it and Classic Seaside is kind of boring. Classic Planet Wisp was annoying too. Overall the game isn't GREAT, but it's a good effort that I still enjoy playing.
