I respect being antsy about getting more news, I’m not a fan of the tight lipped approach either and I sincerely hope it’s just to let the movie have the limelight until it releases, but how are you gonna badmouth a game we know next to nothing about, and what’d be the point?

Exactly. Some of you all really need to calm down - Sega isn't going to put anything out new related to Frontiers until after the film is out of the door, I don't know why any of you are expecting otherwise. Things will get lost in noise otherwise.

Breath Of The Wild 2 has been delayed to spring 2023... and honestly I think this is a big break for Sonic Frontiers. Less open world competition this November + folks who may not have been interested might wanna check Frontiers out to tide them over until BOTW2

Sure there's *less* open world competition, but it is still unfortunate Frontiers is gonna have to compete with Elden Ring this year, and that game has already put up insane numbers. I really hope Frontiers offers something truly unique in the open world genre. Even if they can't offer something with the same scope as BOTW or Elden Ring, they can potentially offer a game that actually does something different with the formula. At the very least, it should be more accessible to audiences who aren't ready to invest tons of hours into a notoriously difficult game.

There's also been Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Halo Infinite, to name a couple. Lot of IPs are taking a stab at this lately. Not to mention IPs that already do open world stuff, like Horizon. I don't think fans of open world games are gonna be left wanting for a while, even if they're specifically hungry for more "accessible" ones.

I do feel like people are going to be let down considering the game was described as an "open-zone-inspired experience" in the press release, which doesn't sound like what people might be expecting.

Good point. I was mainly thinking that Sonic taking such heavy BOTW influence aesthetically might make some Zelda fans interested... then again I guess all open world games look samey rn... so I dunno
Ngl I would be cool with giant adventure-esque levels with multiple missions and collectibles instead of a true open world game.

"Open-zone" sounds like it'll be more of a Pokemon Legends Arceus thing than a BOTW thing, and I'm ok with that. I'm just looking forward to after the movie comes out because that's when they're gonna actually start revealing shit about this game

    creating the biggest sonic collection
I would prefer Mario Odyssey styled levels to a BOTW style open world game.

Maybe Sonic Frontiers would go crazy and would have a mix of everything. :V

Can't believe I forgot about Pokemon. You're right, that game is about as accessible as they come. Frontiers is taking on an even taller task than I thought.

Personally I won't mind too much if "open zone" isn't truly open world. As long as they're doing something different to make their brand of "open world" more interesting than the 278,000 other games that continue to define the genre.

I don't play a lot of games these days, but it dawned on me yesterday that almost everything I've played for the first time since December is open-world or made up of smaller open-world areas. Spiderman, Horizon Zero Dawn, Spiderman Miles Morales, Pokémon Legends, DBZ Kakarot, Immortals Fenyx rising... The only three exceptions to that are Kena (which I've hardly played), Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart (which is kinda boring) and Balan Wonderworld (which is Balan frickin Wonderworld).

From what little we've seen of Frontiers' world and based on what the descriptions/tags on storefronts suggest, Frontiers seems like it isn't going to be much of a platformer. My biggest concern about the game is that it is indeed going to be just another open world like any other. I'm struggling to see it being an open world adaptation of Sonic style gameplay and platforming.

That's why I just want to see more of this game already. I want to know what the fuck it even is.

Something closer to Mario Odyssey is fine by me. Bigger isn't always better and it's their first real attempt at this kinda thing so maybe it's better if they don't go straight into a massive Elden Ring style overworld.

However this game turns out, if it's great or just mediocre, hopefully they'll build off of it so that Sonic Frontiers 2 or whatever can be bigger, better and more refined.

  14. Hopefully, but so far it seems like Sonic Team’s mentality is either:

“Whoo, it came out great! That’s as far as we can take it, so throw it away.”

    or,

“Damn, it sucks. Nothing worth salvaging, so throw it away.”

I just want them to stick to a style for more than two games in a row. The progression from Unleashed to Colors to Generations demonstrated how good things can get when you refine something (although I do prefer Unleashed to Colors). While returning to Adventure gameplay would be my ideal choice, all I ask is that they pick a style and stick with it.

I really hope Sonic Frontiers would be a natural evolution of the first Sonic Adventure.

Personally I hope they take cues from BotW's European boxart and have Sonic looking frontwards

I just hope it's visually appealing and original. Boxart for the past decade and beyond has been incredibly samey and uninteresting, plus they won't stop using that old Sonic model circa 2005 that looks incredibly dated. But considering that the two CG trailers continue to use that model and that the in-game trailer looks to be the in-game variant of said model from Forces and Lost World, I don't hold my breath.
