Maybe they've wrestled control of the Judgment games away from that talent agency so they can come to Steam?

    ...please?

Speaks to an opinion I've always held about Sega in contrast to Nintendo - you'll often see especially among SNES fanboys of the era claim that Sega "only has/had Sonic," but in reality it's more like Sonic is their only Nintendo-like IP: marketable, mascot-focused, gets put in a bunch of games including spin-offs because it's got instant brand recognition. Sega had some of the best exclusives of the Genesis era (Phantasy Star, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Gunstar Heroes to name a few) and even Saturn has a very strong library without having its own exclusive Sonic game, but the strengths in Sega's portfolio don't lend themselves nearly as well to that same kind of brand awareness of Mario, Link, Kirby, DK etc. Like, Nintendo could make Smash Bros. and know that players would recognize like 80% of its lineup - Sega couldn't.

In that way I see Sega as sort of a precursor to Sony, and an interesting parallel there is I feel my generation ('91 baby) has much more nostalgia for the N64. It didn't sell nearly as well as the PS1 anywhere, but that's where all the games were that targeted us. If I hear anyone my age bring up the PS1, it's usually Crash, Spyro and Tony Hawk, and the nerdier among us will have played the Final Fantasies. I read my wife the lineup to the PS1 Classic when it came out and she didn't recognize a single game. It just has a different appeal.

    Anyway, rambling.

You only feel that because you're in North America: outside there and away from the latch-key Nintendo kids, there's FAR more nostalgia for PS1 than N64.

gotta agree with this, I feel like the PS1 was way more popular in the UK. I had a PS1 and pretty much most people I knew growing up had a PS1 instead of an N64.

I feel like maybe SEGA was also a lot more popular in Europe than Nintendo? It feels weird for me to say considering that I wasn't really alive for most of SEGA's console career lol.

That's a fair point. America is also the only region where N64 did any serious numbers - its hardware sales in the US are on par with the Genesis and SNES (but PS1 was about double those). Anywhere else, it was the first major warning sign for Nintendo, it even lost to the Saturn in Japan by a comfortable margin.

Before global pandemics were a thing you could go along to "Sega Fes":

They revealed news, and had special... things... there. I don't know the details, but you could argue it doesn't get more direct than that ;)

I’ve been watching Kamen Rider through the official subs on Shout Factory’s website. Hiroshi Fujioka, the actor who played Segata Sanshiro, played the original Kamen Rider Takeshi Hongo. Segata Sanshiro is like a meme in the US fanbase but I don’t think people realize how big a deal this was for the Saturn. In terms of cultural significance Fujioka is like Japan’s William Shatner.
Anyways moving back to Frontiers potentially being shown before the Sonic 2 movie... someone on reddit claimed that the trailer for team Sonic Racing was played before the first Sonic movie. Is that true?

Sorry, my mind mixed William Shatner and the name of the new game, and now I can only think of Starfall Trek with Sonic as captain of the Eggterprise to explore the final Frontiers.

I definitely remember the team sonic racing trailer playing before the movie.

Also the future game show is on the 24th, is there a slim chance we'll get something there?

Yea, the future game show does make some sense though. It's a week before the movie (In the UK at least) so showing it off there before putting it as a trailer infront of the movie would be a nice way of passing the hype from the movie to frontiers. I'm sure that something to do with frontires will be shown but it's more likely they rehash the environment footage again rather than showing us gameplay.

It was. Nintendo didn't give a shit about Europe and a lot of big name games never came out there.

Hmm... maybe this Tails show will be a place for Sonic Frontiers info to be revealed... or maybe it’s just the US version of Vtuber Sonic

...I still think Sonic Central would be more appropriate. But I don't care at this point, just want that dang trailer already.

At first I thought "nah, this will just be for merch and small stuff like that" but then Ian Flynn tweeted #KnowingSmile so I wouldn't rule Frontiers news out (although Flynn is involved in a lot of stuff for this series so that could really mean anything lol)

For some reason this makes me think it's a replacement for the livestreams, and for some other reason I even thought it was weekly.

I'm gonna be super cautious getting any hopes up for anything other than "Hey, these comics from IDW exist :)"

The IDW comics are pretty banging though, wish they generated the kind of discussion that the Archie line did here.

Anyway, I highly doubt this will be breaking any Sonic Frontiers news to us. Looking at Mania and Forces, trailers were revealed during events such as Nintendo Directs or SXSW. To my knowledge, it’s never been SEGA’s MO to unveil this stuff through social media channels. Everybody who watches those channels are already following the franchise fairly closely, so these trailers are only going to come from places that get a lot of eyes on them from the general audiences.

I'm hoping later we're getting good looking promotional art as Sonic 2 Movie for this game as well.
