I sent Azukara these. he didn't say I couldn't post them. I tweaked that sonic model a little more and made this... More coming soon.
In case it wasn't obvious, the textures I used for the Buzzer model are based on Trakker's drawing of Buzzer that everyone seems to like. I feel I should get permission first before I release the texture because it looks nearly exactly the same. BTW, I completed the Buzzer model and reduced it to 400 faces. It looks very blocky up close, but that doesn't matter because it won't be noticed when you are running and jumping through the zone and popping them so fast. I have also come up with a few new badnik designs which I will start modeling either later today or tomorrow.
I know the model in the Blitzsonic default engine looks a little similar to it, but it looks oddly proportioned compared to the one I posted. It looks a little bug-eyed, and it's spikes are sort of wonky in shape, and his arms and legs are like little stubs rather than, you know, arms and legs. :v: The one I posted looks just like a glorified 3D version of the concept art you posted earlier (which I believe came from Sonic Jam). @Dragon: can't wait to see them. I already asked trakker if we could use his robot concepts for design, and he said we could. Since that's the case, then I'm sure you could use peices of the art, but it wouldn't hurt for you to ask him again anyways if you wish.
That because it's an edit of that model, and therefore can be easily duplicated. Though you might want to ask SefirothDB for it since he might have a copy.
On second thought, I can probably make some similar textures, but make them clearly different from Trakker's. I'll see what I can come up with and I will probably have Buzzer ready by tomorrow.
It's not an edit, it's a different model. I have it around, I'll ask Sefi if I can release it. By the way, this project would sound more plausible if you were to make a 2.5D game instead of a full 3D game. If you want help with that, I still have the engine I used to make this.
Awesome. Although I am conflicted on if it should be 2.5D or 3D. Should I have a poll over it? And I introduce our newest member: DJ Max-E. =)
Sonic - now with 100% less knees! But seriously, the complaint I have with this model and similar ones is that he looks a little too fat/round. Even classic Sonic wasn't that round, to be honest. I personally like Dude's that he posted a little bit earlier the most. It's a nice mix of classic and modern design. The green eyes could be removed, but other than that, I like it the most. Also, this project looks awesome. If I had any decent 3d modeling tools past gmax (which is pretty much 3DSmax's less effective cousin), I'd at least try and help make some levels.
Wait, what? The Sonic model looks fine (in fact it's perfect). Just because he doesn't have absolutely apparent and noticable knees doesn't mean he's kneeless. =P Ever noticed how cartoony characters consist of arms and leg that are like bendy poles? Think of it like that. And the model looks almost like a carbon copy of the Sonic 3 sprite.
I thought the whole point of this project was to show how Sonic could work in a 3D environment. So my vote is no to 2.5D.
For the record, in my opinion, there isn't really anything wrong with a 3D Sonic game, it just hasn't been done very well. With the exception of Sonic Adventure 1. This is the only 3D 'Classic' Sonic. There is nearly always another way around something, classic badniks, and tonnes of platforming. The 'speed' sections aren't thrown all over the place, and you can only get through the levels quickly if you know them very well. And even if you think you can, getting all the emblems will provide a challenge. With character designs similar to the classics, near classic level layout, this is the 3D Classic Sonic. I say you should try a full 3D Sonic game. Possibly harder than 2D, yes, but it would be a spectacle to see.
Okay, so that's the deal then. 3D it is, although the engine will still need major polishing. I'll probably get off my butt and make a 2.5D version of the same game under my spare time. :p And yes of course SA1 is the closest we've ever had to classic Sonic in 3D. But I believe it wasn't quite there (both in gameplay and overall design), and that's why this project was made in the first place. :p @Jayextee: who you kiddin? This mess has been real since it got started.
