Booster pads and the whole Sonic Rush mechanic are the worst things from modern games, not by themselves, but because of the use they make for them. Oh, and I didn't notice that speed overwriting code from the boosters, but it's additional absurdness. Anyway, I assumed a long time before that those Dimps-esque level designs are the rule now, thus considering any game after the classics being a different kind of game featuring the same characters of the first series, and I try to enjoy these lesser quality titles on their own, not comparing them with the older ones. Generations (on Steam) was the first game I really enjoyed since both Sonic Adventures, and it's still a product of the modern times. I own also 3DS Generations, and it was so bad I didn't even bother to finish it. I hope that, no matter where they put the booster pads or how necessary the Rush mechanic is, the game feels like Steam Generations and not like 3DS Generations; if they can do such different things for two versions of the same title, one of them being nice enough for me to go for all the achievements, they can do anything from the best to worst this time as well.
More footage of Forces, this time of the first boss battle. Starts off blah and then Sonic Team throws in a twist.
Drop Dash in Forces confirmed baby! But man, Sonic's controls and momentum in this new footage look much better than Classic Sonic in Generations. I'm excited!
I kinda love that twist actually. Spoiler Egg Dragoon is a nice surprise. Plus the neat thing about that boss is that while it's appeared 3 times, it's fought a different version of Sonic each time so it's still actually kinda fresh.
Green Hill Zone with Avatar gameplay! Even the Sega dude is calling the Custom character "OC", so yay for Deviantart jokes. EDIT: Modern Gameplay demonstration: NO CHAO GARDEN F*CK YOU SONIC TEAM ahem... Well Sonic got his Colours Double Jumping ability back.
This doesn't look too bad. Probably going to be annoying to hear the others characters talk every minute though.
Okay so either this isn't the same classic Sonic from Generations or classic Sonic was always just from another dimension. I don't even know what to make of this tbh
Oh boy, was that a "destroy all enemies to proceed" room? :/ EDIT: Do we know that the switch version is severely downgraded (i.e. missing geometry) in which case the earlier preview was very incomplete, or is the switch port not as terrible as the early screens indicated?
i was joking about Mania leading up to Forces before but now we can add that this Classic Sonic is from the Taxman Dimension.
I mean... I think making Classic Sonic of another dimension than Modern Sonic is better than implying Classic Sonic "grew up"/will "grow up" into Modern Sonic.
The interface looks...boring? I guess. It just looks quite different. I love how the Tails dialogue box obscures your view of Robotnik for a moment as well. I really, really hope you can turn that shit off. I think the best bit is still the Modern gameplay, and in my opinion, it's all I'm really looking forward to from this game.
I just hope they don't wind up forcing female OCs into that stupid rubber suit thing if not otherwise clothed, and that males can wear shorts as well as shirts. Beyond that, fur patterns when applicable could go a long way to helping the wolf/dog/cat get picked more often (you can squeeze a lot of dog breeds into the first two, as well as the last covering pretty much all feline species).
It makes a lot more sense than having Classic be a younger version of Modern Sonic, but at the same time something about it just really rubs me the wrong way. Oh well, we'll have to see how they handle it.
I get it. They're purposely making this game look as soulless and ugly as possible to bump up Mania, right? ...right? It's like every time they announce something for this game my hopes for it go down. Between how automated the stages are, the inclusion of Classic/OCs and otherwise the sheer amount of stuff they're reusing this game is looking up to be a total mess when it comes out. "Eggman attacks with his army of Death Egg Robots while he gets in the Egg Dragoon to fight Classic Sonic" sounds like something you'd expect to read in a kid's fanfiction. Also the Modern Sonic video @ 1:07 Maybe I just worship the Adventure series too much for my own good but pluralising those two names just, god damn.
The alternate dimension thing will probably allow for Super Knuckles to exist in Mania. It might even allow for the Super Emeralds to be canon.
They already did. This game is too deep into development to stop it now. I dunno it sounds awesome in a "so bad it's good" way. If Sonic Teams nails that the story might actually be pretty fun.
