We all know that the Sonic Compilation (and Sonic Jam) version of Sonic 2 has several differences from the original cart version. Bugfixes, improvements, and even bugs added :)
Why not see if we can find them all, and list them here?

    I'll start with a couple:

Bugfix: The bug where you would get stuck in mid-air if you jumped after finishing a level (Super Sonic) has been fixed.

Bug added: In WFZ, make Sonic go up on those rising platforms. As the platform disappears at the top, Sonic won't fall - he'll just stay there doing a 'balance' pose until the next platform comes up.

    Any more?

Didn't Hivebrain make a log of the differences when he extracted the ROM from Sonic Compilation? I thought he did, but I'm not too sure.

You might be thinking of the changes between Revision 00 and 01 that DRX did a little while ago:

Is the Compilation ROMs going around just the original ROM tricked into starting Sonic 2 first, or actually extracted?

Well, Sonic 2 is the first ROM in the compilation ROM. This is why the header is gone and replaced with the header of the compilation ROM (and why we don't know what rev it is). Because it is the first ROM, all the pointers and stuff would remain the same if you extract it.

All Hivebrain did was make a new header, and changed the pointer to where it begins reading code. (IIRC) Then deleted all the code from the other games that came after the S2 ROM.

Has anyone ever actually verified this? I know I haven't, and it would be pretty funny if it turned out to be completely untrue.

I tried jumping in the air with more than 50 rings on both the Sonic Compilation and Sonic Jam versions, and neither of them have the 'stuck in air' bug. Even if you were Super Sonic before hitting the capsule or end panel, you won't get stuck if you jump again.

    Is that verification enough? :D

That bug's a little more odd than that. But as I always say, pictures speak louder than words; Click me.

Whoa, that is one weird glitch! I had no idea the glitch would cause all those things to happen - especially since it disappeared (for me) when Sonic jumped again.

I'm not at home right now so can't try this out, but maybe someone with Sonic 2/Sonic Compilation could try this 'glitch':

Enter the Level Select, Super Sonic and Debug codes using the sound test. Go to any level, collect 50 rings, and jump. Before you transform into Super Sonic, press Start to pause the game. Now hold B to go slow-mo until the transformation is complete. Unpause, and you should be Super Sonic... without the annoying Super Sonic music playing!
I have a hunch that this may have been fixed for Sonic Compilation - though I see little point, as you're not _supposed_ to use the slow-mo cheat during regular play :)
