That Gametrailers footage is shit hot. Is it just me or does it sound like Sonic has a new voice actor? Eggman's sounds the same, but there is something noticeably different about Sonic's.
Yeah it does sound different. However, I doubt that there's a new VA and it's most likely Griffith tweaking Sonic's voice like he has done a few times.
He makes some noises, like hehuh and oawh, the usual in game Sonic script. Eggman was talking in the background, which I liked against the music for some reason sounded nice. The "POWER UP" "SPIN" isn't Jason, either the Japanese voice over or a bad choice for the Wisps voices.
Yes, I had - and I see no-one's ripped it yet. Let me fix that! Sonic Colours E3 JP Website Theme.mp3 EDIT: Incidentally - calling this track for the title screen theme.
They spent their entire polygon budget on sonic, leaving nothing left for other items aside from the level itself.
I just watched the extended Tropical Resort footage, and I don't think I've laughed with joy so much for a Sonic game in quite a long time. I liked Unleashed's day levels, but this is an improvement on even that. The levels are detailed and imaginatively designed, the music seems to be heading in a good direction (I love that the BGM suddenly gains a thumping bassline when Sonic uses the drill Wisp), and the gameplay looks like pure, unadulterated fun. Major, major props to the team who managed to make this happen. I'll go ahead and say it now: this is what Sonic 4 should have been. I've always liked Sonic 4 and thought it looked like decent fun, but this blows it away.
I'm loving the music for Tropical Resort. And about Sonic sounding different... I think it's Junichi, but even he sounds different if it is him. It's most notable during a homing attack and switching rails.
I think what was meant was, Sonic 4 is rehash city. All of the other Sonic games since 3K have included pointless gimmicks (except Advance 1 and possibly Advance 2 as well). Colours on the other hand is just extending the usual Sonic gameplay. The Wisp behaviour could easily be mapped onto the classic style games. Or not even that specifically, but some other sort of gameplay extension.
I rather liked the effect of having Robotnik's voice over the loud speaker as you play. Makes it feel like you're invading his territory, as well as adds a bit more personality to the levels. The music was an area of concern for me, and I'm glad to say that my fears were alleviated. I was already very excited about this game, but now the wait is unbearable. A very good showing by Sega all-in-all.
Okay, what do I think about Colors? - The Tropical Resort is fucking GORGEOUS. The Wii can do that? - Adding to that, the framerate is solid, even with all the stuff there. - Sonic looks like he's using a modified version of the PS360 Unleashed model. Very nice. - Eggpawns and Badniks, together at last. - Eggman's little announcements over the loud speaker. It makes it feel that the place is alive, and it's his. - Adding to that, he gives the obligatory "would the owner of a (color) (vehicle) please (action)" announcement. - The balance of 2D to 3D is pretty good. 3D stays for speed, and 2D is more platforming. - My worries for the music is over. Love it. - The GT guy killed an Eggpawn waving a "Welcome" sign. Jerk. D: Overall: Do want.
Obviously not. The game presented in the E3 event is being developed for the 360. They disguised the hardware and made you feel like you were playing the Wii, but you were actually playing Xbox. With your hopes all rised, in the day of release of the game, I'll buy it only to find out that the game you now own has nothing to do with the one you played during the day of the event; it's a subpar continuation of Wii Unleashed, using the Black Knight engine and a new gimmick: Rainbowhog.
This is kind of what I meant. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with Sonic 4, not if they fix up the buggy physics engine, but it's very much standard fare. There's nothing overly exciting about it, but then they avoided gimmicks entirely for it. Colours looks like a progression of normal Sonic gameplay, rather than something with a pasted-on gimmick; the Wisps come across as an evolution of the shield abilities from 3 (to me, anyway). Admittedly though, yes, I put my point across badly, and Colours itself shoud not be Sonic 4. I just think that if Sonic 4 had gone in a similar direction, maybe things would have turned out better.
Sweet Mountain Act 2 looks kind of uninteresting, although that might be partly because the player didn't bother with the drill. At first blush that opening 3D section looks pointless, but then, it occurs to me that the player may not have actually had a chance to really get used to drifting yet, so a few simple 3D turns might actually be a good thing to have at this point. But somehow I get the feeling Act 2 is going to feel relatively "budget" next to Act 1. The way it spends the entire time looping around one tower of cake and burgers, it reminds me of two of the optional/downloadable Savannah Citadel acts from Unleashed HD, which re-used the tree from the end of the Act proper with a new path layout and a lap system. Actually, I think it'll probably be the map theme. EDIT: And no, I have no freakin' idea how a quote of this very post wound up in this very post. It's gone now, though.
