As for the cutscene, they probably wanted to keep his voice closer to the Japanese track. I'd assume a lot of studios would do the same in the presence of an anal fanbase. :v:
The bad physics are no different from those in Rush. The difference is that even if they are somewhat wonky, they work with the style of gameplay.
No more coffee today. What I meant was Ryan and Jason. That commercial always cracks me up. Funny that it's advertising SA, but the airplane scene is kind of foreshadowing SA2. I wonder if it was done on purpose. Junichi has a bouncier and playfull voice though, that's why it being slightly deeper than the english voices isn't so obvious. I think it's the one I indentify with Sonic the most.
Ffff, I can't count. But, eh... I get the feeling someone was, for the most part, on top of Jason's lines, actually taking the time to direct him. And that seems to have continued here. So bravo to the voice director for finally getting their shit together. About time. I guess we just had so many games since 2005 that it feels like Jason's time was much longer. My bad. Again, I want to stress that I didn't mind his vocal chords, his voice was very much a Sonic-y voice that would've been fine... he just clearly had trouble winging proper emotion. Anyway, the deepness of Roger is a little surprising, but again, since he can act, it still brings the scene together fine. I'm curious to see where this goes over the next few years.
Tails' voice is MASSIVELY improved, but I cannot stand Sonic's at all. Isn't he supposed to be a teenager? He always had some kind of high-pitched inflection to his voice as well, Smith completely lacks this.
Wow... I LOVE Tails's voice. Sonic's is sounding perhaps a bit too old, but it's enjoyable. The entire clip is both cartoony and REALLY nice.
Check this: For whatever reason, SEGA wanted Sonic to sound older. That'll be why he's no longer so high-pichted. Smith has definitely pulled it off, but I really wonder why they wanted him to sound different.
Does this mean the Sonic Cycle has been trashed for good? Or perhaps it's been eliminated... for now?
I welcome the deeper-voiced Sonic into the series. I always wanted Sonic to have a deeper voice like a character in his mid-to-late teens (somewhat like how it was in SA1) but they've notably failed on this many many times. I'm personally absolutely fine with this new take on Sonic's voice; but the gestures Sonic made in the video is what's worrying me. He's constantly waving his arm out in front of him, like they decided to make him replay his "C-Rank" animation from Unleashed for the 360 over and over and over again. 2:28 to see what I mean. Tails is <3 on all aspects though.
I wonder if they wanted him older to show a progression in the "overall story", I think this is reflecting in the writing, they both seem to understand each other to the point where it ain't "LONG TIME NO SEE!" anymore.
I doubt Sega is all that interested in chronological progression. I mean, I can't think of any other reason they would decide to deliberately butcher Sonic's voice but I still don't think that's it.
I was meaning in the sense that its easier to say a "lets move away from the mess of story that was forming" into a fresh start, by taking the whole series a year ahead, so that there is a clear difference between now and then. Sega seem to want to move a way from their mistakes they have had in the last couple years and I would be too seeing as they seem to be getting the reviews they wanted from their games, so a clean break may be what they are seeking.
For the very first time, I am actually confident we may be seeing a new start to Sonic. I don't care what anyone else thinks - he now sounds like a cool guy rather than just a bit of a douche, Sonic Team may have found something they had that was good and are refining it, and the tone is going down. Honestly, if it falls apart after Colours, Sonic Team need to be fired in it's entirety. They have an absolute winner here, to change Sonic again is foolhardy.
