Troll much? Sound more like an entry of the "Iizuka's Official Tweeter." Also, I just realized we are in the Sonic Colors thread.
It's fun how you say this with such certainty despite not having played Colours yet. Make-up-your-mind-beforehand, much?
Uh. It's pretty much impossible for anything current to outdo the classics. To me, anyway. No but really, I'm not expecting THE BEST SONIC GAME EVER because it honestly won't be, but I am expecting/hoping for a pretty fun/decent game. It's taking the most popular aspects of Unleashed, using one of the most successful tropes of video games(the power ups), and the overall art direction/themes are incredibly fitting for a Sonic game. Not expecting gold, but I'm expecting fun.
Y'know, come to think of it, this is the same guy that backpedaled on his statements about speed and momentum in Sonic 4 when questioned about the amount of boosters and bumpers in Splash Hill Zone. But this is about Sonic Colors, and I'm actually inclined to believe him this time. By the way Gamerzines, saying something's better than Sonic '06 is not unlike saying this game's better than watching a big pile of shit stink. Anything's better than that.

I KNEW the voice was familiar, because it's my own voice asking him questions.
From: A thread at SSMB. So erm. A PR guy not knowing what he's talking about, or...?
From: A thread at SSMB. So erm. A PR guy not knowing what he's talking about, or...?
They could have gotten the rendering engine on the Wii, I don't know. I mean I'm sure if they took the time to change it they could get a working version on the Wii, and to be fair the game does look very good on the Wii, it may be an alteration of their Hedgehog Engine, not sure. We won't know until we launch the game and "Hedgehog Engine" pops up in the opening credits.
If they can get the Hedgehog Engine running on Wii, then the next 360/PS3 game that uses it better not have all the framerate issues Unleashed did.
Another interview with everyone's favorite Iizuka! http://spong.com/article/22458/Sonic-Team-...e-Sonic-Colours Apparently Mario & Sonic helped shape Sonic Colors. And Iizuka thanks Sonic got too "Gritty and serious" for the character and finds it ironic one of his last games directing (Sonic Adventure 2) set the tables for that one but wants to bring Sonic back to the availability of younger audiences and make a better direction "For the brand." I can say I have to agree with him though remind him there is a difference between family friendly and too kiddy.
The comments on that article made me chuckle. The trolls are already out in force. I really cannot believe Iizuka of all people is saying this shit. I thought he was all about turning this series into a grim dark serious business clusterfuck. After all, he was responsible for ShadowTH, a game about a negro gun totting hedgehog blowing up aliens and people with lots of fucking guns. I think he's trying to cover his ass, he's been in topsy turvy world too much recently.
All I can say is: Holy Shit. Iizuka's actually getting smarter. I hated gritty, serious business-branded Sonic. I'm not saying Sonic [games as a whole] should be childish, but I don't think they should be serious and dark and crap. I mean come on, it's a game filled with off-colored anthropomorphic animals. It should be a bit light-hearted.
Personally, I thought there was a place for a more serious-side of Sonic, but, the developers failed at making good gameplay for said games. I thought Shadow the Hedgehog was too over the top, however. I like the epicness moreso of the Adventure titles.
I agree about the Adventure titles - in terms of content, those were a perfect balance between being serious and being light-hearted. After that, they started trying too hard. EDIT: Also, Heroes was pretty much the same way - great balance of seriousness and lightheartedness.
I also still have faith in the Mad World Writers. I don't expect something too serious but I can't help but shake the feeling in Unleashed way kinda' it will verge into darker themes later or even emotional themes though lighthearted along the way. I can't judge since I have not seen a single cutscene in action, but still. Actually the game's opening may pop up at Tokyo Game Show thinking about it. Usually the Game's openings pop up about a month or two before release and Tokyo Game Show is like, almost exactly two months before release.
Sega already confirmed that Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 will be there. We'll probably see a new trailer or at least some more cam footage.
I couldn't stand Sonic Heroes. I thought it took the lightheartedness/kiddiness to a stupid level. For example, I wish Charmy lost his voicebox, and also, THE REAL SUPER POWER OF TEAM WORK!!!
Storywise, however, the lightheartedness and seriousness was kept in check. The dialog made me want to jump off a building into busy traffic.
Are you kidding? Everything about that game's attitude from the way it constantly rammed instructions up your nose to how cheesetacular the story was (not in the good way) was terrible. A perfect example of the opposite extreme. If you're referring to art direction, fine, but everything else about the game's "tone" was balls. Adventure 2 was the last time prior to Unleashed that I thought there was any kind of balance, and even that was pushing it a bit too far on the "serious" side. (Not to mention the storytelling and acting weren't all that great). I have hopes for Colors, but I'm wondering if it might be "pushing it" a bit too far on the "lighthearted" side in the same way SA2 was pushing it in the other direction. Either way, no mech stages, so high hopes here. :v:
Colors' story direction I think will take a bit of a "Sonic Rush" tone. The story is there but not overbearing, and you kind of have a feeling that something bad's going down, but a lot of happy-go-lucky dialog sprinkled with foreshadowing and typical Villain-to-Hero exchange here and there kind of off-sets that.
Personally, I found Heroes to be cheesy in a charming and stupid way, like watching your clutzy friend drop his/her shit all the time or fall down the stairs. It's cringe-worthy and horrible, but you can't help but laugh. Colors' art style and current set of writers has me hopeful that the game will actually be legitimately well written and geared towards everyone, instead of purely kids/people who's wardrobe is entirely purchased at Hot Topic. We haven't seen any bit of story from this game yet, which I suppose is a good thing as they're purely trying to sell the gameplay and not the "oh man epiccccc story", but I hope maybe we'll get one trailer or video that showcases a cutscene or two with voice acting and the like. If the game is just about a serious as Unleashed took itself then I'll be happy, but it sounds to me that they're trying to push an "everyone" rating in the same way Mario does, which I'm happy about.
