    Canada, eh.
Sonic TV Scripts, Sonic Comic Wiki Work
Depends on how many games they plan on including. If they include a huge majority of Sonic games, with alternative game play modes, that's a lot of stuff.

Amazing how games made so many years ago (the old Sonic games) are able to continue generating mass amounts of profit. There's a ton of sunk costs that have been covered (R&D, development, etc.), now the only costs are advertisement, distribution and compilation creation/costs (development of emulation, disk creation, etc.). Quite a cash cow in my opinion.

Sorry about the problematic link, dudes; the board filter is getting in the way. Try this.

Heads up, SEGA—when something of yours leaks, trying to suppress it will encourage others to try and spread it more. I suggest you stop while you have the chance, because I'm very tempted to make my own little news report on it totally out of spite. :)

Somebody needs to kick their PR team in the face. They're not paying attention. Releasing compilation after compilation after compilation makes them look desparate, and it makes it look like they're just after money and nothing else. I'm not one to believe they "don't care" about the Sonic franchise or anything like that, but I do think they're really shooting themselves in the foot here. My gosh, at least wait a few more years when the previous compilations have been somewhat forgotten.

I think I'll just play Sonic Jam - all things considered, that compilation still hasn't been topped in terms of quality (although it sure has in terms of quantity). :v:

Don't forget all that taxes, probably will costs near or over R$ 300,00 :v:

But I doubt this is a final price. It's a ridiculous price.

if it honestly is 20 years of Sonic on 1 BD Disc, I will GLADLY pay $99 for a collectors edition, $20 Mega Collection +, $20 Gems Collection, $20 Sonic Adventure, $20 Sonic Adventure 2, $20 Sonic Heroes, $10 Shadow, $5 2k6, $25 Unleashed... It'd be worth it. (Numbers are the value I place the games at not any real price)

He mentioned the board filter, so I assume that what happened is that the link got jeopardized somehow.

I have no idea, actually! I checked my email and I didn't receive anything, so I reckon SS would have received it if there was any sent.

As for the board filter, sets of two dashes (--) filter to emdashes (—), so that's why the link got messed up.

I would consider getting it if it weren't for the fact that it would retail at $99 if it actually included new game modes for the games I already own.

Of course, I guess I'd accept it having every single Sonic game up until now as well, if it meant that it would get a PC release and I'd have a PC version of, say, SA2, finally.

But let's crunch the numbers now for the curious. I'll use fairly conservative eBay estimates for some of these.

A pack of the Genesis titles in cart form, regardless of containing the original boxes and manuals will probably be about $20 or so, maybe more depending on inclusion of Mean Bean and Spinball. That price is also probably comparable to what XBLA or the Virtual console, as it comes out to roughly $5 a game, which I believe is what they go for on there, and then there are issues like console lock-in and whatnot.
    Sonic CD: $10
    Chaotix: $25 AT LEAST
    Sonic R, PC version: $3
Sonic 3D, Saturn version (since it's probably the best version of that one): $5
Sonic Adventure DX PC, which includes all the game gear titles: $10
Sonic Adventure 2 (GC version): $15
Sonic Heroes: I'm going to go with the price I paid for the PC version, which was $2.50, assuming it would be included in this.

And this doesn't even touch on Sonic the Fighters -- it can be got via Gems collection, which is pretty much it. That'll be about another $10 or so. I'd really like to have the version of Sonic R released in this set include additive lighting effects like in the Saturn and PC DirectDraw modes, though, so I'm going to include that in here either way. It would completely cover the cost of a proper copy of Sonic CD though.

The last few are more likely to be in more-or-less complete sets with box and manual, though.

Now, it's important to keep in mind that collections like these are made more for people who have relatively limited exposure to Sonic -- pretty much everyone knows that the fans already have these games and may own them in a few different forms, too. For someone who doesn't own any of these titles, the cost to them will, in fact, be right around $90-100. People who only have SADX and onward would pay $60-65 or so for the collection. Those who have the Genesis titles and maybe a port of Sonic CD would pay also around $60 for some of the rarer titles.

I will assume that everyone reading this already has at least a decent computer, for which SADX . Then we'd still need something to play the other games on. Every other game had a GC/Wii release, so we'd be able to play everything else if we had a Wii to play it on. We'd also want a Saturn to play Sonic 3D on, since Saturn emulation is kinda iffy and hard to do without multi-cores, and the Saturn itself can be expensive or hard to find. That'd add even more into the cost, though it's something to keep in mind for someone who doesn't want an improper port or buggy emulation.

Now, will all these titles fit onto a single disc? Let's say we use a double-sided DVD, which we can assume pretty much everything should be compatible reading. We'll say that a 2-disc set is going to be the conservative 1.4 GB (since a single DVD will be at most 700 MB). This also happens to be the size of a GameCube game disc.

    Then we have
    Sonic R - 1 disc
    Sonic 3D - 1 disc
    Sonic Gems - 1 GCD
    SADX - 1 GCD
    SA2(B) - 1 GCD
    Sonic Heroes - 2 CD

The overhead of emulators and the genesis binaries is small enough to be negligible, unless we include more than just the Sonic titles.
We have to have the space for 10 CDs or about 5 GCDs, which is going to be about 7 GB then.

A single-side, dual-layer DVD is around 8.5 GB, so we can fit all of this and then some! Hey, there still hasn't been a release of SegaSonic Arcade, for one thing. I think that could easily fit in that extra space, as well as several less-celebrated Master System/Game Gear or Genesis titles. There's plenty of room for cool extras in there.

So my sticking points are mainly in regard to good Genesis sound emulation (match the damn output frequency of the thing properly, dammit), and getting the price at least a little lower to make it more appealing to people like me who already own a lot of these titles.

  12. Another Compilaton?!

The only way this would be worth it is if EVERY Sonic game ever released was on the same disc, along with PLENTY of extras.

To be honest, I'm getting sick of these compilations. The majority of the classic games have been released many times (SADX, SMC/+, Sonic Gems, Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection) etc though a few such as Chaotix haven't. Considering that I've not played Sonic Adventure 2 before, including games like that might be interesting but emulation would probably fuck up in some way (knowing SEGA).
There have been too many compilations and they're always the same, it's getting boring and it's nothing new, even adding a fucking HD filter does nothing. Sega need to realise this.

ANOTHER ONE? Seriously SEGA? SERIOUSLY? There is no way I'm forking over 99 dollars for this, absolutely ridiculous.

I'm sorry, I must have misread that. :psyduck:

    SEGA sent you a C&D?

This is the same SEGA that doesn't give a shit about the ten-fuffillion Sonic Ultra Megamix Cant Let This Go Ever hacks circulating around the internet that we're talking about, right?

Kinda out of character for them....

That might be a good thing though. :v:

If C&Ds are being sent about, something in here is quite blatantly true. Great job, Sega PR!

If there's any decent collector's value to come along with it, such as a figurine, nice boxart, cool extras, etc, I'd consider buying it. But there's no way I'd pay $99 for another lame compilation.

So far, no C&D proper from Sony...which is very strange given that if there's anybody that should be ticked right now, it's them.

Sega knows that they better send C&D to anybody they can before they get into trouble. Probably they already decided that Sega is the one making C&D letters.
