Blackout Basement Mode The screen blanks out every so often. Hold Right To Win Sonic automatically moves forward, with the player only given control of jumping/rolling. Sonic changes direction upon hitting a wall.
Not sure if AI Tails is going to be a thing, but a "Don't Let Tails Die" escort mission would be a true challenge. :v:
I remember those being a thing in "Sonic 3: The Challenges" or something, I forget the exact name, where you had to not let something happen to make Tails need to come back (him dying or falling too far behind).
Make the entire stage underwater, and replace all of the monitors with either air bubbles, or monitors that act as a single-use air bubble. Set up the camera so that you have single-direction ratchet-scrolling like in the first Super Mario Bros. Or, you could set up an auto-scrolling version of the level. Incorporate bits of vertical auto-scrolling so the camera is zig-zagging, and make it like Castlevania, where the bottom of the screen is instant-death regardless of what's below.
I like this idea. How about a vertical Mirror Mode, where you have to complete the level upside-down?
"No rings" (either no rings in the level, or have the player forced not to collect rings, or give them a set score, example 100 000 points, and each time they grab a ring it removes points off the score, and the player loses a life if it reaches zero.)
Or maybe have a bar that depletes every time you move. This makes your every step count. Special rings may increase this counter?
I've been trying to keep mos of this under wraps, but since its nearing completion I need some options on art direction. Refit of the water level, thoughts?
I like the shading going on the foreground tiles! That background looks awesome too! Looks quite nice so far.
It's beautiful. Amazing. I want this. I will print this and hang it on the wall. No but seriously, holy shit. You did a great job.
I looks like what appears to be a composite of Labyrinth, Tidal Tempest and Hydro City. Very amazing visuals. The buildings in the background are very gret designs as well. Including the windmill.
the layer of jagged rocks in the background looks extremely inconsistent with the buildings because rocks are lower detailed than buildings despite the fact that they are in front of them.
Absolutely beautiful! Even if Sonic Classic 2 makes it after Sonic Mania, I will play this, rest assured
I feel like it's a little jarring for the buildings to be a single uniform orange color while also having deep blue domes. Throw in some very subtle color variation among the trimmings (i.e. grays, blues, maybe yellows) and I think you're good to go with the background.
Thanks for the feedback. I have some ideas for some improvements given what you guys have said. Ill try adding more color to the background and maybe more detail to the jaged rocks. The bubble shield is animated, it jiggles a bit so that might explain it being off a bit /> EDIT: Oh, and someone mentioned a LONG time ago about the final boss being in space....don't worry, he isn't
The water level design looks absolutely fantastic. Inspired art direction. Amazing to finally see an update! Keep them coming.
