Part of why Javelosa gave us 2+ hours of Sega history was that I spent the first 30 minutes asking about Javelosa himself

 

Yeah i'd love to learn more about the conception of Ristar past the "remnents of Sonic's conception got reused" stuff.

There's probably a good deal of concept art floating around to dig into.

 

Off-topic, but yes, Ristar’s awesome. Is there anything on the planned sequel, or was absolutely nothing made for it?

 

From Ristar designer Akira Nishino in a 2006 interview:
"Will Ristar come back? Probably not. Of course, as a game developer, I would love to see it happen. At the time of the original, I was thinking of a sequel. It got as far as a character design for that sequel, but it didn't happen for various reasons."

 

Ristar shares very, very few credits with anybody who worked on the 16-bit sonic games or was part of Sonic Team prior to NiGHTS into Dreams save a few musicians so questions about Ristar shouldn't really be directed at old-school Sonic developers.
