What's with the future sign using SCD sprites for the base and new graphics for the top? Not in gameplay, just the little bit at the end.

I really don't think there will be a PC version because SEGA didn't say anything about it. It's just a repeat of Sonic Generations.

I've noticed this since I first saw the trailer. The trailer cuts to the Sonic CD logo right before Sonic goes past the sign. Note that in the first trailer had Sonic 4 Episode 1 Sonic going past a past sign after which he turned into Sonic CD Sonic:

So looks like it's supposed to tease Sonic 4 Episode 2.

FINALLLLYYYYY. Good god that took long enough.

Damn, $5? I expected 10. I'm triple dipping this game, I must show my support. And honestly, no, I don't want to wait a week for it to come out on the PS3 in the US. I'll be getting both the 360 and iphone versions tomorrow ASAP.

Thanks for the assurance! Really glad to know it hasn't been cancelled, been massively psyched about this since the initial announcement! I'm cool with waiting a little longer though - Sega did the same thing with Generations. Congrats on finishing this awesome project!

Not to mention, Sonic's lost several shades from his palette.

I'd go chalk this up in the "ignore" category, since it has nothing to do with the game.

And yeah, there's definitely a Steam entry for the game, so there you have it.

Note that by "retail" they probably mean digital retail, so places like Greenman Gaming et al, not physical store retail. As much as that would be nice.

This link should eventually work, although as of writing, it will just redirect to the main Steam page. Unless they arbitrarily change the app number of the game before adding this "bundle" to the store...

Most likely, it just seems rather silly of them.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I can only hope all the other old Sonic games get this treatment—maybe even Sonic 3D Blast.

Though more importantly, I have to wonder what this means for Sonic 4 Episode 2.

Can you go into detail about this. I've seen you guys talk about this SNCBNK and I wasn't around much when the SCD betas were released.

    VVV *ahem* VVV

The end of the trailer is an obvious tease for Sonic 4 Episode 2. How shameless of you, SEGA.

I will definitely be buying Sonic CD tomorrow or whenever it comes out in North America though.

Why do I love SEGA? Because they show people from the US how does it feel to usually have things late (or not as good) because you live in the EU :specialed:

That said, just 5$?! I expected twice that, so going to buy it!

Long story short; Past music is essentially SMPS with samples, and these are held in "SNCBNK__" files (where __ is the round number and timezone letter). In the betas (I forget if they're in the final off the top of my head), there are "SNCBNK__" files for all timezones, not just the Past. These files contained what seemed like 1 or 2 bars of the CD audio music, or similar, in order to be used as a loop join. Getting them to work on actual hardware, where it plays the music, at the end it stops and plays the loop, then seeks back and starts again seamlessly was probably not possible for them to do, or at least they never worked it out. In the trailer, one of these loop joiner sections is clearly heard.

tl;dr - Sonic CD beta has music loop joiner sections that went unused, Taxman used them in this to loop the music properly.

I'm more interested in the songs that have loop joiner bits that sound nothing like, or at least earlier versions of, the song they're supposedly loop joining. Did Taxman make all-new ones, alter them at all, or just plain use them as they were.

AWESOME. = D Will be getting this on Xbox Live when it comes out, no question - and for PC when that version's released. Supporting the hell out of this in hope of similar remakes in future. = )

Loving the examples of graphical tweaks in the trailer, such as the addition of proper transparencies for the shield/invincibility/time-travel effects, the searchlights in Stardust Speedway, the re-instatement of the extra foreground ripple in Tidal Tempest's underwater sections, the Sonic 2-styled dust effects for Spin Dash and braking when in Sonic-2-stlyle mode, the smoother Chaotix-styled ring animations... and of course, Tails! (Am I the only one secretly hoping for Knuckles as a DLC add-on down the line? = P Haha.)

Talking of which - Taxman, are you allowed to reveal what's been done in the way of Special Stage graphics for Tails? Has an entirely new set of graphics been drawn mimicking the SCD style, or was some other solution implemented? I'm really interested to know... though if nothing else, I'll find out soon enough now that the game's out tomorrow. = D

This looks like an incredibly faithful remake and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Taxman, I've followed your work for nearly a decade in my time in the community - through what you've publically released over the years, I've watched its' evolution from Sonic fangame Retro Sonic to the multi-purpose Retro Engine that powers this remake today. I can't imagine how awesome it must feel to get to work on something like this - being able to faithfully remake and then add to such a beloved classic, in an official capacity, with your name in lights in the startup sequence! The positive reaction here alone should be enough to tell you you're making a lot of people happy with this - you should feel damn proud of your work. = ) Many congratulations, man!
