I think Cinossu was just having a little fun, like if you click the retro logo you get an Emerald Hunting mini game and a little while ago it'd do some jpeg slowly zooming in and turning red with music. At least it's just this thread and not the entire forum.
That actually sounds nicer than I would have expected. It doesn't stand out too much, but I'd definitely listen to it if I had it.
That's funny, I was going to bring that up, but then I remembered how that ended. To be fair, I did enjoy the five months of excitement we had before Sonic 4 was revealed.
I love being cynical and disinterested as this kind of shit makes for good entertainment when I pop in to check on things I had only preliminary knowledge of. I wasn't following this game or the show at all, I liked the character designs minus the tape and minus Knux's steroid abuse. Turns out the game is an irredeemably broken mess, class act, everyone involved! It is a shame though, games need time to be developed and publishers don't seem to get that. At least I have some silly bug videos/bad voice acting to laugh at. I am curious, how invested is anyone in any new official Sonic content these days anyway? I lost almost all interest when Shadow's game came out. I don't even think the mainstream has that much exposure to Sonic at all, let alone the current material. At this point, I'm more interested in what the fans can do to expand and change the old games.
Colours and Generations were huge steps forward, with Generations being the best Sonic game since the Advance games/Heroes. Instead of going forward from Generations though, we've seen less blockbuster titles and more small games with tacked on mini-games with more 'style' than substance. I actually did like Lost World, as hellishly unfairly difficult it was, but again it didn't feel like the game was tested by people who play games as gamers, just people who want to get the product shipped. There's less of a buzz about Sonic and that's probably because SEGA/Sonic Team don't consistently give fans any idea about where the series and games are headed. It's hard to be excited about the games at all when you have no idea what to expect, and when the most recent titles haven't been as great as you'd have liked. There's been a slew of loose ends, like what about the characters introduced that we never see again? Omega? Rouge? Cream? Team Chaotix? What about the whole Blaze/Silver from the future reveal that they so obviously set up in Sonic 2006, Rush and Rivals which they've never resolved and completely fucked fans over with? We don't know if we'll ever see Classic Sonic again. We don't know what's happened to Sonic 4 which ended on a cliffhanger. We don't even know if Lost World has set the precedent for the next game or not. We don't know when the next game is even going to be. We don't know if we're getting the remastered games on the big screen, or about Sonic 3 & Knuckles for that matter. We don't know squat, and it's really taking it's toll. It's hard to be excited at all.
I'm more invested in how official Sonic content affects his image. I really want to be to proud to be a Sonic fan again, but that just won't happen unless Sega stops releasing these mediocre to terrible games. I really want to talk about Sonic games again without the quality of the games being the focal point. I want to be invested in the characters and universe again, but that can't happen as long as Sega uses age demographics as an excuse to keep producing mediocrity. I don't know, I don't think I can keep doing this anymore. I know how much of a drama queen I'm going to sound, but this is physically and emotionally affecting my health. I just can't keep hoping Sonic's image will improve so my fandom can no longer be some badge of shame. My interests are an important part of my identity. The longer I focus on this, the more upset I become. I could just focus on Mega Man and Kirby since I'm a part of those fandoms, but those IPs have nothing going for them right now. I couldn't care less for Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Minecraft, or any of those popular franchises. Not that I have anything against them, they just don't captivate me the way Sonic use to. I could create a separate thread for my feelings on all of this, but I don't know if Retro is the appropriate place. I should just take a break, collect my thoughts and come back when I have a concrete plan to accentuate the positives of the Sonic franchise. That way I can help other people, Sega included, understand what made Sonic good so all of this negativity can gradually die down.
By the way, am I the only one who doesn't mind Sticks? She's a paranoid conspiracy theorist weirdo and I don't find her particularly annoying. I don't even mind the character redesigns for any of the characters (except for the superfluous sports tape, which I notice Sticks doesn't wear for some reason), and Sonic could do without the neckerchief. I kind of like the new look for Sonic's quills and even Knuckles' weird body type is alright. The cartoon? It's not mind-blowing, but who expected it to be? But for something designed for young kids, I think it's pretty solid and I'm even enjoying it myself at 30-something. I imagine your average 10-year-old will really dig this. The games?... I think it's a shame that kids who are into Sonic will be subjected to something that bad. Or that kids who like the cartoon might end up playing Rise of Lyric. The games are pretty suck. Just remember that these are alternate-universe things, supposedly. And we haven't exactly come to expect "quality" from Sonic games anymore. But we live for the past games anyway, so it's not really a big deal anyway.
I don't think anybody is angry at the Sonic Boom universe coexisting with other Sonics and, also, most of us are okay with the cartoon...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a755P_tEEt4 I had the 45 minutes it took to make this to realize it was a bad idea, but I didn't listen
I was gonna do it, but WalrusGuy beat me to it.
You just made me realize that the lyrics to that final episode ED mondegreen into "Where's your messiah?" It sounds perfect for this.
Wow. I was not expecting greatness here. Not in the slightest. I wasn't expecting a complete clusterfuck either. What the bloody hell happened? Really? What is this garbage of a game that I am looking at? I am tired of this inconsistency. For the past four years, I've had to sit here and go "I hope the net game in the franchise isnt going to be garbage". 2010: Colors - Good. Sonic "4"- Abomination. 2011: Generations - Pure greatness. 2012: Sonic "4" Episode 2: Why in the hell did I ave high hopes for this when this was announced? Stop with the roller coaster. I don't like them in real life. I don't like them metaphorically. This game could have been at the most, decent. Yes, we didn't have our good combination of Boost/3D platforming of Generations or the good 'ol Adventure days style gameplay. We get a gameplay based of off a series I never heard of/played with automated speed sections to say "HEY LOOK! FASSSTTTT!". We have graphics that look like this was for the PS2. This is the CryEngine 3 we're talking about. This game loked better at E3. SO much better. How in the flying fuck did it turn into this atrocity? How did this get past Q & A? Who sat don and went "Ok, I approve of this". I am tired of companies not giving a shit about the quality of their product but go "WE NEEDZ THE PROFITZ! :specialed:/> " I discovered this series after the debacle that was '06. I love going around and reading the opinions that people have about their disdain for the game, I never played it, but I share the same opinions as them. I do not, however, share the same emotional hate that everyone else ha for this game because I wasn't here for the hype and then the collapse. I am experiencing that with this game, and that is a serious problem. It is also a problem when 06 gets higher reviews than this game. Normally, I don't take an abomination as this personally. This franchise changed me as a person. I would not be the avid gamer that I am today without the Hedgehog. Sonic the Hedgehog was the start. Seeing this collapse into the cluster fucks upsets and angers me so much. I will reiterate what I have said above again: I am tired of companies not giving a shit about the quality of their product but go "WE NEEDZ THE PROFITZ! :specialed:/> " If it wasn't for the consumer, you wouldn't be here, so stop not giving a flying fuck about what the consumer wants. At least the show is great.
So TSSZ says that Chris Senn talked about his role with RoL. we got 2 things that happened now: there was massive layoffs and the Cryengine fucked everyone over. Oh and there may not be enough staff at BRB to even make a patch for this game.
They really should have dropped CryEngine support the second it got announced as Wii U only. I don't see why they couldn't have just stuck with something like Havok again. But again, I don't think this would have fixed up much of anything other than maybe keep the framerate stable.
I think everybody's done talking about the game, for the most part. At least until there are more details on what happened. I'll probably be lurking the topic for everybody's impressions of the show, and I like what I'm seeing so far. Assassin's Creed Unity is going to be getting that treatment, so I enjoyed a good laugh while everyone was reacting to its launch. As bad as that was, everybody will forget about it eventually, once the patches start rolling in. Licensed games are usually forgettable, but not always marred with blatant technical issues, so it's going to be a shame if Big Red Button don't have enough staff to patch it. What did they spend that $35 million on, ice cream sundaes and Olive Garden? It's hard for someone far away from the AAA side of the industry like me to figure out. EDIT : A typo and a broken quote box, derp.
