The only big problem was due to a possible glitch you can just endlessly hammer ZERO in his boss fight till you win which kinda ruins the strategy element (which is admitedly pretty good). I admit having him harrass you throughout the story made his boss showdown rather climatic and satisfying (similar to Knux in S3+K, albeit without the ridiculously dumbed down AI).

I personally thought Amy had the most unique puzzles and obstacles put into them most of the time.

Use an Action Replay for a turbo run and you've solved most of Amy's gameplay problems. Some extra levels would have been nice though, seriously, three levels?

Doesn't Big also climb ladders in a speedy fashion. These little perks and low points might have worked well if they weren't for such obscure obstacles you'll likely use all of 2 or 3 times in the overall game.

Through hacking into other levels Amy's light mechanics have different effects though, she floats ridiculously high in wind mechanics for example, while Gamma can use his hover to extend his bounce height from fans or spring bumpers.

I still enjoy Adventure, though some of the loose gameplay irks me. However, it's still more fun than Adventure 2 all things considering, loose or not. Upgrades is probably the only thing I liked more in SA2 though (I don't care for Chao). I liked Sonic's gameplay the best, then all the others in no particular order (Tails could have been better implemented, Amy could run a bit faster when on inclines), and long last Big. I don't dislike Big's fishing levels though, they're just there.

That's funny. I don't remember this being in Donkey Kong or Pitfall either, and they pretty much defined platformers.

I honestly don't see the hate in Gamma's gameplay. Its basically if you took Sonic gameplay and added an arcade-ish shooting system to it. Yes, there's no jump attack nor is there rolling or a Spindash, but you still gain momentum and he still mostly controls like a Sonic character (being that he can still traverse slopes and ramps and stuff).

Gamma's levels were fun. Something about them just clicked.
Movement wasn't a problem, and Gamma's stages were better designed than Tails/Eggman stages in SA2.

I hated Knuckles [never liked the hunting, just seemed tedious] and Big's levels [for obvious reasons], but apart from that, everyone else was fun to play as [sans the glitchiness of the game, for example, falling through solid surfaces in Speed Highway], even Amy.

I loved Sonic levels. In fact, I truly wish movement was done as well in SA1/2 for every Sonic game. Homing attack was fluid, you didn't have to drift or any of that nonsense like in Colors, etc. And the level design isn't as bad as everyone seems to make of it [sans the linearity of it, it's a lot better than Heroes, or the 3D portions of Colors].

  6. I don't recall Pitfall having any attacks.

And Donkey Kong Country is just one game. I'm not saying that no other game has practiced this, I'm saying it's pretty much standard fare, especially in the Sonic series.

    And...?

Donkey Kong != Donkey Kong Country.

  8. My point still remains.

I expect jumps to hurt enemies in a Sonic game.

Spin jumps hurt enemies in a Sonic game, and the game's animations make it pretty clear Amy's not jumping the same way Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are. Amy's vulnerability in Sonic Adventure is given the same visual cue that the characters in the Genesis games have after getting launched off a spring. Essentially, if you're not in a ball, watch where you land.

  11. You know what? I'm listening through the soundtrack right now and these tunes are just amazing. I want to play through Sonic Adventure while hooked up to my banging sound system now.

It's listening to the soundtrack that always prompts me to play SA again. I stop when I beat Sonic's story though.

Heh, knowing me I'd end up playing it to the end, or at least until the end of Gamma's story. Just to hear that wonderful ending theme he has.

Dammit Theme Of E-102/Unbound is powerful. It proves they could have put more character and mood into instrumentation than just singing about the characters in themes (Big and Amy's themes at least do both, Sonic and Tails' sound too much like generic rock anthems however).
