I assume the future "episodes" will have something akin to Lock-On, right?
And I hope they add Knuckles.

People keep assuming there will be some sort of lock-on, though I don't buy it for a second.

Mostly because Dimps and Sega have clearly shown themselves to have very little interest in making S4 good, but also because there's no sekrit routes in S4 Ep1 for new characters to use.

I hope so. No official word on it as of yet. Ken Balough said on the SEGA forums somewhere something like "you'll just have to wait and see!", which isn't really a hint to much. Who knows, maybe RubyEclipse will reveal that Episode I will be locking on to Episode II, along with a message from Ken stating "This is truly lock-on technology as you imagined it."

If they add Knuckles as a playable character, I hope they don't copy over his lower jump from the Mega Drive games. That's the one thing that puts me off playing as Knuckles in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I find it actually quite irritating after playing Sonic and Tails with better jump heights. Just a very minor nitpick of mine I guess....

There were no sekrit routes in S2 for Knuckles to use.
Didn't stop them from adding 3 ups in Chemical Plant Act 1 when you lock it on.

Object placement is different from full on level editing, though. They weren't about to add walls that only Knuckles could break into Sonic 2.

Well wasn't that about the one shortcoming Knuckles had in the original games that prevented him from basically being 'Sonic with more abilities'? Seriously, Sonic 2 was a piece of cake until Death Egg Zone. The idea is that each character has both positive points and negative ones so as to make each of the roster interesting to play as. Granted Sonic's homing attack even things out a little more in Sonic 4 though.

I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
The lack of jump height was what kept him from taking certain routes that were exclusive to Sonic, if I recall. Frankly I only ever noticed his lack of jump height WHEN he encountered a Sonic path that was impassible to him.

It's not just jump height, mind—Knuckles also suffers a lower acceleration rate than Sonic does, although frankly the only time I was cognizant of that, it was when I was chasing the Mushroom Hill boss and blankly wondering why it takes Knuckles longer to close distance than it did for Sonic or Tails.

I actually kind of hope they keep these two shortcomings if they ever intend to bring Knuckles back into the fray The Way He Was Meant To Be, but only if the physics and "drag" feeling are dealt with at the same time. If Sonic feels off in Episode I, I don't want to imagine the feeling of drag that would accompany Knuckles's lack of jump-height, or his lesser acceleration, with bogus physics and zero inertia to complicate matters.

If they do bring back Knuckles, though, it makes me wonder about Sonic's amazing ability to break open walls with his face. Because that used to be, y'know, unique to Knuckles.

Now Knuckles can break through inexplicable metal walls with his face.

Heheheheheh. That would be the best worst idea ever for a new Knuckles ability. <_< The idea of him running through levels while smacking his face against metal walls would be hilarious.

Mind you, Knuckles still has the advantage of walls EXPLODING if he so much as taps them, so it's not like Sonic's completely ripped off his style.

If they attempt to give him a pointless melee attack, however, my rage will pierce the heavens.

Oh he'll have the whole shibang Solaris. Be ready to drill punch through loops in 2011.

Having a good melee ability would be awesomesauce. Having a simple "stand still and punch" button in a game where you are not only encouraged to keep moving, but suffer touch damage, would just be fucking stupid.

I bring up the possibility because they seem to think lately that just because Knuckles is Knuckles, he needs to have a punch button in there somewhere. I disagree.

Maybe the only way for Knuckles to destroy a badnik will be to walk/run in to them with his, well, knuckles. Jumping or rolling will result in insta-death.

Putting Knuckles in future episodes makes me question Sonic's homing attack that much more though.

Really, in a game where the main playing format is so Sonic oriented, having a melee attack is kinda pointless. I can't think of a single melee attack Knuckles could do while moving that can't be replaced with a jumping or rolling.

But then all we'll hear is BAAWW KNUCKLES MAKES IT JUST LIKE RUSH NAO. Plus, Sonic still can't climb up walls.

I'm considering buying this for my iPod, so I'm posting here first to allow for any potential "Don't do it" heads-ups I might get from you guys.

I've had it for 360 for a while now and I enjoyed it, and I'd like to have something to play during all my spare time in school, but everyone seems to be saying the controls are terrible. I also kinda want to try oit the minecart and pinball levels and the tilt control special stages. I'm just not really sure if all that I just mentioned is worh another 10 dollars.

In the Advance games, I liked how the characters had a button for attacking. However, for the sake of making this feel like a true sequel to S3&K, adding that ability might not be the greatest idea but it's not like the game feels like a true sequel anyways. >_>

+1 for “Keep the differences”. I like how they made his gameplay different (mainly by limiting route choice)—and as said, if he had the same jump height and acceleration, why bother to play as Sonic (or Tails, unless you're Volpino ;))?

Well, Sonic has the homing attack, and Tails can fly. Different gameplay there.

Although, I do agree with keeping the lower jump. It makes sense that something that can climb walls has no real need to be able to jump high.

Yeah, I tend to forget that Tails's flight can enable him to take entirely different routes. The only example I can think of is Marble Garden Zone, but I'm sure there are others [goes to Zone: 0]
