    Dark is not bad. :P I think Ice Cap 2 looks cooler with the dark palette, truth be told. The source for the ice "trees" in the hack is from that picture, too, and I think it's an interesting idea. Although I will agree that given the dark palette, and given DNX's proposal to name the zone "Winter Paradise", there's a bit of clashing there. But I think I'd vouch for a different zone name and keep the palette rather than making every act of the zone bright as can be.

    Remember that I'm going off screenshots, too... I don't have that art in my possession, but I think the screenshots are pretty representative of the finished product.

    Brief update here, because why not?
    • Hill Top's art is pretty much finished and has been dubbed Frosty Peak because our other ideas for names didn't fit into the allocated VRAM space. DNXDelta is working on minor changes to Chemical Plant.
    • New layouts so far for this release are Cascade Valley 2 (old act 2 is now act 3), Casino Night 1 (old act is now act 2), and Hill Top 2, at the expense of the removal of Cascade Speedway, for 16 more missions than the previous release.
    • The non-Sonic-4 mode won't be in this release because I have too little time before the contest to test every level twice as often. I figure these sentiments will blow over by the next release anyway. >_>
    • Whereas you needed 30 of 43 missions completed last year to finish the game (not counting 7 from the last level, for a round 50), this year will only require 18 of 59 (also not counting those 7), assuming I don't get any more layouts done. This should curb complaints about the difficulty.
    • I've hit up one of those free webpage sites and made a mini-site to use as a SAGE booth. I've sent an e-mail to [email protected] but haven't got any confirmation or anything, so I'm not sure if that means everything's fine or if my cheap web site isn't worth it. :P I'll assume the former because I like to think that DNX and I are awesome. :o
    I want to get at least one more layout done, though. SAGE viewers might think "holy shit a game that's not one zone long", but you guys probably see that I haven't designed too much since last year. Thing is, when I look at the level select and see what's left to design, I groan and then go do something more fun, so we'll see if any work actually gets done.

    Nice. I look forward to playing it when it's ready.

    I'm lovin the name Frosty Peak Zone. It is very fitting. I've seen your latest pic of FPZ and my only gripe is the seesaw you use is from HTZ. I feel it would be better if it was more in the style of the one from SLZ. FPZ is looking so unique that I hope in time it will have different badniks and later have no more artwork leftover from HTZ.

    I hope one day you will also put in that ARZ/LZ/HCZ mashup level one day, maybe for next year.

    Cool, I will look forward to play Retro Remix once it's ready.

    Also, Frosty Peak Zone does sound like a good zone name. Back when my HTZ was a snowy hill-type level, I thought up of the name of Icy Hill Zone, but I scraped my old HTZ in favor for a new one that you now see as of last year's hacking contest, and the art of FPZ does look really beautiful.

    Overall, I am really excited to see the recent changes done to Retro Remix, keep it up, Thorn!

    I've been following this since the beginning, and what I'm seeing now is really impressive. I think I got to practice doing missions since I'm not exactly that good at them though. Just a small curious thought, but since you changed Emerald Hill and Hill Top's names, are you ever changing Chemcial Plant and Metropolis Zone's names? Also, just wondering, but do you have any plans to like, give every Zone a makeover (excluding the Beta zones as far as I know), or is it just the ones we know now?

    I already have concepts for CNZ's art design but I won't be starting that until I'm done with FPZ. As for CPZ, I already started on it with a theme that I'm sure you all would enjoy. However, I have doubts of getting something for it done by the deadlines. (The tubes are a pain in the ass) :colbert: Metropolis would most likely be one of the last priorities to work as I have other plans in mind.

    Did I pop in here and say how epic this is yet? No? OK.

    It's epic.


    Anyway, this seems kinda difficult to figure out what the heck the goals are, but then again SM64 was like that. I love it because of it.

    Now, if only I could find my R4 and/or Genesis4iphone didn't suck. As it is, I'm confined to my Mac. No on-the-go retro remix :(

    There are emulators on the Mac you know. Kega Fusion has a Mac port, Intel only though.

    I honestly think the banner's color is fine the way it is, but I will agree with Tidbit insofaras I think it would look better if you made it slightly more vivid and slightly darker, because I can't help but feel it looks a little off. Though as I said, it looks acceptable right now, and it's only that dull, light lavender color to which I refering, for the rest of the title screen looks fairly spot-on.

    Maybe just mix the colors up a bit more. Make the 2 red, the banner gold, and the outer edge of the ring blue instead of yellow (and perhaps add the Sega on the bottom of the emblem like in Sonic 1, it seems empty without something there)

    I love the logo itself "SONIC 2" in that shiny texture, it really gives it an awesome feel, but the banner under it is a little pale for a title screen, most title screens attempt to grab the attention of the audience. Give it more contrast and colour, and you've got my vote.

    As always, nice work =)

    Nice. Though the S could be better by lowering it at the same level as the number 2. Me personally am not keen on the banner colour. But if that's you final edit on it then that's cool.

    Agreed it's alot better. Not to sound that I'm nit picking. But the colour of the trim on the wings seem odd against a sun set background.
