On a more serious note, what does this mean? Like some kinda combo between Extended Edition and Megamix? However if that's the case you may have to go back to the drawing board for the name. It's awful ("Mega Edition Extended mix" does not roll off the tongue very well).

Does this means your taking the Extended file select thing from there? Or are you going to do a SA3 set up?
What is being taken from the Extended to be put in this.
Is there anything that's going to be dropped from Megamix for Extended.
Will this actually FIT on a catridge and still be playable on an actual Genesis? (That is if the Megamix Prior was playable in real time)
Is there going to be a title change?

Sounds pretty sweet. I'm not sure if you guys are open to tweaking the name but if you are maybe Sonic Extended Mega Mix or just Sonic Extended Mix. I look forward to seeing what these two great hacks will be like combine.

 

So does this only affect the original Sonic 1 levels? I was thinking that those would probably need to be removed from the main Megamix if you want to add much more. am I rite?

But yeah, I laughed too. I was also astonished, and confused... but I assume this doesn't mean a merge? Yeah, it's what people think, but your post makes it seem to have a lot more to it than that. Although Mega Edition Extended Mix isn't easy to say, I suppose it makes a lot of sense. But "Sonic 1 Extended Megamix" sounds better, in my opinion, even though I thought of it.

Right, so I decided to download and try this hack today finally (wasn't around when it was released, so I did it now). Being skeptical and thinking it was probably just another simple level hack, boy, was I wrong.

First thing I noticed was the new start screen with options, after playing around with these "especially the Preferences" section, I knew quick this wasn't your typical Sonic hack. Impressed with this and the selection of modes and characters, I decided to start a game as Shadow. I started out the game running collected some rings, and hit the A button not knowing it activated Shadow's boost mode ability. Whoa, I went off like a bat out of hell. As I played the first 3 levels of Sunny Shores Zone, I saw how hard this game was going to be gameplay wise. Playing on and several lives later, I made it to the final fight, oh boy, I knew I was in for trouble when I saw how that was set up. Lost 2 more lives before finally (and barely) being able to beat Eggman, ending the game without the chaos emeralds (I tried, they were too hard to get. =P).

Overall, I wouldn't even consider this game a hack. It's far beyond what a hack is, not to mention how well programmed it is. This is a fan game. Dark Fortress Zone is without a shadow (no pun intended) of a doubt, the hardest level I've ever played in any Sonic game. The art for Misty Maze Zone is the most beautiful I've ever seen in a Sonic game.

After playing most of the hacks and fan games out there, I'm proud to say this is the best one yet. Kudos to Tweaker and the rest of Team Megamix for making my day. It really takes the Genesis to it's limits, especially in emulators that emulate the sprite limit. =)

 

I must say that looks immensely better than the old Dark Fortress Zone. Personally I detested the old one, and hated playing it. Awesome job to all of those involved.

 

Wow you guys are fantastic for making Marble Zone fast. Bravo on that one. Massive improvement.

Also great job on the new underground background. This is shaping up to be truly awesome.
